Empty trash on log out

There should be an option to empty the trash on log out (and on shutdown and similar).
Now I must empty the trash manually. I know I could make a cron for auto deleting trashes, but that should be time based.

converting files automatically by changing extension

this would be a really nice feature
there are a lot of converters, but sometimes, we need only to change one file's extension, why bother with other apps then?
imagine:
you have a png file, you want a jpg file immediately - you just change its extension, and everything else is done in background
the same with
"doc" -> "odt" files,
"rmvb" -> "avi" files,
"pdf" -> "dvi" files,
"flac" -> "mp3"
"zip" -> "tar.gz"
and many many more
but sometimes, some action is needed - like when converting movies, there should be a dialog then with minimal information - just to choose codec in this case
this would be also very nice, if there is somehow an otion to leave original file
imagine - you dont have to open ooo just for converting odt to pdf :)
do you like it?

Move Firefox preferences to Tools menu

In Windows, the Firefox Preferences option is in the Tools menu. In Linux/Unix, it's in the Edit menu. It makes a lot more sense in Tools than it does in Edit, and moving it would help cross-platform familiarity.

To Include the plugin "IE Tab" in Firefox 3

Hi! I ask to include the plugin "IE Tab" in Firefox 3 in Ubuntu 8.10.
https://addons.mozilla.org/es-ES/firefox/addon/1419
Reason? IE is a bad web explorer, but our politicians do not know it. Why? because in my case, in Spain, the Public Administration ONLY work in Internet Explorer, when I want to watch my personal information in the University, I need IE, when I have to send information (form) by the website of the ministry of X (jod, culture, education, industry...), I need IE!!! oh my good!! WHY??? WTF!!! Firefox doesn't work well, o directly, doesn't work.
If we want that everybody (at less in Spain) install Ubuntu in their PC, and they can work well, we need this (a lot of people don't know that this plugin exist!!).

Playing music without logging into the system.

Ubuntu should be able to play music without logging into the system. I could leave my computer playing, without possibility to someone take it, and browse my documents etc. It could use much less energy, if available in laptops. It could be implemented as using one-selected-by-user application(such as AmaroK), which could be started in login window, with special restrictions, such as read-only collection etc.

Easy.
When you press the logut button, a panel with 7 options appears:
3 on top and 4 on the bottom.
I suggest to include on the top line a link to System Monitor.
The space is there and its another way to make it available easily.

When you rotate an image in gnome-eye, it should save it automatically like that

When I am browsing through my pictures (which I do a lot since I do photography and I am trying to switch to Ubuntu), I look at them throught the Gnome-eye, I often turn them. However, I just look on and I see later that they the rotation of the image haven't been saved. Every time I rotate the image I need to click File > Save or Ctrl+S.
I want this to be an option to save automatically, so I can move on with my work and don't get hassled with little things like this.
I would just love to see the view of Mark Shuttleworth become true in that ubuntu becomes an OS for multimedia people (photgraphy, film, audio etc.) as well.

Brainstorm: Users can mark their own ideas as 'revoked' to stop voting.
|

You should be able to mark any of your own ideas that currently have a zero or negative score as 'revoked' to close voting on that idea, and remove it from consideration. Being able to revoke your ideas will have at least three distinct benefits:
1) It would give users less ideas to vote on. Currently there's thousands of ideas. If we allow users to recall some of their ideas it would be a form of self-regulation, reducing the number of ideas eligible for voting, thereby helping us focus on the good ideas.
2) It would keep a user's score from plummeting indefinitely due to (possibly just one) bad ideas being submitted. Why should your score continue to tumble over the course of weeks and possibly months with people voting your bad idea down? If you concede it is a bad idea, you should be able to 'undo' your mistake.
3) Given the 'protection' afforded users in item 2 (above), users would not be afraid of submitting 'wild' or 'unconventional' ideas which might otherwise damage their overall score. Conventional brainstorming requires that ideas be received in a non-judgemental manner. - the purpose of which is to give people free range to fly any idea that they think might be worth considering. The community might benefit from some of these wilder, riskier ideas.
Maybe their should also be conditions on which ideas can be revoked. Maybe an idea can only be revoked within the first week of it's issue. Maybe only until it reaches a certain number of views or votes. Perhaps if an idea receives a certain number of up votes it cannot be revoked. Etc.
Revoked ideas can remain in the main listing, just with a special icon (similar to the lock icon for closed ideas) indicated it's revoked status. In your dashboard, any up / down votes that idea received will be removed from your score. Also, a new category 'revoked ideas' will list the total number of revoked ideas you have. Your revoked ideas will also remain listed under the 'my ideas' tab, with the aforementioned special icon.
Perhaps the process of revoking an idea will also give the user an opportunity to revise their original idea based on other user's comments.

I never use windows. But I would love to have a Synaptic or a Repository downloaderfor Windows. It should work exactly like it does on ubuntu. It should download the packages & dependencies & put them in a categorised folder.
This way all our poor friends who don't have an internet connection or have on working only on windows will be able to download packages for ubuntu easily.
