Fix compatibility with webcams and microphone

In many cases, I can't configure my webcam or I have problems with the microphone. Now I can use my webcam but only with V4L2 and only 3 programas detect my webcam. It's a good idea can use my webcam in all programs as camorama.

Developer comments
That's pure driver issue in the first place. A big plus is to recommend UVC-based webcams to users, since it takes a lot of work off the shoulders of driver-developers. On the
integration-side proper support for v4l/v4l2 in webcam-related applications needs to be solidified. The ideal application to polish up is cheese of course.

Hi!

I'm a big fan of Images like .iso.
But it is not very easy to mount this Images.
I think there must be a Tool in Nautilus and Dolphin wich alows mounting Images with a double Click. (This feature exists int MacOS). Or with a right click on the file and then there must be a poit "Mount Image". I thick that would be a very use full Tool for every one.
A good example for this is CDemu.

I know there are some ohter good programs, but I think that would be the easyest way and very confortible.

Unmount resolution

When someone wants to unmount a volume and the mount point is used, he gets a message telling him that the volume can't be unmounted because an application uses it. The user has no idea which application is actually using it and can't remove the device.

I propose that the popup tells him which application(s) is(are) using the device and propose to terminate them (that list should be kept up to date when the app. dies).

Upstream bug (GNOME #528559) has a patch in discussion. Volunteering to work on it.

Provide a simple graphical interface to manage _any_ type of network connection
Ubuntu

Priority : Medium
Definition : New (Needs guidance)
Implementation : Unknown

Written by Alan Pope the 28 Feb 08 at 13:50. Category: Internet & Networking. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
At the moment it's possible to manage traditional wired and WiFi connections using Network Manager. To connect via a modem, a 3G/GPRS card, over bluetooth to a cell phone or via USB to another device requires that the user installs extra packages, and does a fair amount of configuration that isn't found in Network Manager.

A single unified tool should be provided which allows the user to connect to a network (or internet) via any supported method. It would also be useful to provide an extension to this tool to manage firewall rules and network connection sharing.

Hardware Testing improvement for beginners
No information about this blueprint
Information is updated every 5 minutes.
Please wait till the next update.

Written by zarg the 27 Jul 08 at 11:16. Category: Hardware support. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Hello everybody!

At the moment the Hardware Testing tool for Ubuntu asks for the Email address of your Launchpad account on the last page and will not let you send the report if you leave the field empty.

Obvious problem: A new Ubuntu user might have never heard of Launchpad and most likely does not have an account for it! Moreover the hardware testing tool does not give any information what that "Launchpad" should be ...
We do NOT want new users to get confused, right? Especially not if they have hardware problems ...

Please improve this by
- giving an "I don't have a Launchpad account" option OR
- letting the user to create one (easily!) OR
- telling the user that he can use his normal Email address if he does not have a Launchpad account
(Or maybe a combination of them ;P)

This is just a small change, but anyway, I believe that it is important that we do not confuse people that are willing to switch to Linux / Ubuntu ...

Thank you for reading and I hope that you agree with me ... :-)

make the most of the OpenGL

Make use openGL to the fullest
*OpenGL (Open Graphics Library) is a standard specification defining a cross-language cross-platform API for writing applications that produce 2D and 3D computer graphics.

*-OpenGL can beat directx, although i dont know technicality
of both but still.Mac uses most of OpenGL in boot, graphics etc.Directx is used by microsoft to render graphics but here is comparision
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_OpenGL_and_Direct3D
and opengl can perform to the level of directx
There was recent talk of uses OpenGL face browser, although i don't know its fate.give a full support, develop opengl based applications.

Noise Cancelation when using headphones
Written by stereo_steve the 26 Jul 08 at 17:51. Category: Multimedia. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
For those of you that are unaware of noise cancellation headphones, they are headphones that have a mic and listen to the noise around you and then alter the sound that comes out of the headphones. The result is great.

I would like to suggest that there be an option in Ubuntu to provide noise cancellation when there is a mic in the computer and someone is using headphones.

I propose a tab in System -> Preferences -> Sound The tab would have an input drop down menu and an output drop down menu. This is where you can specify your input/ output sources. To activate / deactivate noise cancellation it should be straight forward, maybe right click on the volume icon in the panel and click on noise cancellation.

Real world example... Jack is sitting on a plane and a baby is crying. Jack turns on noise cancellation and can no longer hear the crying.

F-Spot import/file organization should be configurable.
Written by lutimdale the 25 Jul 08 at 11:26. Category: Graphics. Related to: F-Spot Photo Manager. New
Currently, pictures are organized like this:
Pictures/2008/07/01
Pictures/2008/07/05

Everyone organizes their large photo collections by full date because
1) this is how the pictures are taken (in events that typicaly fall on one date)
2) this is how typically other photo management programs group them (see Vista Photo Gallery, Picasa, etc.)
3) you need to be able to get at the folders from outside of the application. This is critical for backup/recovery, passing to friends, etc.
4) Having the folder marked as day only makes it not practical to add a description to the folder name

What I'm talking about is that on import, f-spot should by default create folders such
Pictures/2008-07-01
Pictures/2008-07-05
This is the best starting point, since 90% of the time, each album is separated by day. The date should be pulled in from exif data. I actually organize my albums by year, then date + description. For example,
Pictures/2008/2008-07-01 Birthday Party
Pictures/2008/2008-07-05 Camping
This should be configurable as everyone has their own preferences. Yes, even this format should be supported
Pictures/2008/07/01
Pictures/2008/07/05
but it should not be the default.

You should be able to edit the folder name from within F-Spot as well as from the file manager. F-Spot should be able to recognize the change and not loose any categorization for the affected photos.

add the built in ram disc to nautilus by default
Written by stinger30au the 26 Jul 08 at 10:09. Category: Look and Feel. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Ubuntu comes with a ram disc built in and i bet there is tons of people who dont know it even exists

it lives in /dev/shm

it is a auto resizing ram disc and like all good ram discs it will be wiped when ever you log of or pc reset.

when ubuntu is installed there should be a link to it in nautilus and in kde there should be a link in Konqueror

Ubuntu should offer to autoremove unused packages
Written by scavenger the 26 Jul 08 at 10:30. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Ubuntu should offer to remove software I once used and now forgot to remove. Graphical apps that show up in the menu I don't forget that much, but I usually install whole shiploads of cli apps that I think I need, which makes my PC slower.

To realise this, Ubuntu should take notes of every app that's started, excluding system apps (echo, ls, cat).

Print dialog should easily offer black/white
Written by droetker the 25 Jul 08 at 15:19. Category: System. Related to: KDE. New
There should be an option to print images black/white in the KDE print dialog.

The GNOME print dialog has this feature - the KDE one just very hidden in the printer driver options.

Shipit for Dell customers
Written by Auzy the 25 Apr 08 at 03:19. Category: Marketing. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Canonical should arrange an email out with Dell to offer free upgrade CD's to be downloaded/or mailed out for their copies of ubuntu.

That would be a big win for us, because you don't get free upgrade CD's on Windows or OSX. And any user would see how dedicated dell and Ubuntu are to their linux customers.

Morale would be VERY high in the Dell Linux marketplace, and its a extremely nice gesture. Every user would love you for it, and if even a single business is using Ubuntu-Dell computers, they will be reminded of the ubuntu advantage :)

Offer to cleanup disk when low space
Written by virkang the 24 Apr 08 at 13:20. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
When you launch an update, or install new programs, and there's not enough free space on the disk, there's a "not enough free space" error message that says you can empty your trash, and type a "sudo apt-get clean" on the console.

There should be a clear dialog box asking if the system can free up space for you (yes or no), and explaining what the system will do for you. If yes is selected, the system empty the trash, and do the apt-get clean by itself. If No is selected, the installation or update is interrupted.

Have an image that you can load into your CD writer software to write on the disc as LightScribe/LabelFlash/DiscT@2.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LightScribe

Or that you can print a sticker and attach it to the CD to have the Ubuntu CD be Ubuntu branded.

Add extra GIMP plugins pack to the repository

I just found some very very useful plugins for gimp at http://registry.gimp.org
It would be nice to have an entry in synaptic to install extra plugins for GIMP from there and not only!
This way we could benefit from all new features being developed by the community.
