Idea for a better standby mode (suspend to RAM or Disk)
Written by hakaishi the 7 Jan 11 at 09:33. Global category: System. Already implemented
It'd be nice if there'd be a way to suspend all actions like copying and transfering files, downloads, installations and such and after wakeup to resume them. Like pausing all read and write processes on the hard disc and saving the position(s) for resume, like a system freeze, or a snapshot or something like that.
I don't know if this makes sense, but it is possible to suspend while working on a document and the content is still there after wakeup without it being saved. And the program Konversation also is able to resume downloads after they were aborted, the internet connection was lost, or the program was closed.
Unfortunately I don't know enough about the intern processes of Ubuntu to provide an idea for a solution...
Does Anyone have an idea how to realize this?
