My desktop computer often suffers from severe loss of performance. This is most often due one of the following:
* software raid syncs and checks
* cron jobs, updatedb
* zombie processes, eating up my cpu
* applications using too much swap
I would like a way to control these tasks, kill processes before the kernel goes oom killer on my session.
I'd like to cancel raid checks and postpone syncs, tell the updatedb service to come back later.
I really like the new (0.6.4) tracker tray icon, but maybe something could be done for the whole desktop.
There should be some architecture in the desktop to give performance control to the user combined with a simple interface.
