Quote from VoxForge.org:
---
Most acoustic models used by 'Open Source' speech recognition (or Speech-to-Text) engines are 'Closed Source'. They do not give you access to the speech audio and transcriptions (i.e. the speech corpus) used to create the acoustic model.
---

Ubuntu should have a reasonable speech recognition some day. So start the underlying works today. I think helping VoxForge is a good start.

Ubuntu has a great community, so it can introduce VoxForge to users and suggest users to contribute to VoxForge. Explain to users why they should contribute to VoxForge.

Solution #1: Auto-generated solution of idea #4718
Written by ebrahim the 15 Mar 08 at 10:50.
Ubuntu Brainstorm was updated in January 2009. Since the idea #4718 was submitted before this update, its rationale and solution are not separated. Please vote accordingly, and if you have the necessary rights, please separate the rationale from the solution. Thanks!

Solution #2: Help simon-listens project for speech recognition with intuitive interface
Written by pablodav the 18 Jun 10 at 01:09.
Look some idea to get it:
Help people from some projects, help developing or help with money.
Help http://www.simon-listens.org/ to get a final version or at least an a ready to use version for users, also help them integrating packages in Ubuntu.

Promote this project, promote http://voxforge.org/ database to help in get as soon as possible this database complete.

Make some customizations for Ubuntu desktop to get it ready for work! and ready in Accessibility.

I saw in alpha version you should have uninstalled Julius package (so it should be added as a conflict in .deb package).

Also look into the latest notes in blueprint:
