make volume of startup sound always low
Written by maltepalte the 3 Oct 08 at 04:44. Global category: Usability. New
I think the volume of the startup sound should be on a fixed 25% of the total volume or so.

Reason being I often times bring my laptop to bed after my wife is asleep, and the welcome tune wakes her up because the volume is on max. I try to always plug my headphones in to avoid this, but sometimes I forget, and then I get it in the neck for waking her up!

In fact I'm gonna disable that welcome sound now, but I still think forcing it to a low volume would be a nice touch!

Solution #2: Make the startup sound a choice after the first boot-up
Written by pepperpupper the 11 Apr 09 at 14:19.
Is it nice to have a startup sound that is not configurable and that people are not necessarily aware of? I think that the startup sound should be a choice, configurable after installing and after the first boot-up.

transmission keeps laptop from sleeping
Written by ways the 8 Jan 09 at 10:57. Related project: Transmission. Not an idea
transmission bittorrent client keeps pc from sleeping when downloading. i have some trouble with how this is done.

now:
- no sleep, no hibernate, even if you ask for it. problem with this is that people close their laptops and throw them in their backpacks without waiting to see if they successfully go to sleep.

wanted:
- keep pc from sleep/hibernate (timed sleep) except when lid is closed (user action)
