Ubuntu's bootloader is a stark black and white screen, filled with confusing options. It gives newbies a moment of indecision, as they try to figure out if they are supposed to choose something, and wonder why there are three or four Ubuntus listed. Then the timer finishes counting down (starting from 10), and the newb begins to feel like he's getting in over his head as his PC boots into Ubuntu.
Too much information up front, stark text-only display, painfully long countdown timer. What would be the alternative? Well, when a Fedora PC is booted up, the first thing the user sees is a graphical splash screen, and "Booting into Fedora (kernel version) in 4 seconds ... " The user can press a key to interrupt and select from kernel versions or alternative operating systems, or just let it boot into Fedora.
Can't we create our own attractive bootloader? Or, failing that, copy-and-paste Fedora's?

Speed Up Ubuntu-Gnome boot time

I guess everybody has experienced the rather long boot up times in Ubuntu (particularly with laptops). I know they are already working on it, but the change from feisty to gutsy was a pain in the ass in terms of boot up speed.
A default WinXP installation beats Ubuntu's boot up time by far!! That shouldn't be allowed fellas!!
I therefore propose to the development team (both Ubuntu and by extension Gnome)to work on the improvement of boot up times in Ubuntu systems.

There has been many requests from users from windows background, mac users who want to use ubuntu, gnome in particular to change the Main menu(applications, places, system menu's) to look better and more usability.i wonder if ubuntu developers care much about it.Its already a big mess, windows and mac users find hard time getting acquainted to it.speaking of Guinness and originality to linux where is it(?),Every distro uses its core as Gnome but changes it to its own style look out Opensuse, pclinuxos,Linux mint, etc,yes ubuntu just kept there logo in main menu but nothing special there, they haven't changed the default core of Appearance to make it pleasing or usable,"just works(tag missing) in panel behaviour"
The point is i dont want to copy anything from windows or mac but improvements in organizing and bridging user learning curve easier when switching os,make it usable.user doesn't should not need to read manual to "know the default Linux Interface".

Bar panel(heard this?)
Gimme(make use of its intelligent organization system)
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/global_menu,this is just buggy as hell project i just want developers to look into it.i dont want to install global menu or some third party stuff.Done with seeing Mockups lets make it happen.
WARNING:final results may vary.

Under the release notes for the latest Ubuntu, I tried to find the system requirements (ie Memory, Hard Disk space, etc etc...) but only found a brief bit on the memory usage.
idea!-> have a nice simple list of the minimum requirements.
Possibly on the download page too.

I like the Ubuntu Mobile and Embedded initiative. I think it would be really cool to have a phone with my favourite os on it :P
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MobileAndEmbedded
I faked some screenshots of how I think Ubmob would be brilliant.
http://www.2shared.com/file/3162217/70eebbb8/ubmob.html
Ubmob should have:
- Applications/places/system menu structure
- Task bar
- WiFi/Bluetooth/IrDA/3G
- SD/USB
- Web browser (Firefox 3), RSS/Podcast reader, email (Evolution), chat (Pidgin), command-line bittorrent, VNC viewer
- Media player (Gstreamer), Nautilus with thumbnailing, Terminal, advanced calculator, notes (not tomboy), baobab
- Full GnomeVFS, gedit, python, pygtk
- It's one repository and update system
- Multi-user support
- NO shutdown, only lock/standby/switch user/hibernate
- Special interaction program for Ubuntu Desktop
- NFS/UpnP for file sharing by default.

Ubuntu should offer to autoremove unused packages

Ubuntu should offer to remove software I once used and now forgot to remove. Graphical apps that show up in the menu I don't forget that much, but I usually install whole shiploads of cli apps that I think I need, which makes my PC slower.
To realise this, Ubuntu should take notes of every app that's started, excluding system apps (echo, ls, cat).

Just like many of you might of seen on Windows Vista, you can use a USB device to speed up the RAM on your Ubuntu computer. This can be useful for people who have an old computer with all the compatible specs except the RAM compatibility and useful for many other causes.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opengl
Make use openGL to the fullest
*OpenGL (Open Graphics Library) is a standard specification defining a cross-language cross-platform API for writing applications that produce 2D and 3D computer graphics.
*-OpenGL can beat directx, although i dont know technicality
of both but still.Mac uses most of OpenGL in boot, graphics etc.Directx is used by microsoft to render graphics but here is comparision
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_OpenGL_and_Direct3D
and opengl can perform to the level of directx
There was recent talk of uses OpenGL face browser, although i don't know its fate.give a full support, develop opengl based applications.

Very very easy way to share files over the internet: Tubes

Imagine a folder on your desktop, when you drop a file in it, the file is transmitted to your friend anywhere on the internet. Transfer is asynchronous so if the person is away, then it's postponed until the next time they are online.
The folders are called "Tubes"
Tubes can also be more sophisticated to allow multiple people to be on the receiving end.
The idea is already implemented on Windows
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tubes_%28software%29
I like the name Tubes and hope it is not trademarked. Actually, I thought of the idea and name before them from pneumatic tubes which I think are a brilliant invention!

When you get a home directory, all the folders are capitalized. This really hurts when using the commandline. If they can't all be converted to lowercase by default, at least have an option do do so.

Would be nice to have just UBUNTU and UBUNTU KDE this would mean that not just the name but the artwork would be unified and it could be less confusing for new users, Also should be able simply to choose between them during the installation, or better yet, that the Live-CD bootscreen asks you which one would you like to boot. This would help a lot to make more CONSISTENT distribution and Kubuntu Project start taken seriously by Canonical. The point of this idea it's unify Both projects and make it to be just UBUNTU, like OpenSUSE, there is just OPENSUSE, there's no KOPENSUSE or something like that, they just ask you when you're about to install it which environment to use, such as Debian does too.
