Question before X- restart

It is possible to press ctrl+alt+backspace by mistake. There should be a question asking "Are you sure you want to restart X?" before doing it I believe. I hate those sort of questions but sometimes they are necessary when there is the risk of loosing data!

There is wizard on Evolution's first start, that forces users to enter all email details. There should be option to create basic account without email, because some people want to use just calendar and contact functionality.

Create an Ubuntu social networking site ala Facebook & MySpace

It would be a great asset to have a place for Ubuntu afficionados to meet and greet. Kind of a niche MySpace to facilitate the spread of contacts between people with a strong common interest.
The ability to update a profile, contact others, post error messages for community help, share relevant information etc. would be a boon to end users as well as to the marketability of Ubuntu.

On the Ubuntu-related launchpad-website
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/hardy
there are the current numbers of bugs for each release available. I think you should focus your effort of course to the lastest release/ LTS version. But be aware that a number of buigs higher than 100 maybe give a negative image...

Ubuntu Cleanup After Distribution Upgrades

Give the option of removing the previous kernel version from the distribution once you boot into the newly upgraded distribution of Ubuntu. It should also do a quick hardware check to be sure that the hardware all works, including setting the display to the optimal resolution. I had to do this all manually afterwards. This might confuse the end user who doesn’t know about different kernel versions.

apt-get repair

I propose this feature:
apt-get repair [pkg1 ...]
If a run this command:
sudo apt-get repair
apt-get will download the list of file names and md5-summs of all packages. If one file is missing or incorrect apt-get will ask me to download the package and reinstall it.
What is this command for?
If I modified a file of one or more packages, I can easily reset my system. An easy comand for this is still missing.

Do filesystem check less often

I know that you can skip this test in hardy but I still think the test is done way to often.
EXT3 is a good file system so I see no need to check the file system so often.
Users (for example Windows users) may think that Ubuntu has a bad file system you can't trust.
An option would be that the first time the file systems need checking tell the user WHY the system is checed and ask how important she think it is (like Never, Seldom, Often)

Empty root trash

I just discovered that the folder /root/.Trash contains everything I ever deleted while using a root nautilus window to manage root-owned folders...
Suffice to say it wasn't empty... ;)
http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-empty-root-trash.html
Perhaps with all the "Better trash bin" type ideas, this might have already been mentioned...
We need a button or link next to the empty trash button that says something like "Empty root trash" or even "View root trash" with a gksu prompt when pressed...
Or, this could be integrated into some sort of "Disk Cleanup" program.

Detect if the Pc is capable of running tracker smoothly(just like compiz detects if the PC can run it) and activate or deactivate it accordingly.
