More than one synaptic running
Written by alpikat the 16 Apr 08 at 13:20. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New

Hello, long since used ubuntu and one thing I was always angry, we can only run a synaptic at the same time, I can not be in add / remove programs and installing something in a terminal with apt-get at the same time. My idea is to run more than one synaptic at the same time.

convert music to FREE format!!
Written by adrian2 the 8 Apr 08 at 07:11. Category: Multimedia. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Fir's off i'll start with a comment in (brackets), whenever i have the live cd in i can't play a damn thing... especially with all the mp3's i have. Isn't AAC completly free? Why not make like a little plug in for those of us that want theyr music in AAC or other free formats. It would be nice one day to look for a favorite song online and find only AAC!
So my ideea is this:
build some kind of software, or plug-in for a software that people can use to convert theyr music to a free format, or for faster processors why not even convert a song and keep it in RAM or cache and delete when i'm done listening!
Furthermore i'm talking automation... the option to convert all files in a dir, or the entire drive to a free format, even warn the user about formats that are not free so we can convert more!

Hardy Heron must me released in June 2008 because of Firefox 3.0
Written by JoeLeKiffeur the 3 Apr 08 at 20:35. Category: Others. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
(Sorry for my bad English)

I know, it's a very important decision, but if Ubuntu will support Firefox 3.0, the Mozilla's browser must be STABLE.
Firefox 3.0 is planned to be released in June, that's why I ask to report the version of the new LTS release.

Please consider this idea seriously.

Thank you.

Make Amarok the default music player and ditch Rhythmbox
Rhythmbox "skips" while playing when

Amarok is an amazing and pretty (read sexy) jukebox. From its ability to generate automatic playlists, to its integrated support for Shoutcast, to its recursive scanning of music directories, and its themability, it's an all-around awesome music player.
Rhythmbox, on the other hand, is clumpy, buggy and has far less built-in features. Not to mention, at any time it will randomly not play files or Shoutcast stations that I have manually added (by necessity, for lack of integration).
And all the scripts you can add to improve Amarok's functionality are just icing on the cake!

The last version of Firefox 3 should be pre-installed in Hardy Heron.

New install method
Written by yoman82 the 25 Mar 08 at 15:13. Category: Installation. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Allow people to download a miniscule file (Several MB, tops) burn it as an ISO and follow the normal installation method, except for the fact that it downloads the OS and installs it at the same time, to save time for those with pitiful internet connections whose parents/ other restricting factor prevent them from ordering a CD.

better boot splash/usplash background
Written by oliviacond the 25 Mar 08 at 08:37. Category: Look and Feel. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
ubuntu usplash background is very dull, just dark black.
Why not make it brown or any other suitable color?

Take a look on Fedora and OpenSUSE

placement of yes/no buttons in gnome
Written by KhaaL the 25 Mar 08 at 10:25. Category: Look and Feel. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
When you're represented with a yes / no / cancel buttons in KDE, it's presented as:

Yes, no, cancel.

In windows these buttons are displayed in the same order as KDE.

In gnome, the placement is no, cancel, yes.

Now this is *quite* confusing for those who're used to diffrent placement, not to mention the times they'll press the wrong buttons by old habit. I suggest to offer a choice to the users of which placement they'd rather have.

sudo alias for certain -obvious- commands
Written by hagnf the 23 Mar 08 at 11:05. Category: Accessibility. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
I'd like to see some aliasses added to the shell of users which are in the 'admin' group.

Prime examples:
alias apt-get="sudo apt-get"
alias aptitude="sudo aptitude"

Make people aware brainstorm isn't for bug reporting
Written by YSH the 15 Mar 08 at 16:06. Category: Brainstorm. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Many ideas on brainstorm are just bugs, and brainstorm is not for bugs, its for ideas. If you got a bug, go to launchpad. Obviously not everyone new to ubuntu knows that, so they post it here as an idea. There should be some warning, most likely when you're submitting a new idea, that that's the way it is.

GUI FOR ALL COMMAND LINE CONSOLE
Written by NikUbuUser the 8 Mar 08 at 10:41. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
The age for "line command in console" is end, this operation is very very obsolete. The next step is the most userfriendli GUI for all operation without "command line console".

Handle saved web pages and accompanying folders as one file
Written by nedim the 7 Mar 08 at 16:45. Category: Look and Feel. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
There should be an option in the Nautilus file manager to handle saved web pages and accompanying folders as one file.

For instance, if I save a web page called foo.html in Firefox, there will be a folder named foo_files in the same directory too. That can confuse users or be a source of errors. When the user wants to move or copy that web page on the file system, he must copy/move the aforementioned folder too, or some objects will be missing from the web page, i. e. pictures.

Nautilus should make sure the folder is copied/moved when the page is moved. Even better, it should keep the folder hidden, showing only the web page file icon.

Of course, this should be added as an option, so that the experienced users can customize this behavior.

different types of the OS
Written by ty35 the 7 Mar 08 at 00:13. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
why not try designing a OS for Each Event
e.g one for businesses, one home users and one for servers and each OS type has its own tools for what they are designed for
e.g. businesses OS should have acounting software and networking softare etc.
