provide easy (synaptic) touchpad configuration for laptops
Written by leu the 18 Mar 08 at 00:52. Category: Hardware support. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
It is quite uncomfortable to configure the synaptic touchpad.

First you have to install gsynaptics (or a similar program like qsynaptics), which is quite easy.

But after you have done that, you have to configure the xorg.conf (SHMConfig true).

If you have a look in the new xorg.conf provided by hardy, there are no entries for the touchpad anymore. So the full touchpad configuration has to be inserted manually.

I suggest that the configuration of the touchpad should be more easy.

It would be more comfortable for new users, if they do not need to configure the xorg.conf.

add info for not downloadable programs in synaptic (license reasons)
Written by leu the 9 May 08 at 00:16. Category: Others. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
There are some programs, codecs, files which are not allowed to ship with the distribution and to have in the repos due to license reasons.
But a lot of users have them installed and new ubuntu users often want them, too. They want to listen to mp3, watch dvd or ...
I.e. acroread or libdvdcss could not be found, if you search in your packet manager.

Today I got a pdf and had to open it via acroread, because evince could not display everything. (guess there was something wrong with the pdf)
I missed acroread in the repos and searching around for adobe, pdf and so on and on, because I didn't know, that Adobe changed its license.

I think, it would be very comfortable, if one searches in the package manager and could find a hint, where to download the program, codec and other often looked for programs.

I would appreciate a short message like: "Due to license reasons this program can't be downloaded from this repo. Please have a look at ... and gpl-licence at ... for further information."

Wouldn't it be nice for new users, to find this info, if they look for a codec or something similar popular in the package manager?

I hope, I could make myself a bit clear. I am sorry for the inconvenience.

resort the ideas into the correct categories
Written by leu the 9 Apr 08 at 22:50. Category: Brainstorm. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Some ideas are posted into the wrong categories. Especially because a lot of categories were implemented later.

Please provide a link [suggest matching category], so we can suggest you to resort the idea into another category.

It would make more sense and fun to browse through the categories, if the ideas are in the correct place.

Thanks a lot!

international ubuntu day for Intrepid Ibex
Written by leu the 7 Jun 08 at 00:28. Category: Marketing. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
I am thinking about a special day for Intrepid Ibex, where all ubuntu supporters burn some CDs, stay in front of schools, universities, shops and other places where we could find our target group and give Intrepid Ibex for free to some people.

I hope there are enough Linux groups and users out there to find some volunteers.

And I hope that we could find something in the newspaper to read about it the day after or before or both.

UPDATE ! Please read: jaolt does support almost every auction platform and is NOT only focussed on ebay. !
If you do not like ebay, please suggest another platform to integrate, instead of voting down. Thank you very much :)

The Java Auction Organisation and Listing Tool ("jaolt") allows the users to create and organize their auctions for eBay and Auvito (more to come) offline as well as list the created auctions without using a website.
After the auction is created offline you could send it to Ebay or Auvito whenever you want.
