grubsplash & usplash

the grubsplash should be with a background by default ,it should have the name of the release.(codename & number)
the usplash should have a single line stating "booting kernel xxxx.../shutting down... /restarting.../ect "(somthing like this).
without which ,it gives the user a feeling of it to be a primitive os .(thats what i think)
it would simply add a "line of elegange".
& the usplash should also have the name of the release.(codename & number)

Prominent Link to Microsoft's Ideas Page

A lot of the ideas that pop up on here have more to do with getting around problems introduced when working with Windows in a mixed Linux / Windows environment (ie dual-boot) rather than actual problems with Ubuntu.
I think that providing a link to the Microsoft Ideas site in brainstorm would be a way to get some of those requests forwarded to the right departments.
http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/outreach/ideas/ideaSubmit.mspx
Unfortunately their "Brainstorm"-ish page is currently broken and the support rep I just IMed to wanted me to visit some other website because he wasn't trained in reporting broken links... and couldn't click on the link he sent me to report it himself...
(BTW, If you'd like a similar experience here's their support rep page: http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/cu_sc_more_master?ws=mscom#tab1 )

There has been many requests from users from windows background, mac users who want to use ubuntu, gnome in particular to change the Main menu(applications, places, system menu's) to look better and more usability.i wonder if ubuntu developers care much about it.Its already a big mess, windows and mac users find hard time getting acquainted to it.speaking of Guinness and originality to linux where is it(?),Every distro uses its core as Gnome but changes it to its own style look out Opensuse, pclinuxos,Linux mint, etc,yes ubuntu just kept there logo in main menu but nothing special there, they haven't changed the default core of Appearance to make it pleasing or usable,"just works(tag missing) in panel behaviour"
The point is i dont want to copy anything from windows or mac but improvements in organizing and bridging user learning curve easier when switching os,make it usable.user doesn't should not need to read manual to "know the default Linux Interface".

Bar panel(heard this?)
Gimme(make use of its intelligent organization system)
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/global_menu,this is just buggy as hell project i just want developers to look into it.i dont want to install global menu or some third party stuff.Done with seeing Mockups lets make it happen.

Something really nice would be a fully integrated ubuntu-chat client similar to google talk/ICQ and such but this time designed for ubuntu. The client would have some plugin to be compatible with other protocols but will use its own protocol by default.
So why doing this when there are tons of other IM's?
That piece of software will have useful options to find other ubuntu-neophytes nearby your area and such. The idea behind it is to simplify communication between ubuntu users and communications in general, a ubuntu webmail server (if doesnt exists yet :p) could be linked to that IM client.
Windows has had msn by default and I am sure some lazy people who didnt want to search to much around really liked it. So why not doing the same kind of thing (not as invasive as msn though :p ) for ubuntu.
I am a pidgin user and I use 3 different protocols already (msn,ICQ and gtalk) but I think a default one for ubuntu would be greatly welcomed by neophytes.

It happens that a user deletes data that wants to return.
Now Linux have no ability for it.
But this is certainly very important and feasible option.

This idea is forfeited. I trust we all learned as much as I did. Have a good day.
"Theoretically, this should be less hit and miss than WINE, because osx is actually a decent, consistent operating system. [[I learned this was not true]] It may, however, require reimplementing quite a lot of code-- quartz, cocoa, carbon, mach, IOKit, what have you. [[dang straight it's a lot of code]]
Right now it's just looking like OSX may get to windows before we do, [[time to start trying harder as an evangelist]] and if it comes down to two awesome desktops and one has native apps and one doesn't, things could get ugly. As far as I'm concerned, this is the reason for GNUstep's existence. [[probably blasphemy there]]
At least get us a feasability report on this. [[Done.]]"

I just installed Ubuntu 8.04 "Hardy Heron".
The installer asked me for location, I picked Sweden.
Now I installed in Ubuntu, but in GNOME Clock Preferences, there are no locations listed.
So now I have to add it manually again, I shouldn't have todo that, since I already told the system my location when I installed Ubuntu.

Add option to Add/Remove... to filter out GNOME or KDE specific applications

It would be great if there were a way in the included Add/Remove... program to filter out either GNOME-specific or KDE-specific apps. It's really annoying to stumble upon an application that sounds really cool and/or useful, but then look and see it's for the desktop you don't use.
I use GNOME, and I don't want to see any of the KDE apps.

Include Compiz Fusion Manager by default
Developer comments
Sorry, but no. The stack has to mature. DRI2, drivers and default settings of compiz are the things that need attention. Adding and enabling "power-user"-features by default, which are only used by a fraction of the whole user-base, is an unnecessary introduction of UI-clutter we try to avoid.

When you login, if you type wrong username/password, there will be a slight delay before it lets you try again. This is a security feature.
I propose that we decrease (or remove) the delay on the first failed login attempt. It would be a convenience.
The other failed attempts (after the first failed attempt) would still have a delay though.
This would make the system more forgiving if you type wrong, yet still maintain security.

Include a thumbnail of how the application looks in the Add/Remove Program in the description pane.
This visual reminder will help users to recognise the program desired quickly.
I have found that the icons for the programs, that are available in Add/Remove, are sometimes not enough to identify the application

Brainstorm for others

Someone please, please implement a global brainstorm site that would allow people to suggest ideas to other companies and entities besides Canonical. Some examples:
- Google
- Microsoft
- NASA
- US President
- Pope
- Scientific community
That will be a very useful and popular website. You will make a ton of money in advertising, and you'll probably make the world a better place.
"Make Brainstorm open source" is marked as done, so there is probably a source code somewhere that you can use.
For bonus points, use SlashCode for comments moderation system. Discussion threads are going to be huge.
Sorry if this doesn't appeal to Canonical directly, although you guys might also consider this. Thank you for this wonderful resource!

Would be nice to have just UBUNTU and UBUNTU KDE this would mean that not just the name but the artwork would be unified and it could be less confusing for new users, Also should be able simply to choose between them during the installation, or better yet, that the Live-CD bootscreen asks you which one would you like to boot. This would help a lot to make more CONSISTENT distribution and Kubuntu Project start taken seriously by Canonical. The point of this idea it's unify Both projects and make it to be just UBUNTU, like OpenSUSE, there is just OPENSUSE, there's no KOPENSUSE or something like that, they just ask you when you're about to install it which environment to use, such as Debian does too.

we could make good use of a donation center which collects donations only for games.
ideas of games are submitted by the users, developers, gaming companies etc.
user based voting on ideas to select the best idea.
project fee estimated.
once donations have reached a certain amount safe enough to start production , the project begins.
developers hired to work on the project with the funds collected from donations
this is done for many interesting ideas and projects with hope
