I miss to have a "basic" collection of nice looking folder icons to use in my Home folder: Downloads, Music, Images, Movies...

Ubuntu has emblems, which are not so bad, but in Hardy the emblems look all alike... Its an orange circle with the image in white... Which makes it impossible to differentiate one from another... Either go back to colorful emblems like gutsy or implement folder icons which I think should be done!

A LOT of work needs to be done in NM...

So far:

- Proper WPA/WPA2 Support

- Wireless Refresh option. (on top of the option list below the detected connections)

- "Repair" Connection (a la Windows) AND Disconnect Option in a MENU when you RIGHT CLICK current connection.

- Autodetection of password: Users don't have to say what kind of password they are entering (passphrase/HEX/ASCII..) and it automatically detects it like in other OSs.

- Possibility to connect without being asked the password.

- Proxy, SSH, VPN...

- Better Wifi configuration/management GUI

And so on...

- Adding "tags" and maybe a search "tag-cloud" function.

- Short description capability, to synthetize the idea. This would appear in the frontpage and contain only 200 words for example. (It would allow to go through more ideas and faster)

- Currently popular/Popular 24H/1Week...

And so on :)

Right now, when the forced check appears it says "esc to skip" then when you click so, it appears just "Skip"

This is kinda confusing, as one might think that it needs a confirmation... then pressing return, which takes you to a Console Screen and you end up like WTF!?!

I suggest to change the word that appears when you pres ESC to "Skipping..." until the skip process loads and ubuntu continues loading... This way you know whats going on exactly!!

Totem's design really sucks... The icon, the image showing when nothing's playing, not being able to minimize to tray...

I think totem (or an alternative) should become a simple resource-cheap do-it-all alternative to WMP in Windows (is not the best for anything, but it can do most of things)

At least when it comes to music, video, streaming... Looking nice, mini-player, integration with brasero and cd-ripping soft included in ubuntu...

Right now, when you hit a PDF link, the only options are to save it or to visualize it in a new window of Document Viewer.

I think it would be better to have the option to view it directly into firefox, as Acrobat does (at least in XP).

In my opinion is more useful and helps fast web browsing.

Suggest applications in open with... menu. Just like windows.

When I delete default browser and install firefox, I have to re-set firefox as default app otherwise the other programs will give me an error when I launch a site through them. This should be done by default, ubuntu should try to look for alternatives if it doenst find any program to do it.

Create a new way to handle "links" from webs that:

- Automatically add a repository to your sources file.
- Installs the program (erasing previous versions of it.
- Prompts you with a "enter password" GUI, but doesn't open terminal.

Why:
- No need to use terminal which annoys/draws back users.
- Would be able to easily update programs not waiting until the next release of Ubuntu (Transmission, Banshee...)
- Would reduce bandwidth load of official repositories.
- Wouldn't reduce effort to keep central repositories up-to-date (actually this process tends to be slow for non "flagship" programs)

e.g.:
1)I go to banshee download site
2)I click on the Ubuntu version button
3)It prompts me with a GUI to input user password, and tells me if im sure of the source im downloading from.
4)It adds automatically banshee repository, apt-get update, install, replaces old versions...
5)From now on my program depends of banshee's team development process and not ubuntu.

Right now, if you install optional system tools like "Ubuntu Tweak" it installs it under "System Tools" in the main applications menu.

I think thats not needed as this programs are not so commonly used. I think adding them directly into "Administration" (best option) or creating a new category into "System" would be much better and would look cleaner!

There is NO WAY of doing this actually and it really pisses me off and a lot of people.

In Windows doesnt happen, in MacOS doesnt happen. I know security is important, but is also user experience.

Ubuntu has longer booting times, which seem even longer since you cant go to piss and have internet when you come back.

Have you seen 2001: A Space Odyssey???? "IM SORRY... I CANT LET YOU DO THAT..." This is how I feel... If my computer gets screwed, its MY problem.

I think this should be enabled by default, because I bet 90% of users would get tired of writting the password every time! But if not, just create an easy way to do it!

I know paint is very basic, but most of the time we need to do basic things.

I think KolourPaint is a great program for making simple sketches or even resizing images and so on... I think it should be added by default to ubuntu!!

KolourPaint is supposed to be for KDE, but the Gnome alternative, GNU Paint sucks... at least graphically.

When you boot up open office, an orange-brownish splash scren pops up.

For those of us who hate this colors, it would be better to use a more neutral color like white and grey/black so when you change your theme doesnt look so bad.

Ubuntu fresh install should automatically login and connect to WIFI when you power up the computer without asking you for any passwords.

I know people are worried about security... But they should be able to turn pass request off if they dont care and they dont want to enter the pass every time.

I would suggest to autologin and autopass for only one account. Would make things much more confortable :)

It would be to save all the .Config folders for programs in a subfolder /HomeDirectory/UserConfig instead of directly in the home folder as a hidden file.

When navigating with Nautilus it shows hidden folders and when I want to have fast access to my Music folder for example ITS A PAIN IN THE ASS :D

One panel in the Ubuntu desktop is enough by default.

Firefox now has tabs, this has reduced A LOT the number of actual windows.

Having an extra panel reduces the space in websites, specially in widescreen laptops.

There is plenty of space in 1 panel to put everything... If you need to save some space, the LOGOUT button can go into the SYSTEM TAB.

Also the HELP button in the panel can go directly into the System tab.

Hi! I think Ubuntu should include a AWN-like taskbar by default in ubuntu.

Id say Canonical should talk with its original developer and take care of the project (or a fork) to optimize it for ubuntu.

Also increase the number of applets and make them work properly:

- Facebook Applet
- Digg applet doesnt work
- System Monitor
- A Previous/Play/Next buttons that work with our default player and not only banshee...

Ubuntu could optimize the boot time of it, make it look nicer, improve the crappier way it loads which is chunky...

This would make ubuntu look really neat, and differenciate it from the rest of linux distributions which are powerful but look shitty (besides mint, gos which are either based on ubuntu or worst)

This is my Desktop and this is how (somehow) I would like Ubuntu to look like (ALSO with better theme, but thats another story)

When you press the logut button, a panel with 7 options appears:

3 on top and 4 on the bottom.

I suggest to include on the top line a link to System Monitor.

The space is there and its another way to make it available easily.

When I was new to Ubuntu it irritated me A LOT when I accidentally moved to another workspace and didnt really know where all my windows went...

In my opinion this option is not needed BY MOST PEOPLE AT ALL... So I think it should be turned off by default and allow to turn it on as an option.
