adobe flash has become ridiculously slow. it's perverse that i can play a dvd in full screen mode and that uses about 5% of my processor, while as a small flash window on youtube stutters. as well as this, there is of course no 64-bit version, or a version for sparc/powerpc under linux.
the solution is obvious--gnash must be developed. could canonical/ubuntu invest some development time in getting gnash working well? that would be great :)

Won't implement

While both Evolution and Thunderbird are great applications, Thunderbird should become the default email client available on Ubuntu.
Developer comments
There are currently no plans to move away from Evolution at this time.

BRAINSTORM: Option to show/hide ideas you have voted on

I've found two instances of this idea have already been posted, but both of which suggest making this a Search option only.
I would like to see a option on the main page, not just the search page, that says "Hide ideas I've already voted on", and have that option turned *on* by default.
But when I go to the "Search ideas" page that option should be *off* by default.
Typically your main purposes logging in to this site are going to be:
1) to vote (in which case you only care about the stuff you can vote on - e.g. stuff haven't already voted on)
2) post an idea (in which case you should do a search to make sure your idea hasn't already been posted and the search should provide an option to hide/show ideas you've already voted on - to accomodate those with perfect/human memory respectively)
3) search for comments on ideas that are of interest to you (in which case you may only want to see ideas you HAVE voted on, so you don't want a search to filter those out by default)

Use Banshee as the standard music player

I know many of you have concerns when it come to mono applications, but hands down, Banshee is the most interesting and most promising jukebox app in the gtk-land. Moreover, Ubuntu ships with f-spot installed by default, which is a mono app, too.
Banshee has a great iPod support, offers a clean and modern interface, is much more visually appealing than rythmbox, and has a more intuitive workflow.

when i install vim in windows i get "edit with vim" entry in right click menu, very useful for files of "unknown" type when you expect them to be text files, or just want to verify. So i think it would be a good idea to add such entry in right click menu, should look something like "edit with ". I asume it can be done very simply by editing some gnome config file, but it would be good to have this right after installation.

There are two primary media players out there. The iPod and the Zune. The iPod works in Linux. The Zune does not. If the Zune software were able to run in Linux via WINE, then us thousands of Zune owners would be able to get rid of Windows for good.
My idea is a push for Zune software to run in WINE. (Like Google Picasa runs in WINE)
I know this is not directly Ubuntu related, but the Microsoft Zune is a major media player and this will keep Zune owners from moving over to Linux (Ubuntu) as we do not want to brick our $200+ piece of equipment because it's useless if we cannot add/remove media to/from it.

Give Ubuntu it's own calendar

It's great that clicking on the clock brings up a calendar - but why Evolution's calendar?
The majority of people use a webmail service, so having a calendar that can sync with major web calendars (eg Google Calendar, Windows Live Calendar), that is easy to add and remove events to, to add alarms and notifications and to be able to do all of this without opening an email application would be fantastic, I think.
Thanks for the oppurtunity to be heard.

It would be nice to be able to mark an idea for removal such as spam, or mark that a request is already implemented.
It would also be nice to prevent users from creating duplicate ideas. Yes, hard to implement but the way it works on digg.com is fairly good. If the system things your post is a duplicate it shows the other stories before letting you post the idea, so that you can verify that is in fact a new idea.

For business users acceptance to make interface more formal and clear.

Main ideas are:
1) Antilaliasing is good, but absolutely is not enough! For acceptance Ubuntu (and anything else) as business environment it is necessary to rewrite fonts and font rendering mechanism for "clear and shape" representation. Must do for subject understanding: to capture any screen from Windows with fonts and after magnification to see how letters "shape and clear". This is the goal. And after compare image with Ubuntu fonts representation. This is the goal. This clearance and sharpness is the main psychological influencer on user acceptance.
2) Create more formal, shape and official icons. Is possible to describe current common style of Ubuntu as little bit informal and cartoon. It is unacceptable for common business users in general. Of course it is possible to provide formal icons as default theme or something like this.

This is more of a Mozilla Thunderbird issue but I think Ubuntu should push more for better calendering integration using the SDK provide by MS .

Calendaring
Microsoft® Exchange Server 2003 includes rich calendaring features that you can use to build calendaring applications. Collaboration Data Objects (CDO) provides the logic necessary to create applications that incorporate appointments, meetings, messages, and other calendaring items. The topics in this section describe how to use CDO to develop custom calendaring solutions.

Webcam with Pidgin!

Pidgin is a good program to chat on all protocols, but a webcam plugin is still missing.
The developers aren't decided to code webcam support, but having this in Pidgin is very needed.
Or why not code this plugin for emesene? But you can only use the MSN protocol at the moment!
