New Ubuntu edition focused on Touch GUI
Written by raovsem the 31 May 08 at 11:03. Category: Hardware support. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
It's not a secret that industry is pushing new technologies based on touch interfaces (multitouch in iPhone/Macbook Pro; fist details on Windows 7...).

This means that big computer manufacturers (dell, hp, lenovo...) will be pushed by the market to introduce more and more devices at affordable prices that supports this emerging (and sucessful!) way of interacting with computers.

Soon keybord and mouse will be just at archaeology museums... and I hope Ubuntu will be not with them, plenty of dust beside examples of cuneiform script :(

Eliminate duplicated votes in merged ideas
Written by raovsem the 1 Jun 08 at 20:46. Category: Brainstorm. Related to: Nothing/Others. Already implemented
When an idea is duplicated at Brainstorming and finally merged with a previous one, votes should not be added directly, duplicated votes from the same user should be removed first.

Create a developers directory and a "hall of fame"
Written by raovsem the 1 Jun 08 at 22:08. Category: Marketing. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
I think we all agree in the great job that anonymous developers are doing with Ubuntu and many other related projects (Gnome, KDE, Compiz, X.org, Wine, AWN...).

I think it's good idea to recognise that effort creating a directory of developers/teams with brief personal description... nicknames, email, university/institution (if it applies), area of specialization and ongoing projects.

The best contributions, voted by community members, can be awarded by adding them to Ubuntu's Hall of Fame :)

Include BOINC as default software in Ubuntu Installation
Written by raovsem the 13 Apr 08 at 19:03. Category: Installation. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
BOINC is an open-source “grid computing” software, developed in Berkeley University, that allows to use the idle time on your computer to study diseases, global warming, discover pulsars, and do many other types of scientific research.

I think goals of this project match perfectly the Ubuntu claim, and provide a new social dimension of this kind of software, something like: Ubuntu for life!. Furthermore, promoting this collaboration could provide great visibility of both projects.

BOINC should be installed and configured during Ubuntu installation, so it will be necessary to work close to Berkeley University to adapt and improve user interface during subscription and configuration (project selection, performance impact…).

It will be great to promote an active Ubuntu Community collaboration in projects as the sponsored by the “World Community Grid” helping scientists in projects that need massive computing power to be solved, such fighting Cancer, AIDS or Dengue (http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org).

In addition, it will be great to improve it’s rakings per project, comparing different OS, and including Linux and Ubuntu contributions (members will feel proud of total computing power provided thanks to Ubuntu).
