Written by tomatz the 13 Mar 08 at 09:18. Category: Graphics. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Simple add avant-window-navigator to the repository (which it will be in 8.04) and when installing restricted drivers add an option to download and install awn.

Optimize this site for eeepc!
Written by tomatz the 2 Mar 08 at 22:49. Category: Brainstorm. Related to: Nothing/Others. Implemented
I have an eeepc running xubuntu+compiz-fusion. When browsing this great new site I notice that the comments on ideas on my 800x480 (tiny) screen go halfway down the next street (well about 4 inches to the r/h of the screen). I assume this is some kind of rendering problem (eg site not optimized for such a small screen) as it gives me no scrollbar at the bottom of the firefox window. Sort this out please as it does not convey the sense of interoperability that ubuntu prides itself on!

Force BBC to make their iplayer run on linux not just mac/m$
Written by tomatz the 9 Mar 08 at 14:06. Category: Internet & Networking. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
For those who dont know BBC iplayer is an online, ondemand tv service from the bbc. Currently they only provide 3 versions. A mac version, windows version and a streaming flash version (which is not fully functional compaired to the m$/mac clients). If we get enough votes maby they will port iplayer to ubuntu/linux.

Thanks

Tom

Ubuntu shipit should send out cd labels and sleeves.
Written by tomatz the 7 Mar 08 at 21:19. Category: Others. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Obviously due to cost shipit cant always send out free cds. Why not send out sticky cd labels and cd sleeves. This would cut costs and enable people to burn copys of ubuntu and hand them out looking professional.

Enable editing brainstorm "ideas" on a 3 minute timeout basis.
Written by tomatz the 3 Mar 08 at 16:11. Category: Internet & Networking. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Editing ideas after people have voted could cause (obvious) problems. Why not give people 3 minutes after initially submitting the post.

Add automated page fire creation (swap) to a usb flash drive.
Written by tomatz the 3 Mar 08 at 11:36. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Add automated page fire creation (r-click) option when a usb flash drive is mounted. This would be great for laptops (and desktops) low on physical memory (512MB or less) as usb flash seek time is only 2ms which makes it much faster than a traditional page file/swap partition. I have implemented this myself on my eeepc and it defiantly gives you a performance boost but its quite messy having to create "swapon" scripts and whatnot. This is already implemented in vista in the form of readyboost (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ReadyBoost)

Change default archive type to .zip when compressing a file (in file roller)
Written by tomatz the 10 Mar 08 at 20:43. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
In my opinion this would be a more cross platform solution and would also be less confusing to new users. Also it would be a good idea if archives could be opened in nautilus as a regular folder would be (the latter is a duplicate idea but i cant find the post). Personally I prefer the tar.bz2 format but I must admit most files i compress are in .zip format.

Terminal warnings for dangerous commands
Written by tomatz the 13 Mar 08 at 09:49. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Recently on the ubuntu forums (and elsewhere) people have been posting bad commands to maliciously damage peoples systems. There should be a warning in the terminal (which could be swiched off in the terminal settings) when these commands are enterd before the command is executed. e.g.

tomatz@Desktop:/usr/bin#rm -r .[^.]*
Bash SECURITY WARNING Do you really want to enter this command? It could damage your system! (Y/N)
n
tomatz@Desktop:/usr/bin#

I really believe this should be implemented as this is obviously a security flaw. Most viruses in windows require user execution to infect the system which makes this security flaw not much different.

Utunes: Itunes clone for ubuntu.
Written by tomatz the 5 Mar 08 at 11:22. Category: Multimedia. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Yeah we all know amarok already does this effectively (though sometimes buggy under gnome) and we also have gtk-pod which I personally dont like. I think we should have our own dedicated Ipod media player "Utunes" as so many people have I pods and want to use them just as they do on windows/mac. Recently novell did a survey of what linux users most wanted ported. Itunes came in the top ten.

Apple should have already ported Itunes to linux and that annoys me as they rip off konquror and call it safari but they cant even be bothered to support the ipod on linux!

Mark Shuttleworth
Written by tomatz the 3 Mar 08 at 09:17. Category: Others. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Add a "send Mark Shuttleworth on another trip to outer space" button to the ubuntu desktop. All this button will then do is open a paypal page in mozilla so you can donate your hard earned cash to send marky on another trip to space. At least this could be included in universe!
