To Include the plugin "IE Tab" in Firefox 3

Hi! I ask to include the plugin "IE Tab" in Firefox 3 in Ubuntu 8.10.
https://addons.mozilla.org/es-ES/firefox/addon/1419
Reason? IE is a bad web explorer, but our politicians do not know it. Why? because in my case, in Spain, the Public Administration ONLY work in Internet Explorer, when I want to watch my personal information in the University, I need IE, when I have to send information (form) by the website of the ministry of X (jod, culture, education, industry...), I need IE!!! oh my good!! WHY??? WTF!!! Firefox doesn't work well, o directly, doesn't work.
If we want that everybody (at less in Spain) install Ubuntu in their PC, and they can work well, we need this (a lot of people don't know that this plugin exist!!).

Right click menus as pie menus instead of drop down menus

You know how games like the sims 2 have pie menus? If you don't, here's some pictures:
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c237/syberspunk/TS2%20mods/vamprocillindpieme nufix/vamprocillindpiemenufix5edit.jpg
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/images11/MTS2_506375_mike_1102_PieMenu1.jpg
Now, the subtle (yet vital) difference between ubuntu and the sims 2 is that the sims 2 is a game and ubuntu isn't. Pie menus do appear in other games but i've never seen it outside a game and i think this would work very well in an operating system like ubuntu, especially if they're trying to improve the GUI and make themselves different from windows and mac.
On those pictures, you will see options which have "..." at the end. Thats for those options which, had you been using a dropdown menu, would have an arrow on the end to signify that the option leads to another menu. In the sims 2, it leads to another pie menu. In ubuntu, it leads to another dropdown menu.
So, this idea is a bit different but i think that this could work. Obviously it would have to have a different design to the sims 2 one, possibly having cut, copy and paste icons (amongst others) to help users find the one they want fast.

Disable enter Password for Administration

Won't implement

It would be nice to have an option put somewhere in administration to disable the requirement of entering your password to do administrative work. It reminds me a lot of vista's notifications, constantly asking for confirmation, although it does not hassle as much. I'm not asking to do away with it, just have the option to have this feature on or off.

make ubuntu secure!

Ubuntu is secure online but its very insecure due to physical access.
people can always hack your system by using the Live CD, and they can access files and re-install ubuntu.
When Live CD is inserted and a user wants to upgrade/re-install ubuntu should ask for a password (simillar to the sudo box that appears when you want to install software)
so what you think?

I've been thinking... there is a lot of trouble with mp3, avi, wma, and all those multimedia formats. (I know legal issues) So, why not making EASIER and a smoother transition to free formats like Ogg. Ogg is actually BETTER than mp3.
Its about giving information, making easier things.
Example:
- When user tries to reproduce mp3 file:
offer 2 options, 1) convert to Ogg format and talk about advantages of this format, 2) download proprietary codecs
- Every media player should ask this to the user on first run and convert it too if needed.
This could be a solution with all the trouble with proprietary media files.
FEEL FREE TO SUGGEST ANY OTHER WAY TO GET TO THE SAME OBJECTIVE, USE FREE FORMATS.

Create a website similar to the Mojave Experiment, except for Ubuntu. This is a great marketing idea. It would help show that Ubuntu is an easy to learn alternative to vista and xp.

I think Ubuntu should show an alert when a USB drive is unplugged "hardly", that is without selecting the option "umount drive". Or, another way, could be to add a message in notification bar, when he plugs-in the USB drive, remembering he should umount the device before plugging it out.
I prefer the first idea.

Sometimes it becomes annoying when asking for passwords becomes too much like changing date or time, checking updates etc.please correct some annoying messages and password prompts wherever unnecessary.I dont see adjusting system time or date hurts users,in xp users have ability to change date/time.also if there is single user on pc
who can benefit setting wrong time/date,almost linux is more secure than xp/windows so no point asking passwords where it is unneccesary stuff/minuscule change to system.

Just like many of you might of seen on Windows Vista, you can use a USB device to speed up the RAM on your Ubuntu computer. This can be useful for people who have an old computer with all the compatible specs except the RAM compatibility and useful for many other causes.

In many environments computers are left unattended (e.g. schools, libraries, etc) and people can launch applications which mimic the look-and-feel of the login application (GDM) in order to get the users username and password.
This is called login spoofing.
Login spoofing can be prevented by using a secure attention key which is a key combination pressed before the user login to launch the password request dialog. This key can only be seen by the kernel, and not sniffed by any application.

I was not able to create a writeable share as my normal user, which is a problem in itself. To circumvent the problem, I create the share as the root. Now the folder is shared, but my user account does not know it. It does not show the icon on the folder saying that it is shared, nor does the sharing options menu say that it is shared. This is a potential security risk because you can create shares through root and the users would know nothing about them.
The user needs to know which folders are being shared.

On windows, the backspace key goes to the previous page in your history but on Ubuntu it doesn't. It was because of a bug I believe but it would be a help.

Create software fallbacks for composite rendering

currently, applications that use composite effects cannot be initialized without having compiz (or other composite rendering server) running.
please create a software based fall back for those applications, whether in X server extensions, or in the applications themselves.
Two problematic applications I know of are Elisa media center and avant window navigator - both fail to run without compiz.
Note:
Enlightenment DE and OsX (afaik) are software rendered.

The RAM disk at /dev/shm is a very useful device, especially for temporarily extracting archives to (remember the Amiga days?). The convenience of automatic deletion of temporary data like that at reboot cannot be understated.
Currently few new users are aware of it. A link to /dev/shm should be added by default to the Places menu and perhaps an option somewhere to display it as a volume icon on the desktop would be good too, rather than have to manually create a launcher for it, though the latter is not really a big deal.

Sound Juicer is fine, but there's no reason to have 2 apps when one will do. Rhythmbox should be an all encompassing application for your music collection, which includes CD ripping. Most every other music manager application has this integrated and the main music application for Ubuntu should too.

I propose to remove the 'Stop' and 'Reload' buttons from Nautilus toolbar.
They're useful in a browser, but not in a file manager. Nobody uses them. They just clutter.

Please release future releases in DVD ISO distro's too please.
I use the unoficial DVD ISO's to set up many machines: servers, desktops, laptops, gnome & kde, and use same ISO for USB live-pendrive setup. On-site bootup & troubleshooting
Need something that is as complete as possible for when I do not have access to the web, and don't want to go digging around for some driver that should have been there to start off with (know this could be problematic for some archane hardware). Aslo include drivers for Intel Mac's & eeePC, as this is standardised hardware

Talk to VMware to include VMware Workstation in the repositories

VMware Workstation is one of the best cross-platform virtualization software out there (without forgetting VirtualBox!), so why not at least talk to VMware to include it the Partner repositories, or multiverse, or something?
VMware is very "Linux friendly", they develop software for Linux, offer freeware versions of products with the basic functions, they support Linux as a "guest" operating system... they even have pre-configured settings for ubuntu!
Also, at the moment I think it is the only software for linux capable of virtualizing a copy of Windows (XP) with easy 3D support (version 6.5, still in beta, but open to the public)
I don't see the problem in having it in a different repository (if VMware agrees, of course), disabled by default... it would be good for everyone: the users, the developers, and even for the adoption of Linux itself...
Doing that would be giving more freedom of choice to users, freedom to use more programs, freedom to do more things, without taking the freedom of the ones that don't want it or don't need it, not even a bit...
I think Linux shouldn't be like:
"Proprietary Software: against it at all costs!"
instead sould be more like:
"Free Software: the more, the better..."
(just my opinion...)
Cheers

There is an application (mpg321) that allows a user to hover their mouse pointer over any music file to hear a preview. I use this feature all of the time. If it was placed in Ubuntu, it should also be placed in the file chooser as well
