Synaptic Saves DEBs into Separate Folders
Written by malsasa the 23 Feb 13 at 08:57. Related project: Synaptic package manager. Already implemented
Synaptic or Ubuntu Software Center saves all debs into /var/cache/apt/archives (one folder for all debs). All apps included dependencies saved in a folder. So, how a new user can easily recognize these DEBs are for Netbeans, these for Eclipse, and these for another?

If user can distinguish easily some DEBs are exactly for an apps installation, they can bring them just in one folder to install into another PC(s) they have. If not, they must download them again and again in every PC (bandwidth comsuming).

But fortunately, APT and Software Center can do it easily for user :)

Solution #1: Add "Save DEBs Into Folder" Feature into Synaptic/Software Center
Written by malsasa the 23 Feb 13 at 08:57.
It is useful if an user can just click File > Save Selected into Folder for package they have installed before. DEBs taken from cache, Synaptic tracks the dependencies, and then save it into a folder given.

In example, I have installed Netbeans. Surely all DEBs in /var/cache/apt/archives/ beside another app' DEBs. But I wanna install Netbeans too in 10 PCs with same version of Ubuntu. So, enough with File > Save Selected (Netbeans, already installed) and save them in /home/Netbeans. So, just copy the folder (no download again) into 10 PC and just do sudo dpkg -i *.deb. It is very efficient in bandwidth.

I know there is Keryx or another system can do similiar thing. But if this feature included in Synaptic/Software Center, it simplifies so many problems. It reduces complexity than I should download same package again. And I can help my friends who don't have internet connection.

*) "keep all package downloaded" option has to be selected to enable this feature

Ubuntu Need Desktop Search Engine
Written by malsasa the 1 May 12 at 11:42. Related project: Unity. New
Unity has HUD and a smart engine to find commands. And i think Ubuntu need dekstop search engine by default such as Kerry Beagle, tracker, Google Desktop Search, Nepomuk, and etc. for company Unity as a new desktop environment.

Unity needs it, i think. And everybody will be happy if they could find a document contains their name from 1 million document in desktop he forget about its filename. It will be a new innovation after Unity. i think.

And it will be advanced if the new Unity Desktop Search (or Ubuntu Desktop Search) can index files such as PDF, ODT, PNG (metadata), MP3 (metadata), HTML, PHP, and provide fast searching like Google Desktop.

Solution #1: Integrate Unity with An New Desktop Search Engine
Written by malsasa the 1 May 12 at 11:42.
Ubuntu need new desktop search engine. Maybe old desktop search Kerry Beagle (abandoned now, cmiiw) source code can be rebuilded for this. Or Ubuntu can use tracker source code as base for this. Or Ubuntu make its own desktop search engine like Ubuntu made Unity.

Yes it will be easy for users to search anything. Just tap ALT and type anything... he will find them.

Ubuntu One Client Should Can Accept Proxy Configuration
Written by malsasa the 25 Mar 12 at 17:35. Related project: Ubuntu One Music Store. Not an idea
Ubuntu One Client in Ubuntu 11.10 can't handle proxy configuration via GUI or global proxy configuration. This problem can disturb Ubuntu users who connected to internet behind a proxy server. So, next Ubuntu should has a UOC which can accept proxy configuration via GUI of global proxy configuration.
