Get art.ubuntu.com back up!
Written by neon the 23 Mar 08 at 01:02. Category: Others. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Several wiki articles allude to the fact that there is/was an art.ubuntu.com, and that you can submit art to it. o:

a quick google search tells me it was attacked and is planned for relaunch soon. That was said in November. :/

Could we please get this back up?!

Give a little more love to Edubuntu
Written by neon the 7 Mar 08 at 00:45. Category: Education. Related to: Edubuntu. New
If we're serious about getting schools to switch to Edubuntu, I think we need to move it along a little more. The website still says Happy new year. o-o; We needs some strong features in it to make schools WANT to switch from Windows.

it's so awesome. :] I think it should at the very least be in repos, but I think it'd be awesome if we could include a theme using it as an option in the Appearance dialog.

Team up with Dell (RED) products   forum
Written by neon the 1 Apr 08 at 01:49. Category: Marketing. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
so I noticed on http://www.joinred.com/ that Windows has gotten together with Dell and is offering a (RED) version of Windows.

Why can't we do the same? Or at least have a (RED) version, and maybe charge a $1 (or more if the person so wanted) for it, with all the money going towards (RED)? :D

I think this would be REALLY awesome. It'd probly bring a lot of good attention to Ubuntu. If we could get this started soon, maybe it could be released with 8.04.1?

Ubuntu Portal
Written by neon the 24 Apr 08 at 01:21. Category: Others. Related to: ubuntu.com. New
I keep seeing all these ideas like "Include Program X by default", and it got me thinking. The main opposition to these ideas is it's bloat, and most users won't need them.

So, what if we created a page, maybe portal.ubuntu.com, and have it show popular software, and use apt-url for close to one-click install. Have a section for Games, a HowTo section, Business Apps, etc, and set it as the default homepage in Firefox? Linux Mint does this, and I find it absolutely wonderful, plus the default Firefox homepage isn't the prettiest thing.

I think this will help a lot of people with finding applications and stuff. Gamers could immediately click the Games section, and it could have subcategories, and the most popular, Business users could quickly find applications like Gnucash, which are buried deep in the Add/Remove program.

(original idea marked as a dupe, but it wasn't. >.< #4571)

Fix Random Ideas

Halp.
The "Random ideas" link used to only show ideas I have not voted on yet. I LOVED this. Why was this feature removed, and could we please get it back?

Developer comments
Indeed, this regression was introduced during the update.
This will be corrected during the next update, probably monday. Sorry! :s

Push other projects to adopt a brainstorm
Written by neon the 13 Mar 08 at 04:28. Category: Others. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Okay, this is more for everyone, not just the Developers. x]

I think we should push projects like GNOME, Gimp, and Pidgin to adopt a Brainstorm system, so they could get closer to their users.

I see a lot of ideas on here not related to Ubuntu, but related to other projects. So...yeah. xD

*mutter*...And maybe the Pidgin Devs would finally realize how much we want Voice/Vid support...*/mutter* Heheh. x];

Notifications
Written by neon the 15 May 08 at 05:11. Category: Look and Feel. Related to: Gnome. New
Alright, so half the people say "MOAR NOTIFICATIONZ YA", the other half say "ongz no u stoopid ther annoying".

I propose we do use notifications, but do it tastefully.
Below the Notification area maybe, have a place where a box fades in with a semi-transparent background, states it's message shortly and to the point, and then fades out. If you need more info, a lightbulb will have appeared in the Notification area, where you could click to see the message again, with more info and a "do not show notifications" checkbox (which could be undone in preferences somewhere).

Non-intrusive, but informative. Not huge yellow popups that annoy you and show up in the wrong place half the time.

Possibly, they could be white or another color depending on whether it's a notification or a choice (e.g. Use restricted drivers?).

I think this would solve a lot of issues, and if we could make all our apps use it, it would be very useful.

Video / Music management
Written by neon the 22 May 08 at 19:00. Category: Multimedia. Related to: Gnome. New
Once we get a good Video manager, I think it'd be nice to have Rhythmbox / Exaile / etc. auto-arrange music like Amarok, according to defined places, and have the Video manager do the same (only in the Video folder).

Then, When Rhythmbox detects a video of the same name, have a "View Music Video" menu option of button, and have it switch to the Video manager.

And vice-versa, have the video player have a Listen button which switches to the Music player.

Make a link in the home folder to /media
Written by neon the 17 Mar 08 at 03:29. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Alright, so when you look at the debates about cleaning up the file system, one thing that always comes up is "The average user shouldn't have to navigate out of the Home folder". So, why shouldn't we have /media linked in the Home folder as Devices or something? Or would that not work, being as /media is owned by root and all? =/

Top voters

Have a page with the people who have voted the most ideas on that particular day. :]

I think that'd be cool. xD
