Use English......
Written by ghot the 27 Oct 08 at 00:31. Category: Brainstorm. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
The ONLY reason that Ubuntu does NOT rule the world, is that you insist on using ridiculous terms....

Xorg, sudo, etc.... With hundreds of thousands of words in the English language, I would think that the Ubuntu devs could come up with some better names. The un-intuitive naming convention used in Linux, is the ONLY reason I still use Windows XP. The ONLY reason!

Microsoft is currently digging its' own grave. It would be wonderful if Linux (any form) just gave MS a little push...into that great "Bloated OS--place in the sky"

The only other improvements I can see are:
1. Have the Linux kernal/loader update, update the boot screens listing...itself. It should show only ONE entry on the OS choice screen....NOT a list of every loader update we've applied. (This may be fixed already...I'm mentioning this from my last try at Linux...aka v5.10 :) )
2. Make some sort of deal with driver providers, app or game devs, MS, etc...to allow Linux into the: apps, gaming mainstream. This lack of support for 99% of the worlds' most used programs, is the ONLY reason that Linux is NOT a household word...yet :)

I have dreams at night, that one day I will be able to install Ubuntu and then install ANY program or game, written by ANYone, and have it simply install and run flawlessly.

Merge Rhythmbox and Totem
Written by GrumpyGrenade the 27 Oct 08 at 22:11. Category: Multimedia. Related to: Totem Movie Player. New
I think we should merge Rhythmbox and Totem. People shouldn't have to open up another window just to listen to music and video.

Replace Rhythmbox with Banshee
Written by LuisAugusto the 27 Oct 08 at 23:16. Category: Multimedia. Related to: Banshee Music Player. New
Yeah, yeah, I know this is techinically a duplicate, but the other one was submitted before 1.x series.

Banshee 1.2 is a lot better than Rhythmbox, it has a better interface and more features.

Yes, it's mono, it's sponsored by satan, but it's still better than Rhythmbox.

BTW: Leaving a comment with a reason of why this is bad (or good, however, just by cheking both apps is pretty obvious) would be a bless, otherwise, it makes me believe this is just indirect trolling against mono :)

Thanks in advance for your attention.

Option/ability to minimize Totem player to tray
Written by pepperpupper the 28 Oct 08 at 13:42. Category: Usability. Related to: Totem Movie Player. New
I think it would be nice if it was possible to have an option for minimizing the Totem player to tray.

Many people (including me) are using it as a music player also (it is also set as default for this) and it can often be convenient to be able to minimize a music-playing application to the tray.

Gnome 3 most be completly different from any other desktop environment and OS
Written by slsolaris the 28 Oct 08 at 14:18. Category: Look and Feel. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
i have seen a lot of mock ups and i really think they just want to make it look like KD4 and etc, I think that gnome 3 most be as clean as efficient, what do i mean? i mean that we need to save screen space! one of the things i really like of mac (i am not telling it should look like mac ok?) it is the fact that they just got one sidebar to do almost everything from file, edit, to shut down the PC (i love my actual two sidebars that gnome2 provide), the fact is that gnome most not look like mac nor KDE 4 DE, nor Windows vista, and as this is (ubuntu) an open community you can post your ideas but please vote this idea if you agree with me!

1. ubuntu must be always in a cd
2. ubuntu software must be in gtk+ graphical user interface

WE SHOULD MAKE THE DIFFERENCE WITH A MORE ROBUST DESKTOP ENVIRONMENT (DE) AND OPERATING SYSTEM (OS) BUT NEAT, USE-ORIENTED INSTEAD OF FILE/FOLDER ORIENTED.

Enable Nautilus to use tabs.

Nautilus is Ubuntu's default file management software. There is no reason why you should need to open countless Nautilus windows to manage your files. It is time to bring tabs from your web browser to your file browser.

This is implemented! See the Gnome 2.24 release notes.

[Rhythmbox] Replace the rating system with a simpler bookmark function
Written by antistress the 3 Mar 08 at 01:46. Category: Multimedia. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
I'm not sure that "real" people use the Rhythmbox rating system which allow to give a notation between 1 to 5 !

Instead of it i suggest to have a much simpler system : a starring system (just fill a star in front of your favorite music see gmail for an illustration http://spaceagewasteland.com/images/gmail9.gif )

Brainstorm is a good occasion for a poll around that idea

Show the content of folders as thumbnail
Written by Lorenz the 4 Mar 08 at 17:40. Category: Accessibility. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
That is a feature I miss very much in Ubuntu.

Like everyone else, I organize my files in folders. For example I put every music album in a new folder, every new movie, photos from a trip, etc.

It would look much better and be actually helpful for finding what you are looking for, if the folder shows the content as a thumbnail. I actually think we should copy from Windows there and have an option to set a certain pic from within the folder as thumbnail or just show a random picture from within the folder.

I believe that this is something that would make Ubuntu

a) look better
b) make it even more easy to use

Thanks for your consideration and comments!
