Hands aloft, who's still running a machine with 32-bit CPU? Make the 64-bit compile the focus, dump Gnome and make KDE rock solid.

I hate when i accidentally drag something, but i want it to stay in its original location
it would be nice if you could right click while its still being dragged to cancel the operation, or press a hotkey

Don`t ask "Whats your name?" - make it clearly optional!

This question is really unless for an installer. It`s about privacy. People switch from windows to linux because them hope that there is no phone home. Why should an operating system ask for the real name them are thinking.
There is no real need to brand the operating system with this information. The user can enter his name in programs he really want to itself.

Hardy Heron must me released in June 2008 because of Firefox 3.0

(Sorry for my bad English)
I know, it's a very important decision, but if Ubuntu will support Firefox 3.0, the Mozilla's browser must be STABLE.
Firefox 3.0 is planned to be released in June, that's why I ask to report the version of the new LTS release.
Please consider this idea seriously.
Thank you.

Need Cancel Button in Dialogs

Hi!
When I open a GNOME dialog, there is no "Cancel" button, so that changes can not be undone.
Examples: Settings mouse, Appearance...
In KDE/Windows the dialog windows buttons are: "OK" / "Cancel".
In Gnome the button is "Close".
I don't undertand it!
Regards.
Marquinos.

Remove Nvidia logo from startup when using restricted drivers

Already implemented

There is that annoying Nvidia ad every time I boot X. That comes with the restricted drivers. It would be better without the Nvidia logo.
EDIT:
It can be manually disabled with
Option "NoLogo" "True"
in xorg.conf, but the logo should be disabled by default.
EDIT2: This idea has been implemented on the newest drivers. Please mark this idea as done.

beep me when asking a question

During installation, Ubuntu has some questions to ask.
In order to let the user do something else during the working time of the installer, it would be great for it to beep the user to tell him that a question is asked, the installation is finished successfully, or if an error occured. This way, the "doing-something-else-user" would know that the computer is waiting for him.
It would not necessary be the default behaviour, because i'm pretty sure that many users really don't like the system's beep, but just having a checkbox at the beginning of the installation asking something like "Do you want to be beeped when a question is asked to you during the installation?" would really be usefull and i'm quiet sure it wouldn't be really hard to add.
Having that option, we wouldn't have to stay in front of the computer, looking at the growing percentage...
(I apologize for my English which may be a little poor, and i wish i've been well understood...)

Rename the "Trash" to something more eco-friendly

I mean, "trash" is similar to "waste", and in this context of computer software there is no waste... recycle bin, or Recycling bin or something similar and eco-friendly would be a good name...
The current "trash" even has a recycling simbol on it...
I think it would be nice, and maybe even more appropriate in technical terms...

Include 32 bit depth for video

Ubuntu has a 24bit color depth by default.
It would be great if it gets a 32 bit color video display which would render better graphics, better video playback and might also help game lovers to run games better on linux.
I always feel video playback is where window$ takes a upper hand over ubuntu... Please fix this.

Could an administrator remove it?

Ubuntu's bootloader is a stark black and white screen, filled with confusing options. It gives newbies a moment of indecision, as they try to figure out if they are supposed to choose something, and wonder why there are three or four Ubuntus listed. Then the timer finishes counting down (starting from 10), and the newb begins to feel like he's getting in over his head as his PC boots into Ubuntu.
Too much information up front, stark text-only display, painfully long countdown timer. What would be the alternative? Well, when a Fedora PC is booted up, the first thing the user sees is a graphical splash screen, and "Booting into Fedora (kernel version) in 4 seconds ... " The user can press a key to interrupt and select from kernel versions or alternative operating systems, or just let it boot into Fedora.
Can't we create our own attractive bootloader? Or, failing that, copy-and-paste Fedora's?

In Nautilus I can choose Single Click, but this only a feature of Nautilus.
In the GNOME dialogs Open file, Save file, etc, I must do two clicks!
(In Windows the Single Click is for all system).

Some programs have audio but rely on the master volume control to limit that programs audio level. This can be limiting as a user might be playing a video that is silent but have a voice communication which is too loud.
I want the ability to control volume at the application level. This will give me more control over the audio output of programs.

Many other operating systems have included this sort of functionality in some way shape of form, but it would be nice to have something similar to the Windows XP log in screen in Ubuntu. I believe such functionality would make the OS more appealing to the vast majority of home PC users out there.
