It's pretty straight forward, show that type of information in order to inform someone else or yourself when they see the account locked up or with a wallpaper that it is being used, maybe doing something important or downloading a file, therefore the person will not choose to simply logout or shutdown the computer.

hottest ubuntu girl contest

Randomly I'm thinking about some Digg article about having hot girls associated with firefox and other software to make that software more appealing to use. Then I thought about another article one Digg talking about a lot of the girls on Digg are fake.
So I was thinking there should be a hottest ubuntu girl contest! With girls who are NOT fake and actually USE ubuntu! I guess that would be hard to figure out if they truly use ubuntu or not but just thought it'll be an interesting idea.
Perhaps associating ubuntu with a hot chick will attract a bit more people. Just thought it'd be an interesting idea. Plus I'm curious to see the results ;) ...Or frightened.

To Include the plugin "IE Tab" in Firefox 3

Hi! I ask to include the plugin "IE Tab" in Firefox 3 in Ubuntu 8.10.
https://addons.mozilla.org/es-ES/firefox/addon/1419
Reason? IE is a bad web explorer, but our politicians do not know it. Why? because in my case, in Spain, the Public Administration ONLY work in Internet Explorer, when I want to watch my personal information in the University, I need IE, when I have to send information (form) by the website of the ministry of X (jod, culture, education, industry...), I need IE!!! oh my good!! WHY??? WTF!!! Firefox doesn't work well, o directly, doesn't work.
If we want that everybody (at less in Spain) install Ubuntu in their PC, and they can work well, we need this (a lot of people don't know that this plugin exist!!).

I believe it would be great if there was a gnome centric GUI for configuring festival and other tts systems, plus a gnome applet that allows someone to press a key combination to have the clipboard contents read out aloud. Maybe the applets preferences dialog box should double as the festival GUI configuration tool. It's just a thought, and I believe if there were any Linux community likely to produce such a feature, it would most likely come from the ubuntu development team and as ubuntu is my preferred distribution I thought I'd post the idea here! The reasoning or the idea that prompted me suggesting such a thought was I would like to use ubuntu more, and I keep finding myself using my mac as I can have it speak to me clipboard contents really fast at a keystroke and it's easy to adjust the settings. Many thanks, Martin.

I would like to see an Ubuntu machine with the following characteristics:
iPhone form factor.
USB 3.0 port(s) both for charging, and for docking with an honest to goodness keyboard, monitor, mouse, speakers, and gamepad.
A powerful Field-programmable gate array that can emulate any modern multi-core CPU/GPU/chipset/soundcard combination popular up to say 3 years ago, capable of running any OS currently on the market, including a new custom Ubuntu*.
unencumbered wifi, an integrated webcam (on the same side as the screen!), and speex and h.264 hardware acceleration built in, and a pidgin plugin to connect p2p automagically over any network already available (MySpace, MSN, AIM, Yahoo, Gmail, ICQ, IRC, etc.) for VOIP, video chat, high speed file xfr, VNC, and automatic speech to text to babelfish to text to speech capabilities.
Tom Tom like GPS capabilities.
A microSD slot.
a mode of ad-hoc wifi on by default that can leap frog phone to phone until it finds an internet connection from any location near a likewise enabled phone, thereby extending wifi service, VOIP, VidChat, VNC, and file xfr to any phone in range of a phone in range of a phone in range of a phone in range of a wifi router.
*The New Custom Ubuntu
Will act exactly like an iphone (but with better GPS, ie TOM TOM level usage) when in phone mode (but with no DRM, all based on FOSS), but also have real time VNC capabilities to and from any other machine connected to the internet, having the touchscreen act as the mouse cursor in that mode.

option to eject liveCD, and insert CDor DVD with data

when you use liveCD, you just cant eject it from the computer - so unless you have two drives, you cant use it
is it possible, to add feature like this?:
you choose a special option - eject liveCD and insert CD with data
all needed files are loaded to RAM, SWAP
liveCD is ejected
you can insert your CD, copy or read some data
and when you odnt need it anymore - you just put liveCD back to your computer
but of course it is sometimes impossible, to copy all needed files to computer, so if system is mising liveCD, it should ask user to swap CD, because it needs liveCD

Ubuntu should sell his own hardware

Ubuntu is free and open source OS and user can choose applications, install and modify them and even redistribute them as his own OS with a different name.
But nowadays hardware users still face a much stricter limitation on hardware usage enforced by many manufacturers through closed hardware specs and special limited design just for higher profits.
For instance ASUS choose to solder RAM and SSD on some of its EEE PC to force user to buy model with high price. Apple also limit user to use spare parts from any other manufacturer.
I hope Ubuntu can find some hardware partners to produce and sell much open-designed hardware and bring freedom to IT hardware.
Just like this:
Customized Ubuntu OS A + hardware A = Apple Time Capsule
Customized Ubuntu OS B + hardware B = Apple TV
Customized Ubuntu OS C + hardware C = Apple iPod touch
Then users no need to purchase a new machine just for getting another 8GB SSD or bigger HDD.
We need freedom to use both hardware and software and Ubuntu should give us both.

About once every three or four times the computer doesn't shutdown automatically. This problem has happened on 3 different computers of mine and never happens with Windows. It would be great if Ubuntu had the same reliability in this area so that we don't have to wait just to be sure that the computer is really going to be turned off. Thanks!

Bring back PowerPC as a supported arch

7.04 dropped PowerPC as a supported architecture after a decision by the technical board. It is now only a community supported port. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PowerPCReview for more info.
There are still lots of PowerPC users and there is an active section on the forums. However the going is a bit tough. Gutsy required quite a few work arounds to boot the install CD, and there are plenty of long standing PowerPC specific bugs.
It would be great for powerpc to be supported again. Perhaps canonical could hire a PowerPC dev, or a ports dev.

Issue an award rating to hardware vendors and PC manufacturers that produce the most compatible hardware for Ubuntu users.
You don't have to actually give them anything. Just a plug with a gold star seal of approval. The same as what PC mags do every year for their hardware reviews.
Hopefully a free plug to consumers who just might make a purchase will encourage hardware vendors to bust a move and make more of an effort to support Ubuntu and Linux over all.

There has been a lot of positive talk in the past about replacing Pidgin with a better client that uses Telepathy but now there's one that looks like it's almost ready to do that! Empathy ( http://live.gnome.org/Empathy ) has much more potential than Pidgin since Empathy uses Telepathy ( http://telepathy.freedesktop.org ). Although i don't think Empathy is quite ready for this in Intrepid, it certainly will be for the next release.
(If you'd like to give it a try, don't use the old version in the Hardy repos, look here: http://cass.no-ip.com/~cassidy/blog/index.php/post/2008/04/14/Voice-and-video-c alls-with-Empathy )
The fact that Empathy uses Telepathy to manage all the different protocols it supports is what makes it so great. Why is it that Pidgin supports file transfers on AIM but not Jabber? Why can't i use VoIP to talk to my Google Talk friends in Pidgin?
Empathy will enable more desktop integration, better support for multiple protocols, and a happier user :)
The bottom line is that Empathy has been making much more progress and improving much faster than Pidgin thanks to Telepathy and including it in Ubuntu will only help the process along!
Major Update! Empathy is now part of Gnome-- http://blog.ibeentoubuntu.com/2008/08/gnome-has-empathy-for-you.html

Having the new Amazon mp3 download software is a great first step. But what we need to persuade Amazon to do is create a version of the downloader that works directly in our music applications via a plugin, so you can purchase music directly in your application much the same way you can purchase tunes directly from iTunes.

Personally I own a Sony mp3 player, and there is no way that it can be used via Ubuntu. I've heard that iPods and Creative players are both supported, so why not add more brands to that list!
