Cheese by default
Written by obitux the 13 Mar 08 at 21:09. Category: Graphics. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
I have recently discover a new gnome application called "cheese" who can exploit your webcam taking photos or videos with lot of fun filters, like Apple's Photo Booth!
I think many ubuntu users are disappointed to see their webcams unused on their desks...
Maybe "cheese" may be adopted by the next ubuntu releases?

I apologize if my English is wrong, I'm a French user ;)

equalizer for rhythmbox
Written by roemer2201 the 12 Mar 08 at 06:41. Category: Multimedia. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
There should be an equalizer in ryhthmbox music player so that everyone can set the sound-output for his personal needs.

Maybe create some default-settings like rock, metal, jazz, classic ...

Add a GUI to PulseAudio
Written by sf_007 the 19 Mar 08 at 19:38. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
A default GUI for PulseAudio would be great, the ability to control the volume for each program is a very useful thing...

[edit] For those who want it, just install padevchooser (PulseAudio Device Chooser) through synaptic, it also install all the other packages needed...

Pause keyboard input if window appears while typing
Written by Vertelemming the 26 Mar 08 at 17:14. Category: Look and Feel. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
One thing that's always bothered me, no matter which OS I've been on, is the way I can be typing in one window when another program tosses up a notification or error which immediately gets closed because I just pressed space or enter. I propose a mechanism be developed by which keyboard input is temporarily paused or halted if a window appears when more than X number of keys is being pressed per ten seconds.

I realise the difficulties inherent in this; a daemon or service would eat up unnecessary CPU cycles, it's impractical to patch every program in existence to follow this behaviour, and most other ways of doing this have one argument against them or another. However, if this were presented as an opt-in behaviour, I believe it would benefit a fair percentage of people for a relatively small amount of coder output.

Disable Screensaver while playing movies or slideshows
Written by Wiplash4 the 27 Mar 08 at 21:55. Category: Multimedia. Related to: Nothing/Others. Already implemented
It is unnerving to touch buttons when the screensaver runs while a movie is playing.

Developer comments
The default media player, Totem, already does this. If an application does not do this then please file a bug with that application in Launchpad.

Fix Compiz in 8.04 on HP laptops
Written by Jimbo99 the 27 Mar 08 at 17:54. Category: Graphics. Related to: Nothing/Others. Not an idea
I have several HP laptops and one of those had 7.10 installed and I was able to use compiz. After installing 8.04 beta compiz is no longer working.

Again, on 7.10 it worked. On 8.04 it does not.

The error when I do a compiz --replace is:

Checking for Xgl: not present
Found laptop using ati driver
aborting and using fallback: /usr/bin/metacity

I can't figure out for the life of me why Canonical disabled this. This needs to be addressed before the 8.04 for fear that, with the massive number of bugs in Ubuntu that this will become forgotten. Forgotten just like the fact that using the auto login feature causes the sound engines to set the system in overload with near 100% constant cpu utilization, or that the wireless on most HP presario class notebooks from 2-3 years ago just refuses to work, no matter what, even with ndiswrapper.

So, before these laptop issues become lost forever, please address these new bugs you have are introducing.

It would be a great idea to not disable working features.

Re-install applications from repositories script
Written by gloscherrybomb the 13 Mar 08 at 23:52. Category: Installation. Related to: Nothing/Others. Already implemented
When I upgrade ubuntu I find it frustrating that I have to download things like VLC, amarok, compiz, AWN etc all over again. I would be good if you could use synaptic or apt-get to generate a script that records all of the applications you have installed, and by running this script on a new install, you would be able to download all of your usual programmes in one go.

Block the OS from accessing badware and Phishing sites.
Written by fordplay the 13 Mar 08 at 13:59. Category: Security. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Automatic block ubuntu from accessing the ip addressess of these sites by:-

1, using openDNS as the DNS server, This gives phishing protection.
2, Block the sites on the www.stopbadware.org list, in a similar way that google does. This should be able to be undone if needed.
