I recently changed all my fonts in system-> preferences-> appearance to size 8 from 10, and I'm very pleased with the way it relieves ubuntu's tendency to look "fat". Try it and see! I think this might be an acceptable default, or at least some kind of option during install ("which of these sample boxes is readable to you?"). I, for one, wish I would have thought to do this a long time ago, as it's like having a bigger monitor.

Hi,
Sorry but I realised that this idea was rather stupid (I was still in my early brainstorm days).
Please don't vote on this idea anymore.
If brainstorm allowed the users to delete their ridiculous ideas, I would have.

.folder and file names are visible to their full lenght in Gnome and they are not shortened automatically. If there's an option to disable it then tell me and make that option the default one instead.
.whenever deleting a HTML file e.g. "file.html" the corresponding "file_files folder in the same directory doesn't get automatically deleted.
.the deactivation of 'root' a/c in the Gnome is a setback. it's good you thought of security but ultimately the decision should be in the hands of 'user' if he/she wants it or not. or atleast make an amendment so that one can give a normal user powers to bypass those irritating 'always password' scenarios. it's worse than Vista's 'UAC'. there atleast one can disable it.
.do not assume everybody who uses it has got Internet at home. without some initial downloads e.g. MP3 and other media codecs, nVidia driver, even c++(g++). Please include these things on CD.
.start DVD version now with other softwares and codecs. Fedora's DVD is pretty good. If you won't give away them in place of CDs then atleast give it as an alternate download option.
.some softwres you can keep as must on CD/DVD: offline dictionary, c/c++ GUI editor/compiler with all files and libs,
.include images in the 'Help' section like 'how to make a package' or 'install a software from source'. with screenshots keep it like a walkthrough and please include libs or files necessary for such actions in the CD and make them default install.
.A good RedHat feature: they have lots of softwares and they ask you which one to download.
.one more thing and most important:
.keep Ubuntu less geeky. people still FEAR it and they are not wrong. Always keep in mind-most of the people are from Windows. See 'Windows' so atleast initially get things into their minds in the language of Windows. Otherwise they will go back like most of my collegemates(whom I had persuaded to use Ubuntu/Linux.
