Use a mobile phone as a webcam + microphone

Use the video capabilities of mobile phones for video conversation with "VOIP" or IM clients (kopete, amsn, openwengo, ekiga, skype, ...).
You would then have a mobile webcam if you use the bluetooth channel :)
It's related to a broader issue: enhance the interoperability between mobile devices and linux.

In many cases, I can't configure my webcam or I have problems with the microphone. Now I can use my webcam but only with V4L2 and only 3 programas detect my webcam. It's a good idea can use my webcam in all programs as camorama.
Developer comments
That's pure driver issue in the first place. A big plus is to recommend UVC-based webcams to users, since it takes a lot of work off the shoulders of driver-developers. On the
integration-side proper support for v4l/v4l2 in webcam-related applications needs to be solidified. The ideal application to polish up is cheese of course.

Would be nice to see the pictures we want to send as attachments. Right know we can only choose the picture name.i.e. example.jpg. If we could see the picture icon would be great when choosing a few pics to join with our e-mail.
Thanx.

I use evolution, however when i need to look at a calendar i have to use sunbird. This is because evolution is basically stagnent, and does not support modifying web calendars hosted outside of the local server. i know there are a few work arounds for getting it to work, but i would really love to have a simple calendar program built into gnome/ubuntu(default) which links between the desktop clock (evolution calendar display) and a web based calendar, which supports bi-direction changes and updates.
I don't like having to open sunbird each time i need to change an alarm.

Ubuntu is built on the philosophy that every user should be part of the community. Many users help out in various ways, however very few start programming because of the traditional difficulties.
1) Many people just don't know where to begin. Create a developer resource website and a "Beginner Developer Package" as mentioned in idea #4354.
The website should mostly contain articles aimed at new developers. It can link to external resources (e.g. the KDE and GNOME developer websites) for more advanced information.
Both the website and the developer package should be maintained by the general Linux community. Although the project will not be distro specific, The Ubuntu community will benefit greatly by sponsoring the project.
2) Bring back Canonical Code Bounties to motivate new developers.
Integrate them with community bounties as mentioned in idea 1295.
3) Create a Ubuntu Design Rewards website. (Idea 2961.)
Most developers coding for OS X and Windows have never even heard of Ubuntu. Mac OS X in particular has a costant stream of neat new apps. We need to capture their attention and bring them to Linux by way of contests and prizes.
In particular, Canonical should focus on attracting high school and university students. Google has been sucessful in bringing students to open source by using prizes and monetary incentives (GSoC and GHOP). We need to be more welcoming and do the same.

Start investigating Google's Android Smartphone platform integration

Android is the open source smartphone platform being developed that most handset manufacturers (including sony ericson, nokia , HTC and LG) have already stated they will support.
A team should be created to start investigating how we want Android smartphones to interact with ubuntu (before any handsets are released).
This will allow feature requests to start to be filed in appropriate places, and full integration to be added before the first mobiles are released.
Whilst OSX has the iphone, windows has Windows mobile, we would have excellent support for Android, which will be used on pretty much every phone in the future (and it even runs on slow ones apparently).
Lets get things ready in advance

If viewing images in the gnome image viewer, you can view them as a slide show. It would be nice if you were able to pause at an image with a button or using the space button instead of having to leave full screen entirely.

Linux is 17 years old...and there's no online backup solution in the open-source world. A very well featured program is Acronis True Image, but the linux version is very buggy and unstable. Actually, the best solution to backup the partiton when the system is up is the LVM snapshot. But for a newbie it is too complex. Yes, it exists MondoRescue for this, but it works rarely and it is not so flexible...
