The Ubuntu Brainstorm site should protect the ideas submitted by users for the benefit of the entire Free/Open-Source community of now and the future. Many suggested ideas are novel, valuable and are the assets of the whole community.
Profit-driven companies could claim patents for ideas found in this site --as if their own-- and later block the Free/Open-Source community from implementing them freely.
In the sake of the protection of our most valuable asset: our ideas, I say the Ubuntu Brainstorm site should add some visible waiver that states that the poster of the idea releases it under a copyleft (OSI) license which specifies a perpetual and royalty-free patent agreement in favor of the Free/Open Source community.
I am aware that most ideas come from other popular operating systems and that such measure may be a contradiction in itself. However, that should not deter us from protecting our novel ideas.
We must take every pertinent precaution to protect our freedoms and of future generations.

Reduced iso file for wubi

If wubi is not started from the cd but downloaded from sourceforge, it downloads the iso file in order to install the system.
Here one could save a little bit of bandwidth, by giving it a different iso, that lacks videos, windows software and other stuff that wubi never uses.

Don't ship apps with mixed localizations

Apps that have some visible strings missing in the localization in one language should be shipped completely in English to avoid a mix of translated or untranslated strings.
Missing localizations look very unprofessional. Most end users don't know or care about the localization process but should have a convenient experience. That's why Ubuntu should take care of missing localizations and remove localizations that are not finished (or in a reasonable state) from the respective apps.

I think about:
- select application (his name)
- click "generate portable"
- we have a directory with portable application
and now is possible to copy to pendrive.

On my PC a have a seperate partition for /usr. I thought then I do not need to install all Packages and Programs if my Ubuntu needs to be reinstalled. But Ubuntu formats /usr automatically each time I install it. Please allow installion to run with a given /usr partion that I need not to reinstall all programs.

I'd very much love to be able to have a client (or server) put in a central place, such as my kitchen or hallway.
To that computer I'd connect a scanner and my main printer (or multifunction device) with full functionality over the network. Perhaps even CD and DVD burning could be remotely used here.

Although Ubuntu promotes respins, they are not integrated with the download-page.
Nor is there official brainstorming about possible respins.
We need a group of people responsible for defining market-segments (perhaps doing some research), suggesting alternative default applications and perhaps alternative themes.
You should be able to select these official respins on the ubuntu-download-page. Perhaps together with a ubuntu-live-dvd where you can select the flavour during installation?
When adding a user you should be able to select the respin and have not-current-installed software automatically installed. All software not part of that respin, should be unchecked from the menu by default for that user.
Typical usefull ubuntu respins:
Ubuntu-Kids (edubuntu)
Ubuntu-Senior (optimized for my grandma)
Ubuntu-Developer (optimized for developpers)
Ubuntu-Kiosk (optimized for kiosk usage)
Ubuntu-Office (optimized for office usage)
Ubuntu-Artist (media and art production)
Ubuntu-Science (for universities)
Ubuntu-Media (mythbuntu)
Ubuntu-Server (already exists)
Strict rule should be that they only setup different default packages and different /etc/skel (default user options)

It would be helpful both for developers and bug reporters/maintainers to improve the response time of launchpad. Especially bugs.launchpad.net .
It is frustrating sometimes to wait up to a minute to get a comment or bug posted, or end up with a timeout error.
