autoremove should remove ALL needless librarys
Written by natureflow the 19 Mar 08 at 09:14. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
sudo apt-get autoremove should remove ALL needless librarys.
You can also use deborphan for this, but it would be better if deborphan would be integrated in apt-get.

ONE standard for themes
Written by natureflow the 15 Apr 08 at 19:44. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
There should be ONE standard for Desktop Themes. One Standard, which specific SVG-Graphics and Colors. Work with Freedesktop to do this. Store the themes in XDG_THEMES_DIR and create an standard to set the used theme and the additional color-Informations. So any Toolkit (GTK+, QT, libxul,...) could use this theme. It is really possible. We want unified desktop experience!

Show always an error message if something does not work
Written by natureflow the 8 Aug 08 at 11:19. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
I propose a new usability guideline:

* Show always an error message if something does not work

Backends must bequeath error messages to their frontends. (Exception handling)
Also error messages should be translated to other languages.

If I connect my computer with the network, it doesn't work and I don't know why, I'm disappointed. If I want to start an application and it doesn't, I'll want see the reason.

If someone tells me "I can't start my application", I want to know the reason to help this person.

Easy error messages like "You hadn't connect your computer with a network" or "This application isn't anymore installed" do help any user too. For difficult problems ("Your hardware with ID x is defect. Technical Notes:") you can call someone, who can read your error message.

There should be a option to send software errors to a bug database (launchpad). (e.g. syntax errors in python application, error in communication between frontend and backend can only be a bug and no user blame)

Another example: "No plugins found" in Quod Libet. Why?

Install additional drivers with ubiquity
Written by natureflow the 16 Apr 08 at 10:30. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Ubiquity should detect the hardware automatically and ask me to install for example nvidia driver. I do not want to install this driver after reboot and then reboot again.

apt-get repair
Written by natureflow the 28 Apr 08 at 12:51. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
I propose this feature:
apt-get repair [pkg1 ...]

If a run this command:
sudo apt-get repair
apt-get will download the list of file names and md5-summs of all packages. If one file is missing or incorrect apt-get will ask me to download the package and reinstall it.

What is this command for?
If I modified a file of one or more packages, I can easily reset my system. An easy comand for this is still missing.

bug
Written by natureflow the 16 Mar 08 at 10:51. Category: Look and Feel. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
When I login to my Desktop, the panel is "blinking". :-( I want a clear build-up: First may a nice Splash screen, then the background, than the panel, the Icons, etc. It should be nice feeling. Do you understand me? Please show me a movie of a great ubuntu login without "blinking" and so one.

If I logout, I do not want to see a white text on a black background only for a bit of time. I want to see a nice logut animation. Please show me a movie of a nice logout with ubuntu.

I mean: NO extra startup movie clips on startup, but a clear build-up!

Automatic Network printer detection
Written by natureflow the 4 May 08 at 15:39. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
It should be possible to detect IPP printer, JetDirect printer and smb printer automatically. You can use Avahi for this.

I don't like system-config-printer by Red Had which is in Ubuntu 8.04. It can't detect network printer automatically.

Allow signing for Personal Package Archives (PPA). APT does not use SSL, so there is no security. Someone could send your a modified package. I want to know if the package is really from this person I trust.
