Stores: I think it would be great is there were some Ubuntu posters at stores up next to the Apple and Microsoft ones. Of course it would be hard to get them up at huge corporate places, but at some small places its guaranteed they know what Linux is.

Schools: Send them to schools. They will put them up! regardless if they know what it is or not. There are probably even teachers here, who would be willing to put up posters.

I also suggest narrow vertical posters!?

Step 1: Choose a day, significant to Linux.
Step 2: Get as many Distributions to write official announcements about it.
Step 3: Parade in major Linux City. Distros get there own floats . To get mainstream news.

Online Events: Start an internet wide campaign, to include "About Linux" links at the bottom of websites.

There was a National News Broadcast in Canada about Fire Fox and that people were doing the work for free, and it's "Open Source," I think Linux should get the same treatment.

Other options instead of Linux/Ubuntu: Open Source day etc.
