Bill Gates went on The Daily Show to promote Vista. Mark should go on to promote Ubuntu Hardy.

Please don't demote if you just think this isn't possible. Demote if you don't want to see this happen at all.

We may not have the power to "Send" him there but I think if we get enough votes, we might just get on their radar.

When I start the Ubuntu LiveCD and my keyboard or mouse isn't detected that is very annoying. We cannot expect people to know shortcut keys to start a mouse, or how to turn the on-screen keyboard on.

I believe we need to be proactive about the security of our systems. Also, I think Fedora fully uses SELinux for all of there default desktop applications.

Security should not be an add-on after the fact. We also should endeavor to make sure people's first reaction is not to turn it off. Fedora has failed at that with SELinux, many guides have that as their first step after installing.

This would also require a GUI for notifying a user of a security breach (and allowing them to allow it?)

My computer has a single bad memory address in it.
I should be able to use my computer.

Currently we let people test that they have badram, let's give them the best solution we have.

It's silly to be pushing open standards when we don't follow them for our own sites.

Some of these are really simple fixes, but showing that we care about open standards is priceless.

Red Hat, opensuse, Debian, Fedora, Linux Mint, Gnome, Opera, Firefox and OpenOffice.org

We can play youtube videos in Totem now and they work great, as we are using youtube's api.
Flash still has some issues on Linux and Firefox that don't seem like they are going to improve drastically (like sound).
Apple's iPhone doesn't have flash on it and instead uses the youtube api to view videos.

Let's use it too.

*Note: I am not saying we shouldn't try to improve Flash support, just that youtube will also become better if Totem does the playing, (better acceleration, better fullscreen).

On a default desktop system why should we expect users to have any use for non-X virtual terminals? Unfortunately, many of us, use them when we have a problem (program hangs, etc) We need to be "forced" to use them same GUI tools (Gnome-System-Monitor) that the average user would try to use to kill a crashed program.

Notes: Proposal just for desktop. Also, make it relatively easy to turn them back on.

Dependencies:
Requires not using uSplash and just going to X really fast?

Possible Benefits:
Saved Memory: 5-10 Megs? (peanuts but still)
Slicker/Faster Bootup: priceless
No way to accidentally find themselves at a VT
Mostly for the average user

Possible Negatives:
If our GUI tools aren't up to the task of recovering from some crashes
Mostly for the developer/advanced user
