Make Wine 1.0 available in Hardy (through hardy-updates). This makes it easier for some companies who depend on XP software (which already works well in wine) to make the transition to Ubuntu.

IMHO it would be nice to release wine 1.0 through hardy-updates so everyone who hasn't disabled hardy-updates will get it. The wine 1.0 branch will probably continue to receive important updates making it easier for Ubuntu to maintain.

According to Eric S. Raymond's "World Domination 201" Wine is very important for Linux to become successful on the desktop.

Wine 1.0 will release on june 6th. Hardy will release on june 5th. This makes it impossible to include wine 1.0 in Hardy except through hardy-backports or hardy-updates.

The last version of Firefox 3 should be pre-installed in Hardy Heron.

Rhythmbox comes with podcast functionality but no podcasts by default.

I propose we add some Ubuntu podcasts, or some Linux podcasts. Like LugRadio or something.

So people who don't know what a podcast is, can use it as an example, to learn what it is.

This would integrate Ubuntu users with the fantastic Ubuntu community, so that they can feel that they're part of it.
A strong, healthy, vibrant community.

So they can feel the Ubuntu love. The warmth of the embrace of Ubuntu.

The podcasts could also educate them about Linux and Ubuntu.

I guess everybody has experienced the rather long boot up times in Ubuntu (particularly with laptops). I know they are already working on it, but the change from feisty to gutsy was a pain in the ass in terms of boot up speed.
A default WinXP installation beats Ubuntu's boot up time by far!! That shouldn't be allowed fellas!!

I therefore propose to the development team (both Ubuntu and by extension Gnome)to work on the improvement of boot up times in Ubuntu systems.

Add option for periodical automatic changes of the desktop background.

Right now we have a menu item for "new" when we right click on the desktop, but we don't have any items. Can't we include some things there? Like templates for Openoffice or many other programs we use in ubuntu.

Please add removable drives to "Send to..." section.

If you navigate to a folder

eg. /media/pics

Then do a search it doesn't search for items in the folder and sub-directories below, but it is just using tracker's indexed files.

Which is ridiculous if not stupid. Even Windows XP search is not this useless.

Is there a way to separate these two functions (tracker & nautilus) , if I navigate to a folder and then do a search all I want is results with in the folder.

With this Tracker search you can't expect us to index our root folder.

Also if you search for a general term like you .jpg you will get a zillion results. While with the old search it was specific to a folder.

I don't know if many of the developers have worked in a non IT work environment.
Because in these environments the Project folder and filenames are often used to differentiate files, not the contents as most companies use templates.

It would also be silly to expect one to index the data from all the company's projects, as the number of files is so vast.

The old Nautilus (6.10) used to do this beautifully.

With Ubuntu on Dell machines in the USA, I'm sure this means better boot times, hardware integration, sound, network are all nice and good.

Ubuntu should really be pitching to be the default install (an option for the customer) on as many PCs as possible.

Add hardware more support (drivers). Not only for new hardware, of course this should be priority, but also for older hardware.

I use evolution, however when i need to look at a calendar i have to use sunbird. This is because evolution is basically stagnent, and does not support modifying web calendars hosted outside of the local server. i know there are a few work arounds for getting it to work, but i would really love to have a simple calendar program built into gnome/ubuntu(default) which links between the desktop clock (evolution calendar display) and a web based calendar, which supports bi-direction changes and updates.

I don't like having to open sunbird each time i need to change an alarm.

IMHO, it would be great if some Nautilus Scripts (like image resizing, sound normalization, etc) were included by default in Ubuntu

It's annoying when you've become in love with Ubuntu, but realize your Laptop functions don't all work properly.
Backlighting, Power Management, the Function Buttons, etc..

Ubuntu already has a "Send To" dialog when you right click an item, but its only to send it to things like e-mail, it would be cool if you could put all of our "bookmarked locations" in that menu, so we can move files from our desktop or other folders quickly into our Documents, Music, Pictures, etc...

Have a tutorial obviously available from the command line that hits the highlights of things that you might want to do, especially as a new user. This is for the situation where a new user, familiar only with the GUI, ends up on the command line perhaps because something went wrong. I'd like to see something that users would stumble into, maybe something that comes up if you enter a few invalid commands. You shouldn't have to 'just know' some command to get this option.

The current 'help' command is not a tutorial, and is not very friendly. When you type help from the command line, many of the commands scroll off the top of the screen. Nor are man pages a tutorial - help and man are both references for people who already can get around a bit on the command line.

If Ubuntu wants to be a serious operating system they need to fix video playing on sites like Youtube and such. My browser always crashes and it is very annoying having to force quit all the time.

Until now it's only possible to read SD cards on multi-card-readers, like ricoh, that are integrated on most laptops on this days. And difficult the wireless options that this cards readers provide.

Open Office needs to come preloaded with the better dictionary and thesauras plus and easy graphical interface for adding the extensions that are available from Sun's site. This interface needs to be idiot proof or the Windows users will not move.

A GUI for creating and using encrypted partitions. Should be for regular partitions and especially removable media partitions.

On startup Ubuntu will sometimes say the disk "has been mounted x times without being checked, check forced". Then it will make me wait to use the computer. Why not do this at shutdown instead of startup? When the user starts up the computer, they're sending a message to Ubuntu saying "I want to use my computer now." Not later. When they shut down, they're telling Ubuntu "I don't want to use my computer now." Do it then.
