Well,
When I was new to Ubuntu it irritated me A LOT when I accidentally moved to another workspace and didnt really know where all my windows went...
In my opinion this option is not needed BY MOST PEOPLE AT ALL... So I think it should be turned off by default and allow to turn it on as an option.

Why can't we turn off Emerald and come back to the original Window Decorator without having to uninstall it and still keep Compiz-Fusion effects?
I only solve this problem by editing the /usr/bin/compiz file.
# Use emerald by default if it exist
USE_EMERALD="no"
It's a simple solution.

Although there is a nice feature in BrainStorm that allows you to promote the ideas you like through a little bar that links to them, our beloved forums do not allow for those bars to be included in the signature because they disable [IMG] tags, thus making those BB codes unusable.

A standard "Installer" will appeal more people

I believe that a "standard installer package" as in Windows platform which does all the job for you to install any application will appeal more people and make it easy to move from other OS's to Ubuntu. It is really difficult and complicated for a newbie to install application in Ubuntu. For instance, when I first moved to Ubuntu from XP, I wanted to download and use my favorite programs like VLC player, i really didn't know what to do after I downloaded the file. If it was a single "installer" file, all I needed to do was to click it twice and there you go! My friends also complained that "compiling" to install applications is hard to prefer while they have an opportunity to install any file with a couple of clicks.
In my opinion, that would be more appealing for non-Ubuntu users.

I mean? there should be a normal ability to install Ubuntu without LiveCD e.g. from iso or even directory. Generally such ability exists now, but it should be easier and it will be great if there will be appropriate GUI.

Ubuntu Updates... Stop messing with my grubmenu.lst!

I have a dual boot system with one Windows XP hard drive for gaming and another Ubuntu hard drive for everything else.
Upon downloading and installing kernel updates, it always seems to re-write my grubmenu.lst which removes Windows XP from the boot menu. I then have to manually tweak my grubmenu.lst file so it shows up in the list of boot options.
This is annoying and most n00bs wouldn't know how to fix this.

Why Windows Users dont use Kubuntu/Linux
|

So i asked me why so many Windows Users dont use Linux.
1: They cant use any Hardware they buy in stores
2: They dont have so many Software like under Windows
3: The Comercial Software is "sometimes" better
4: There exists no Software they need under Linux (CAD, Webdesign)
5: There are to many different Distrubutions
6: Software they buy in Shops doesnt work under Linux
7: The change from Windows to Kubuntu is very hard for them because of the control
Many simple thinks doesnt work under Kubuntu
for example:
There are no letter for the Hard Drives
The Windows key on the keyboard doesnt work
The Shortcuts are different
There is no Windows Installer
Maybe there Shoud be a small Tutorial with the first steps under Kubuntu for new Users and may there shoud be a list with alernative Software
Microsoft Office -> Open Office
Adobe Photoshop -> Gimp
Internet Explorer -> Firefox
and so on

Like other big distros, Ubuntu should have a menu for the user to choose which programs to install in the computer. This would help Ubuntu be more customizable and satisfy users who like the system to fit exactly their needs. It would save some 'apt-get remove' commands, and become the boot faster, loading only services really used by users.
PS: i don't write very well in english. Sorry for some errors...

Include Automatix or somthing similar by default

Pretty much every new person trying out Ubuntu has been told to get Automatix. For those not in-the-know, Automatix compiles a list of popular software/codecs/etc. that's useful to a new install of Ubuntu. It would be good to include this or something similar to installs of Ubuntu, thus helping out the user with new programs that don't come by default.

Twice now, while installing ubuntu, my MBR has been overwritten. A simple option to not install grub, or to
install to the root partition would be welcome.
For existing multi-boot systems this is a real time killer.
Took me three days to recover first time. Second time was
last night. Haven't recovered all the partitions yet.

Shutdown button is to shutdown

Few times in my life there was need to turn off the computer without the picture (monitor is off).
Many Linux distributions give a simple way to do it — by the power button on the system unit. But Ubuntu doesn't turn off the computer with this button. It just displays the dialog I can't see (no picture).
So the idea is to just turn off the computer with this button. :)
Otherwise we need to do Ctrl + Alt + F1, log in as root and type "shutdown now" (not that easy, especially if we need to turn off the computer urgently).

I know many of you have concerns when it come to mono applications, but hands down, Banshee is the most interesting and most promising jukebox app in the gtk-land. Moreover, Ubuntu ships with f-spot installed by default, which is a mono app, too.
Banshee has a great iPod support, offers a clean and modern interface, is much more visually appealing than rythmbox, and has a more intuitive workflow.

That i want to say is that ubuntu now is coping a lot of things from windows and mac and we need to keep our personality... we don't need visual control for things and newbies must lear for example a simple sudo apt-get install program... it's easy and the visual program is slow... always is slower that run a terminal command....
Look KDE... it's like windows vista! and ubuntu is getting a lot of thing from mac os x and kde too...
Please keep your personality, anb linux persnality... we need run command in terminal... que need get things from other operating system but don't get ugly and silly things... gnome was very fast at first and that is why i get it and not KDE...
Just think about it... why we use linux and choose linux? Why we use ubuntu?

Compiz is getting more and more users because it is often the selling point that wins them over. The new compiz settings in the appearance dialog is nice, but emerald themes belong in there too.
