Update the list of Cities in the World Clock!
Written by iampriteshdesai the 27 Aug 08 at 13:27. Category: Others. Related to: Nothing/Others. Not an idea
The world clock in Ubuntu seems to be behind times little bit.
It shows the city Mumbai by the name of Bombay. Bombay got renamed in 1999. So as you can see the Clock isn't lagging by much!
Also many Indian cities haven't had their names updated. These names were changed even before Ubuntu began.
Tere are many other important world cities whose names havent been updated. Plz do it since it doesnt create a good impression about Ubuntu. It is throurghly unprofessional!

Remove 256Mb memory check from Wubi
Written by iampriteshdesai the 6 Jul 08 at 13:48. Category: Installation. Related to: Wubi Windows installer. Implemented
Earlier this year when I tried to install Hardy with wubi it gave an error saying 'atleast 256 MB required for the installer'. Now my PC has 256 MB so, this error seemed fishy. This will keep away new users of Ubuntu who wanted to try Ubuntu because of Wubi.
Wubi can run on less than 256MB Ram so remove the check. If I didn't have internet I wouldn't have been able to use Ubuntu.
To run Wubi on less than 256MB RAM do this:

Developer comments
In Wubi 8.04.1 the memory check is now only a warning, and the user can decide to continue with the installation anyway.

Use better compression algorithms to pack software!
Written by iampriteshdesai the 3 Sep 08 at 16:15. Category: Usability. Related to: Synaptic package manager. New
I have noticed that as compared to other OS (Win + Mac) softwares for Ubuntu always have large size. Eg. Firefox 3 for Win-7.2 Mb; for Ubuntu- 9.5 Mb
Opera for Win- 5to6 Mb; for Ubuntu- 7.5 Mb
Plz use better compression algorithms so that Linux users don't have to download more than there Windows brethen

The Triple Allince- Ubuntu, Mozilla and Google
Written by iampriteshdesai the 1 May 08 at 14:31. Category: Others. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
We all know Microsoft and Google are at odds. Imagine an allince between 3 of our favourite thing which can power ahead. With Google's support more and more people will be enticed to try Ubuntu. Also Canonical can do with cash to hire more coders to make Ubuntu even better!

Ask developers to make single .deb files
Written by iampriteshdesai the 7 Aug 08 at 18:39. Category: Installation. Related to: Synaptic package manager. New
In windows people are accustomed to download a single .exe files and double click it to install it. In Ubuntu we use Synaptic. Sure synaptic is good. I have slow speed so I save those .deb files to install things later. I am sure many people do that. Now the problem is, most Ubuntu softwares like VLC, comprise of 4-5 .deb files this makes it tough to install software manually. If there are single source files for Windows and Macs I am sure, single files can be created for Ubuntu too.

Firefox Awesome bar
Written by iampriteshdesai the 8 Jul 08 at 13:48. Category: Accessibility. Related to: Firefox. New
In windows while using firefox or any other browser if say I click on the address bar the complete address is selected. In Ubuntu if I click on the adrress bar it doesnt select it completely. Rather it only places the cursor there. Normally this isn't a problem. But I use the awesome bar a lot and I like the windows functionality. I click once on the address bar (this deletes the previous entry) and type what i want. In Ubuntu I have to right click>select all> then type
