Delay Hardy if necessary; shouldn't LTS focus on Bug Fixing?
|

Won't implement
|
|
I have read a lot of posts stating so many bugs in hardy and it will still be released. It is also slower to boot. THIS ISN'T HOW IT SHOULD BE!!!
Shouldn't LTS releases focus on bug fixing and stability and reliability, then speed, then other stuff?
We might have to delay hardy a couple of months if it is really this bad. I don't want a messed up computing system!

Busy cursor as ubuntu animated logo

Even though, I like the current busy cursor, I thought that would be much original if, instead of the MAC_Loading Animation to busy cursor, would be the ubuntu logo rotating around its origin.
Also this might be done for Kubuntu and Xubuntu, too, with their own logos.
Please excuse my English!

Include BOINC as default software in Ubuntu Installation

BOINC is an open-source “grid computing” software, developed in Berkeley University, that allows to use the idle time on your computer to study diseases, global warming, discover pulsars, and do many other types of scientific research.
I think goals of this project match perfectly the Ubuntu claim, and provide a new social dimension of this kind of software, something like: Ubuntu for life!. Furthermore, promoting this collaboration could provide great visibility of both projects.
BOINC should be installed and configured during Ubuntu installation, so it will be necessary to work close to Berkeley University to adapt and improve user interface during subscription and configuration (project selection, performance impact…).
It will be great to promote an active Ubuntu Community collaboration in projects as the sponsored by the “World Community Grid” helping scientists in projects that need massive computing power to be solved, such fighting Cancer, AIDS or Dengue ( http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org).
In addition, it will be great to improve it’s rakings per project, comparing different OS, and including Linux and Ubuntu contributions (members will feel proud of total computing power provided thanks to Ubuntu).

Make symbolic links for documents, pictures, music ...

Hello, like many body I have a dual-booting system after I install Ubuntu on my computer with WindowsXp already installed.I want to use only one "My Documents" with both 2 OS, and I think the "Migrate Documents and Settings" should create a symbolic link to Documents folder in /home/[user name]/
Sorry for my poor English, but the command line:
In my /home/[user name]/Documents/
ln -s /media/[your windows partition/Documents\ and\ Settings/[user name]/My\ Documents My\ Documents
You can do the same with your My Music, My Picture, My Videos folder in order to acess it easier from Ubuntu.

I don't know if this is possible, but it would be cool if there was a program that could enable me to set a list of programs to be present in memory from the system start. I know that this would make system startup much longer, but if you use like 6 pieces of software all the time during work like me it would make starting them up way faster.
You could make a list from the installed programs like:
- OpenOffice
- Gimp
- Audacious
- Doplhin
- Firefox
- Thunderbird
It would show the available memory and how much this would take away from it.
I imagine this by not starting the actual programs at startup (that is possible in other ways), but to make them start up extremely fast by loading most of them in memory (if you have 2GB RAM, you can spare some of it to this). If you close the program, it would dissapear, but would still be present in memory and if you click on it's icon it would appear instantly...

Even if it is very "w******s like": A single click in the adress bar of firefox should automatically select the whole url. It is very annoying to always use a double click if you want to enter a new url.

I think people should be able to do more to an idea, number wise, than vote it 'up' or 'down'.
How about voting it interesting, with good intentions, and poorly drafted? What if someone wants to see not just how 'popular' an idea is, but how controversial it is?

Gimp is a great graphics editor we all know. Congratulations to all developpers!
My Idea:
- Adding a Selection for "Using Gimp in one Window"
IMPORTANT
- That should NOT be default, but an option, which doesn't go in trouble for users liking this multi window management with its advantages!
I guess that more than 20% of the gimp users where really happy for this important feature. I know that Gimpshop and other Plugins are available, but this couldn't be the end solution. Gimp should bring this "little" feature with it in future! Thanks!

Simple suggestion:
have something on the firefox start page
(file:///usr/share/ubuntu-artwork/home/index.html)
that says "Get involved in the community! Got an Idea? Join the Ubuntu Idea brainstorm and you may see your idea implemented!"

I've installed Ubuntu. It seems good, but when I wanted to connect my mobile phone I found drivers only for Windows and Mac on disc with drivers. When I wanted to connect my camera, I also found only drivers for Windows and Mac. I bought WiFi adapter but I found drivers only for windows!
If I want to install google desktop, I get simple version only with search, but windows and mac have complete version.
I suggest to make it so that user installing Ubuntu has the same ability like Windows and Mac users.

First, allow users to delete their own truly silly ideas. It's ridiculous that I can edit this post to say whatever I want, but can't simply get rid of it.
Second, go straight from version 9.04 "Jaunty Joey" (or whatever) to 9.10 "Lanky Llama" (or whatever). Reasons being that KDE/Kubuntu should have a monopoly on its letter to prevent confusing, and that running "Kitschy Koala Kubuntu" lends itself to some terrible jokes and initialisms.

So the user could type
$untar filename.tar.gz
or
$untar filename.tar
And the archive would be extracted, similar to the unzip command, so tne beginner user doesn't have to look up for 'tar -zxvf' every time.
