AbiWord is a lightweight word processor. Unlike OpenOffice.org Writer, AbiWord loads fast and has a smaller RAM footprint --meaning it doesn't slow down your computer.
The latest released version is 2.6.2 which includes many improvements and better integration with the ODF (the ISO standard). However, there is no .deb package to install it in Ubuntu.
Please, build a .deb package of the latest version of AbiWord and include it in the repositories, so people who want a light alternative of a word processor can use AbiWord.

Kubuntu 8.04 was not LTS for obvious reason of switching from KDE3 to KDE4. But I think that 4.1 will be stable enough for LTS version.
I know that this is solely Kubuntu users problem, but don't forget on us.

The "About me" utility provided with gnome should be integrated with Pidgin and Evolution. The avatar set there should work as a "global" avatar. The utility should be able to manage the main E-mail address, IM accounts, signatures and everything that is related to the user.
I know, maybe time's not ready for such a pervasive control, but we actually have a lot of identities: let's start thinking about an easy way to rule them all.

Canonical should form a partnership with a big hardware vendor like Dell to create and market a media center. The media center should be sold as an appliance, and as such shouldn't be sold as "Ubuntu" or "Linux", but as a media center.
This media center should feature multimedia stores, games stores, and sell also as a gaming platform, with free "sample games", i.e. open source / free software games ready for easy & free download. These sample games should include all good and complete, or close to complete, FOSS games.
Dell would profit from selling the hardware, and Canonical would profit from the online stores paying commission per purchase or something similar. This would also probably mean a lot more multimedia released and available in open formats (without DRM), and more games for Linux.

Computers are often left running for quite some time while not really doing anything but creating heat and being vulnerable.
Powersave options should include the option to completely switch off the computer after x time, or when application y is stopped/no longer downloading that file.
X and Y would of course be configurable.
EDIT: Hibernation - when implemented in the right way, see brainstorm #80 - would even better. This way, no data would be lost.
