Merged Brainstorm ideas should show all contributing authors
Written by Auzy the 21 Mar 08 at 13:42. Category: Brainstorm. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
When ideas are merged, all authors should earlier submitted ideas (and the current one marked dupe), should be listed in the idea.

So say we have ideas 1, 2, 3. All are dupes of 1.

When 2 is marked as a dupe, it should have authors 1 and 2. It doesn't have 3 though, because none of 3's input when into 1 and 2. 3 however should have authors 1 and 2 added to theirs in order of ideas. (Basically just authors further down the tree should be appended).

Block the OS from accessing badware and Phishing sites.
Written by fordplay the 13 Mar 08 at 13:59. Category: Security. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Automatic block ubuntu from accessing the ip addressess of these sites by:-

1, using openDNS as the DNS server, This gives phishing protection.
2, Block the sites on the www.stopbadware.org list, in a similar way that google does. This should be able to be undone if needed.

Adblock by default

Since Adblock is such a useful Firefox extension, it should be enabled by default in all Ubuntu installs.

Re-install applications from repositories script
Written by gloscherrybomb the 13 Mar 08 at 23:52. Category: Installation. Related to: Nothing/Others. Already implemented
When I upgrade ubuntu I find it frustrating that I have to download things like VLC, amarok, compiz, AWN etc all over again. I would be good if you could use synaptic or apt-get to generate a script that records all of the applications you have installed, and by running this script on a new install, you would be able to download all of your usual programmes in one go.

Speed-up Metacity
Written by tony_montana the 14 Mar 08 at 07:02. Category: Look and Feel. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
For all the people not using compiz or another compositing window manager Metacity is tremendously slow. For instance it takes over a second for a terminal window to pop-up.

It would be fantastic if it would be possible to improve the performance of the standard out-of-the-box window manager.

Team that works to keep all software in repos up to date.
Written by bradwjensen the 14 Mar 08 at 06:47. Category: Multimedia. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Many times I see a new exciting or simple version Firefox, Thunderbird, Pidgin, Etc. out, but I know it will be forever until it shows up in the repositories.. Sometimes until a new version of Ubuntu comes out.

I believe Ubuntu should have a team of people which do not much more than make sure as much of the extra user software is up to date with what's coming out..

So when Firefox beta 5 comes out (say, in the morning) it should likely be in the Repos by the second night if not sooner..

Create a way for users and software creators to contact the team with a simple Instant Message or E-mail stating they have a new update.

:)

Totem-xine instead of Totem-gstreamer
Written by vinutux the 8 Mar 08 at 04:35. Category: Multimedia. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
It is nice idead to install totem-xine instead of totem-gstreamer default. It may be resolve most of the problems related to watch DVDs to newbies. If it is not possible with legal reasons install totem-gstreamer default and when some one put a dvd ask for installing additional pluging it is installed totem-xine and xine lib. To install appropriate codecs with totem-gstreamer is difficult such as add new repos from debian and install extra codecs from there.

Xine make better DVD experience compared to other players (menus..etc). Most of the ubuntu users use external programs like vlc ,mplayer or xine-ui instead of default totem for watching dvds.

The idead is
................................

1. install totem-gstreamer as usual

2. When put a dvd in drive ask for installing additional plugins

3. If hit yes automatically remove totem-gstreamer and install totem-xin with dependencies.

Remove very unpopular ideas
Written by pogga the 8 Mar 08 at 16:47. Category: Brainstorm. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Once an idea has a large negative score, say -200 votes, then its probably a good idea to remove it since its reasonable to assume that, on balance, a fair amount of people dont think its a good idea.
