Include RubyOnRails into LiveCD will provide a chance to learn a excellent programming language on great OS (just boot on CD)
Ruby on Rails is a breakthrough in lowering the barriers of entry to programming.Powerful web applications that formerly might have taken weeks or months to develop can be produced in a matter of days.

Remove Xubuntu as obsoleted

According to my tests Xubuntu is now slower than Ubuntu. In the newest version(gutsy and hardy) Gnome has reached the lightness of Xfce and it's now even faster. In the addition it's very hard to do things with Xubuntu.
No one should use Xubuntu anymore. It's old, it's not good. Xubuntu should be removed from the official Ubuntu variations as obsoleted.

Ease putting applications into ubuntu resposity even if closed source

Canonical should cooperate with developers in every way possible in order to get as many applications as possible in the ubuntu repository. The amount of applications that exists for a platform is among the #1 reasons for why people might choose it.
Why is for example not opera in ubuntu repository? It is a great web browser, it is not open source but I think that every application possible should be working as smooth as possible on ubuntu and this should include installing as well.
In order to increase user base and have a chance to compete with windows market share I think something could be done about the amount of applications available and the ease of installing those.

Be able to hide folders without adding dot so applications can still access them

To hide a folder, you need to add a period (.) at the beginning of the name of the folder. This is not a huge problem because it is very easy to do and much more intuitive than going into Properties > General > Hidden > Apply > Ok. However, when you add this dot, most applications cannot find this folder. Therefore, you end up with a broken application that most people will not know how to fix. I suggest making an easier way to hide folders (via right click) that still allows applications to access them just fine while the user cannot see them unless they press Ctrl + H. Or, another suggestion would be to make it so .themes and themes are the same thing, but .themes is hidden from the user. Make it so the period does not effect the file name if it is placed at the beginning.
So what do you say to one of these ideas (or suggest your own solution)?

I don't understand why pressing the "print screen" button is still doing nothing. Pressing this button is supposed to create a screen capture! and more importantly, this button is build in almost every single keyboard! Please use this valuable resource and actually make it function.

Install conduit by default

Conduit is a synchronization application for GNOME. It allows you to synchronize your files, photos, emails, contacts, notes, calendar data and any other type of personal information and synchronize that data with another computer, an online service, or even another electronic device.
Conduit manages the synchronization and conversion of data into other formats. For example, Conduit allows you to;
* Synchronize your Tomboy notes with another computer
* Synchronize your your PIM data to your mobile phone, iPod, Nokia Internet tablet, or between computers
* Upload photos to Flickr, Picasa, SmugMug, ShutterFly and your iPod,
* ... and many more
Any combination you can imagine, Conduit will take care of the conversion and synchronization.

Why not? (at least on the desktop edition of ubuntu)
-"Non-Experts" don't have to worry about updates, every new day brings new updates and there is no point for the user to be always doing the same
-Warning about updates all the time don't make people more aware that security is important, they may even think it is a annoying thing...
-Won't make the user loose time
-Will make the user safer
-Will show to people that Linux cares about security, which is true
-All other major OSes already do it
-Security must be a priority, not something "extra"...
Sure, it may have some disadvantages, but people would still be able to disable it...
[edit] Of course this would be voted down, "techies" just want to control all the stuff, but it was a smart move from Canonical to do this... We see too many compromised machines on the internet which would have been safe if the latest updates where installed in a timely way... it was better to everybody...

Add "Show this file" to "File" menu of document-oriented apps

Very simple idea.
Add to GEdit, Evince, Gimp, OOO apps and other applications that works mostly with local files the single menu item - "Show this file", which opens Nautilus window with current file focused. It could reuse the already opened window of this directory.

Create a TextMate clone for Ubuntu. A text editor used for programming.
Features to include;
* Tabs
* Macros
* Code folding
* Code snippets
* Shell integration
* Syntax highlighting
* Nested scopes
* Regular-expression–based search and replace
TextMate is one of those Mac OS X killerapps that many people who migrate to Linux miss.

Maybe you know Microsoft's Visual Studio, a very nice program especially for programmer beginners.
We should clone this program (or make a similiar) to write Linux GTK/Qt apps with it.
I know this is a big work, but it's worth it I think.

Replace GUI control center for settings by web interface

Instead of the 'usual' requests to have a central control panel, implement this as a web interface.
(Default it to localhost access only?)
This way a system admin would only need to allow a certain group of IP adresses to be able to remotely change system settings.
Main benefits:
- one single configuration mechanism to maintain
- Most home and office systems are being used by people who don't know the first thing about linux, so instead of having a system administrator come over or use VPN, just access the control panel as if you were working on the (gnome) desktop itself
Downsides: requires browser & webserver on local PC, instead of a control panel program.

(Sorry for my bad English)
I know, it's a very important decision, but if Ubuntu will support Firefox 3.0, the Mozilla's browser must be STABLE.
Firefox 3.0 is planned to be released in June, that's why I ask to report the version of the new LTS release.
Please consider this idea seriously.
Thank you.

This question is really unless for an installer. It`s about privacy. People switch from windows to linux because them hope that there is no phone home. Why should an operating system ask for the real name them are thinking.
There is no real need to brand the operating system with this information. The user can enter his name in programs he really want to itself.
