1 Button Ubuntu Iso backup
Written by rahduke the 26 Mar 08 at 02:07. Category: Installation. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
I'd like a way to backup my entire system with all the settings and packages to a bootable ISO file. So that I can re-install or install on other computers.

Create a "How Can I Help?" site
Written by webhamster the 29 Mar 08 at 08:54. Category: Marketing. Related to: Nothing/Others. In development
I think, a lot of people like to help with ubuntu development, but they don't know where to start. This includes not only programmers but also designers, music composers or just the normal ubuntu user.

So how about creating a website "howcanihelp.ubuntu.com" where everyone (except for C/C++ programmers ;-) ) can find out how to contribute?

Examples:
PHP Programmer -> help with Brainstorm Development, someproject.ubuntu.com needs a new Website, ...
Music Composer -> (don't know where this should link)
Graphic Artist -> https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork
Foreign Language Native Speaker -> Translate Subtitles at screencasts.ubuntu.com,...
Beginner Ubuntu User -> (don't know if we find something for them :-) )
Advanced Ubuntu User -> Help people at IRC #ubuntu, https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WikiToDo, join the Documentation Team...
Marketing Expert -> ...

and so on!

And this project is also supported by big company as google, ati, dell ...so why not by ubuntu ?

And it will be also a good marketing event for ubuntu!

Too often I have to select images with cryptic file names from a file chooser. Because I can't see the images I typically have to open the folder I am browsing separately so I can find image I am looking for, remember the cryptic name, and return to the file dialogue to select the file I want.

This could be easier if their was an option to view thumbnails, or to at least preview the image.

Developer comments
File preview is now in Hardy.

Make Drag&Drop possible everywhere in GNOME
Written by droetker the 25 Mar 08 at 21:19. Category: Accessibility. Related to: Gnome. New
Drag&Drop is such a intuitive and simple action - it must be promoted.
There are many things that already work in Ubuntu/GNOME/KDE with Drag&Drop, but there is much that can be improved:

- DnD an image from Firefox to the Desktop should place that image there, not a textfile with the link to the homepage.
- DnD from the icon on the left side of the URL in the Firefox address bar to the desktop should create a .desktop file with a link to that URL.
- DnD of devices onto the Pastebin should unmount them (like OSX)
- DnD of a Desktop file into a mainmenu/submenu of GNOME should create a menu item.
- fix the Nautilus-in-list-view-doesn't-accept-DnD-files issue: Launchpad bug #61237
- DnD file from anywhere (e.g. Desktop) to a folder in the "file open" "file save" dialogs.
- DnD a file into an edit box should insert a file:// link - KDE has this; Idea #3027
from Idea #4105:
- DnD Attachement from Thunderbird to Nautilus
- DnD Files From File-Roller to Nautilus
- DnD Picture from Nautilus to OOo

...and many more, please submit your ideas, I'll put them into the description!

Give a discription as to what a terminal is.
Written by Cheesecake the 29 Mar 08 at 11:05. Category: Accessibility. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
When you press ctrl alt f1 ect you get a terminal indepenant of X and is wonderfull if you know what your doing, but say my mum accadentally presses ctrl alt f1. Not knowing really what she is doing or the cat lands on the keyboard and puts it into a terminal. She would think the computer is broken and be very confused on how to fix it I think we should put a discription as to what it is and how to get back to X

Easy config for wine and xen and vmware etc....
Written by mathis94 the 10 Mar 08 at 13:21. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
I have a lot of softwares who dont work with ubuntu and the softwares like wine, xen, vmware are complex to use, configure and install for a beginner !

So it will be nice if we have, in a simple interface, some fields to put our serial and the software who will configurate and install automaticaly themselves!

For example :

- I want to run photoshop :
i put my serial photoshop : 11111-22222-33333-444444
Ubuntu check if its a good serial and install and configure my photoshop on my desktop with wine!

- I want to run windows
i put my serial photoshop : 11111-22222-33333-444444
Ubuntu check if its a good serial and install and configure my windows on my desktop with xen or vmware !

PS : sorry for my english
