Ubuntu Site should have better/more descriptions of bundled software
Written by motang the 29 Feb 08 at 19:52. Category: Others. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Well I would like see better description of bundled software on Ubuntu.com. Why? Well that is where an average user would go, now if I would like to learn a bit more on lets say Safari web browser, well Apple has a good webpage for that, also on Apple's site they have it where I can search for software such as Firefox and link to downloading it.

Have TimeVault installed by default
Written by motang the 17 Apr 08 at 19:35. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Now I know there are couple of TimeVault BrainStorm ideas, one is improve the interface (http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/3282/) and the other is to improve it (http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/5781/). I like both of them, but what my idea is, is to have TimeVault installed by default and have the user setup it up when they want to. This would be a good point to make to the user that you can backup your files in a timely manner and with a very good powerful tool, similar to what Apple has done with Leopard and TimeMachine.

Savage: The Battle for Newerth
Written by motang the 1 Jul 08 at 20:02. Category: Gaming. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
How about adding Savage: The Battle for Newerth into the repos, it's a freeware game not open source. In the similar fashion we get Adobe Flash we can also check mark the box to install this 3D game if we have the proper drives installed.

Mugshot program   forum
Written by motang the 24 Jun 08 at 21:56. Category: Others. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
I was wondering if Ubuntu developers would add Mugshot program into the repos so that users can just install it from Add and Remove. I added the link to Ubuntu forums thread (which is about 2 years old).

Nautilus Actions
Written by motang the 14 Apr 08 at 22:03. Category: Accessibility. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
I would like to see an "Actions" menu underneath or above the current Tree that is in the Nautilus window. Right now we have choice of Places and other things that can be displayed on the left side of a window (http://shots.osdir.com/slideshows/833/11.gif). It would be nice to have this type of choices also (http://shots.osdir.com/slideshows/835/5.gif) along with the current Places and other tings. Makes certain actions easy and makes Nautilus more attractive and modern. Thanks.

Spicebird
Written by motang the 8 Aug 08 at 21:22. Category: Office. Related to: Nothing/Others. Not an idea
How about adding Spicebird (http://www.spicebird.com/) to the repos, I know it's 0.4 beta right now, but the repos have Sunbird and Spicebird would be very good addition as it is very nice integration for Thunderbird, Sunbird, and GTalk.

Linking Yelp into Ubuntu Wiki
Written by motang the 31 Oct 08 at 00:22. Category: Documentation. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Wouldn't it be nice to have Yelp be linked to Ubuntu Wiki? Ok, so lets say I would like to learn a bit about Gnome-Do. I launch Help and search for Gnome-Do but I get a man page on it and that man page isn't completed yet. In the search result it would nice if there was link for the Wiki page on Gnome-Do and that link would open within the Help window and the user can learn about Gnome-Do.

Xubuntu Compiz
Written by motang the 12 Sep 08 at 13:59. Category: Look and Feel. Related to: Xubuntu. New
I noticed both Kubuntu and Ubuntu have option to turn on Compiz with a click of the mouse button. I know I can add Compiz on Xubuntu via Synaptic but I think it would be nice if there were something similar included out of the box. Linux Mint Xfce CE came out and they have this feature built in.

Adding Giver into Ubuntu 9.04
Written by motang the 26 Dec 08 at 16:46. Category: Accessibility. Related to: Nothing/Others. Not an idea
There is little program that can be used to quickly share files within a local network called Giver that would be ideal for Ubuntu, as it is easy to use.

Add Opera web browser in to the repos   forum
Written by motang the 19 Aug 08 at 14:34. Category: Accessibility. Related to: Add/Remove program dialog. New
Now I know there has been a brainstorm idea suggesting to put Opera 9.5 into the repos but that was before 9.5 was out. At one point Ubuntu had Opera web browser in it's repos I think it was like a year or year and a half ago. But now it's not in the repos...considering Ubuntu 8.04.1 is an LTS it would be nice if this program was added to the repos as I am a web developer and I like to test my site that I code for on all three major rendering engines.

I also know I can just go to Opera's web site and download the program but by adding it to the repos that will eliminate that step. One of the reason I like Ubuntu over Win XP is almost all the programs I use are just click away in Add and Remove, unlike in Windows I have to go the appropriate site and download the .exe file. ;-)

Give a small window choice when media is inserted
Written by motang the 29 Feb 08 at 19:22. Category: Others. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
I would like to see a small windows popup when I insert a media (USB thumb drive, CD/DVD disk, Zip disk, etc.). For instance, if I put in a DVD that is loaded with movie files, then instead of seeing Nautilus windows popup, I would like to see a little window popup that would give me a choice of weather to open the DVD with Nautilus, open the media files in Movie Player and any other media player that is appropriate for it. Or if I plug in my USB thumb drive, then that little window would have OpenOffice a choice for document files, GEdit for my programming files, Banshee for MP3 files, FSPot or another photo manager for pictures, etc. Also another good example is if I put in a DVD movie in the DVD drive then the window can ask me if I would like to start playing that DVD in movie player or VNC (if it's installed on my system). This is similar to whats done in Windows XP's autorun and Mandriva 2007 does it also. I think this adds to the usability.

Parental Control with MintNanny
Written by motang the 8 Oct 08 at 12:25. Category: Security. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
One of the key things Ubuntu is missing is Parental Control. Now Linux Mint has something like that called MintNanny ( http://www.linuxmint.com/blog/?p=350 ). What a great idea, it is a little program that lets the parent block domain name, but I am more than sure it will grow with other features as time goes on. This would be a great addition in Ubuntu.

3D Chess
Written by motang the 1 Aug 08 at 21:22. Category: Gaming. Related to: Chess (Gnome). New
I think if you have compiz-fusion installed then the 3D chess games should be installed by default. I have compiz-fusion on both my desktop and notebook computers but the in the chess game when I choose 3D chess I have to install couple more python packages. I know it's not a hard thing to do but for new users it wold be nice as a default when they have the compiz-fusion working on their system.

Have Screenlets installed by default
Written by motang the 22 Apr 08 at 22:44. Category: Look and Feel. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
I would to see Screenlets (http://www.screenlets.org/index.php/Home) installed in Ubuntu by default. Why, you ask? just an eye candy, especially with the widget layer enabled in compiz-fusion and the user press F9 (or any other button the user wants) and the widgets that you have chosen popin on your desktop. Of course it would be marketing point. :-)
