my idea is to have the possibility to have programs like ITUNES or SAFARI in ubuntu! create some alternatives to firefox or so.... :) i mean... firefox is awesome but.... someone would just prefere safari.

average person needs wizards across the board...

get rid of this package manager crap and make it easy with a installer wizard.
i had a look at a few pages and didnt see this on the list and its so important to linux being successfull.... why is it so hard to make linux user friendly?

help wizards for all is my call...

The 'rm' command, typed at the terminal, is dangerous and irreversible. Instead of deleting files immediately, 'rm' should send files to the Trash. This would be useful in cases where users might type something like 'rm -r temp *', when 'rm -r temp\ *' is intended. (Warning: Do not try those commands. I include them here for illustrative purposes only.)

Ok so im not sure if this is the right place for this..but im just thinking out loud.

a device that will let your torrents downloading but yu can switch off your pc! torrents carry on downloading. External USB hard drives are available freely these days. So maybe something in buntu that will let the juice flow from the USB to the hard drive after the pc has been switched off.

Maybe an option in the shutdown menu..."torrents"...which shuts down everything else but gives the cpu like 3% power consumption compared to normal...

...oh and this has "green" written all over it!

I know, it's a very important decision, but if Ubuntu will support Firefox 3.0, the Mozilla's browser must be STABLE.
Firefox 3.0 is planned to be released in June, that's why I ask to report the version of the new LTS release.

Please consider this idea seriously.

The Gnome team is not in touch with the average user. They take the "tried and true" route on the development patch. KDE is far too bloated and unstable. Usability had not improved and easy of use remains stagnant on both end. Ubuntu seeks to make linux for human beings, but constantly relies on outside projects to provide that functionality. We need a middle ground interface that is powerful, element, and useful. I want to see new ideas and interfaces, not recycled ones. Gnome is Desktop 1.0 and its time to move the interface forward.

How about offering a commercial pay-for version of Ubuntu in addition to the regular versions? This could be a download option and a shippit offering. It could include the following:
1. Licensed codecs from fluendo or others.
2. An Ubuntu flavour of Crossover-Office / Cedega
3. Introductory support from Canonical

I think this would serve at least 3 purposes. Firstly it would be useful for people to feel comfortable using proprietary codecs in certain countries where this is a problem. Secondly, some people would be more likely to adopt linux/ubuntu if they have to pay for it.Psychologically the idea that something is better because it costs more is a very real phenomenon. Thirdly, I see this as a good way for Ubuntu/Canonical to generate funds and (gasp!)profits. I believe this is important for Ubuntu's medium-term success and is very important in tackling Bug #1. The introductory support offer would be a good way of establishing long-term support relationships with clients.By the way are any of my above ideas in violation of the GPL, I'm not sure...

So i asked me why so many Windows Users dont use Linux.

1: They cant use any Hardware they buy in stores
2: They dont have so many Software like under Windows
3: The Comercial Software is "sometimes" better
4: There exists no Software they need under Linux (CAD, Webdesign)
5: There are to many different Distrubutions
6: Software they buy in Shops doesnt work under Linux
7: The change from Windows to Kubuntu is very hard for them because of the control
Many simple thinks doesnt work under Kubuntu

for example:
There are no letter for the Hard Drives
The Windows key on the keyboard doesnt work
The Shortcuts are different
There is no Windows Installer

Maybe there Shoud be a small Tutorial with the first steps under Kubuntu for new Users and may there shoud be a list with alernative Software

Microsoft Office -> Open Office
Adobe Photoshop -> Gimp
Internet Explorer -> Firefox
and so on

Just an Idea. Maybe you could develop a program called SwitchOS which allows users to switch between different OS's seamlessly. For example, you could have Fedora, Ubuntu and Standard Linux on a PC. When you boot into Ubuntu (Which would share the software between the OS's) or any of the other ones there will be, on the programs menu under 'Utilities', SwitchOS. When you boot the software would, in the background, start all of the OS's so you can switch! Basically like your Desktop Switching but with OS's!

A Reply to Eldmannen's comment: Standard Linux is basically Red Hat and stuff like that! It is not lets say Fedora or Debian!

I wish to be able to hide directorys and files without actually adding the dot (.) in front of their filenames.

Windows games are more and more new and i think everyone likes to play a game thats is on windows because that they have wine but not all windows games works under wine they install the game then they run the game and we got a crash on some games so i think ubuntu theam and wine theam shoud make wine a better compatibele emulators with the new games especialy with the online games so for the sake of the gamers pls do something

Nobody use Gobuntu
It costs too much money, time and developers, who better can move to the other versions of Ubuntu.

I tried several versions of linux software and they all screamed that it did the same as windows.
I stopped using them for one very important reason: they all worked in there conservative non-tolerant linux way.
The day it works like windows I will use it.
-I want to install programs like windows
-I want tot use the filemanager like windows
-I want program names with normal names and not cryptic linuxnames only meant for linux insiders.
-I want the windows-like interface and all the things I usually do with windows.

Every windows user wants to work like he or she did with windows.
If Ubuntu does this, all these people will go and work with Ubuntu
Until then : nada
I just don't understand why nobody in the Linux world does see this what every windows user knows.
To me it feels that nobody in linux world wants to see this fact.
Very very strange.
Make it like windows and everyone will adopt Ubuntu

I firmly believe there is no reason why Ubuntu can't work together with a company like Apple. I would love to see some of apple's proprietary software ported to Linux. A more user friendly way of accessing Apple hardware would be nice too. The idea behind such a merger would be the idea of kicking Microsoft when it's down. With how poorly Vista is doing, now is the time to team up with all of Microsoft's rivals and kick Microsoft off it's high horse.
