Big problem that not only affects firefox 2, it also happens on firefox 3 beta and hasn't been resolved yet.

I get at least 4 or 5 crashes daily on older hardware. But even on new modern hardware i still get 1 or 2 crashes.

As everyone knows, the crashes happen the most when viewing heavy flash (be it fullscreen video, flash game, a few big flash ads on websites, etc.). It specifically happens when changing sites (visible crash) or when closing the browser (invisible crash, but FF does not free up the memory)

While i have a "killall firefox-bin" launcher icon on my desktop, sometimes my system becomes so unresponsive because it stays in memory and i have to try to reboot or force a system shutdown.

Anyway this can be easily fixed (when implemented) if the process is killed after a crash, freeing up the memory and making the system usable again.

sadly i had to install the windows version of Firefox + flash in Wine to avoid the crashing.... so why do we have a buggy linux version that won't even detect the crash and free up the mem??

It should be good if it can be possible to have some shadow behind the desktop icon with a choosable color and choosable alpha channel.
The reason for this feature is to have better visibility with some wallpaper that have region that seems to hide icons.
With this feature the icons should always be in good contrast and fast reachable.

I tried to make an example but I'm not good with graphics program so if someone could make an example , it will be nice.

Working with OpenOffice is like going back 10 years in time to microsoft office 97. OpenOffice's theme is terrible.

*a theme for openoffice, now it seams like there is no theme for openoffice

I can easily vote many times on any idea, if I click many times fast enough. This is clearly wrong and very undemocratic!

Most of the planet uses the Metric System. So why does the system default to imperial units? Make A4 the default paper size for printing, only two countries don't use it. Most people don't know what inches are so cm or mm should be the default.

a lot of times, text is not copied. even if i cut, the selected text disapears in firefox and isn't pasteable in pidgin. sometimes the clipboard is an older version, if i paste.

Editing ideas after people have voted could cause (obvious) problems. Why not give people 3 minutes after initially submitting the post.

I understand that a lot of you may or may not be newbies but a lot of the things that you have listed have either been done already or require very little on your part to enable or install the things that you request. I personally think that we should all just quit griping and just be glad that we can do these things in a short and easy manner. I am in no way an advanced user but the thing that keeps me going is the ability to install or deinstall anything on my buntu. If not for that then I would not be able to do the things in any linux system that I can now do after having to learn first hand. If we take all of this away from the new user, then he will never learn the things he needs to know in order to be a responsible user. This is the reason that the average user on a windows system ends up with an unusable system ridden with viruses and trojans and has to keep reinstalling frequently. I learned the hard way to individualize my system and so should the average new user if for no other reason than to teach them that we can do basically anything with our buntu system and finally live without viruses and have a safe and secure system for our children and other family members. In my opinion you are all just sounding like a bunch of lazy computer users that just want something easy that we can just put in and use right off the bat. If this is the case you can just go back to using your "easy" windows and hope that it continues to run in the near future.

Change start page of Brainstorm to show latest ideas or something, else people will probably push for the already high-graded ideas and won't care of other newer ideas.

Maybe a page with random ideas?

And remove the grades if not specifically requested, since it will affect peoples voting.

It would be nice to get an option in system configuration to replace the Caps Lock functionality (a relict from the old teletype printers) in favor of another Return key for the left hand.

Reason: Most people use the right hand to handle the mouse or trackball. Since both existing Return keys on a PC keyboard are on the right hand side only, you have to let go the mouse much too often to accept the defaults in on-screen menus, for example. Another return key on the left side would improve typing speed.

Of course Ubuntu cannot change the writing on the Caps Lock key.

Is it possible for a computer to have only RAM plus an extremely little HDD and OS, in order to any individual use as HDD a simple stick? I think that any future OS should be able to boot from memory sticks. Also, I think that the next desirable OS's will be very slender. So:
ANY IMPROVEMENT FOR THE NEXT UBUNTU OS MUST BE - FIRST OF ALL - USEFUL, THEN SLENDER AND, FINALLY, IT SHOULD BE EASILY TAKEN AWAY, BOOTABLE ON ANY COMPUTER. Maybe, the next public computers could be used with (any kind of) simple memory stick.

Add classification to brainstorm like: Very good, good, bad, very bad

Create a website where Linux users can sign a petition, the petition will show the size of the Linux community. And that changing there applications to support Linux will be profitable.

-- send petition to Governments and Major Businesses for more support.
-- send petition to Colleges and Universities to include more education programs and classes on Linux.

Linux needs a group of individuals advocating that Linux is big business.

It would be useful to have a list of most cited words in the ides : firefox, cpu, power, users, interface, etc...

In first, it'll give an idea of softwares, or processes, or concept, etc. that often come back.

In second time, we'll have an overview of what are the concepts most cited by the users, and where we have to place our efforts.

Unlike Epiphnay, Firefox is not a real GNOME application, even with the enhanced native look which has been introduced by Firefox 3.0.

Epiphany is a very simple browser, more conforming to the spirit of GNOME, which lacks a lot of the features of Firefox. However, I think most people will probably not need Firefox' extra features and plugins. Those who do need Firefox could easily download it when Epiphany becomes the default webbrowser included out-of-the-box in Ubuntu. Ubuntu should aim for consistency, and Epiphany certainly is a better candidate than Firefox if consistency is the goal.

Epiphany currently uses the Gecko-engine for rendering, but will probably feature WebKit - http://live.gnome.org/Epiphany/WebKit - soon. WebKit would probably do a better job than Gecko.

Just a heads-up.

Organize a web-based Debian Recognition/Appreciation Day every year. Doesn't have to be anything formal, but the Debian maintainers are a key factor to the huge success Ubuntu is experiencing these days and they deserve the props.

The main advantage of windows system and software over linux is that there is usually no need to configure anything. You install it - it works. Without reading pages and pages of docs and writing strings and strings in config file. Works out of the box. This is a very important feature for any user-friendly desktop oriented system, and this way it's a very important feature of Ubuntu itself.
