Hi!

I'm a big fan of Images like .iso.
But it is not very easy to mount this Images.
I think there must be a Tool in Nautilus and Dolphin wich alows mounting Images with a double Click. (This feature exists int MacOS). Or with a right click on the file and then there must be a poit "Mount Image". I thick that would be a very use full Tool for every one.
A good example for this is CDemu.

I know there are some ohter good programs, but I think that would be the easyest way and very confortible.

Restoring the bootloader by Ubuntu installation CD
Written by vinlos the 29 Feb 08 at 10:46. Category: Installation. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
If I install Windows after Ubuntu, it's impossible to boot Ubuntu until I install again GRUB following several instructions.
My idea is adding the option "Restore bootloader" in the list which appears when Ubuntu installation CD start. The aim is to offer a simple way to restore GRUB without loading a live distribution, opening a terminal and following a long series of instructions

[Edit 06/03/2008]
In my opinion, the user SHOULDN'T boot the Ubuntu Live Distro. It would be an unuseful waste of time.
Instead, it should be possible to select a new option among those ones of the startup menu of the CD.

There should be a hardware compatibility tool that a user can run to determine how compatible their hardware is with Ubuntu or Gobuntu and also whether there is non-native support for it. People are lazy and will want to know whether it will work before even trying the LiveCD.

create BASIC-like language interface to write generic gui programs
Written by hatsoff the 24 Apr 08 at 19:34. Category: Look and Feel. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
I think Ubuntu should have some sort of simple programming language (like BASIC on the old Apple IIs) so that people can write generic gui frontends to command line applications.

What I imagine is one or more simplistic templates, which non-expert Ubuntu users can customize to serve as a gui to various and diverse cli applications. Templates would have any number of input file selectors, to each of which could be assigned by the author a particular cli program. The template would also have check-boxes to which normal language could be written to correspond to command parameters (IE, more easily understandable than cli parameters like "-jumppad" "-toc" and "-T").

The template could be designed to include other common functions, like previewing or choosing a specific output location.

I have no idea how difficult this would be to implement, but if it could be done, I bet it would be exceedingly helpful to the community at large. Guis would pop up like mad if such a template/language could be made to work well.

disk check (fsck) statusbar and notification on boot
Written by hessam the 16 Sep 08 at 14:51. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
First take a look at http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/11/

By default, nothing shows up during booting, that notifies me that the computer is disk checking. I installed startup-manager and then I enabled the "show text during boot" option. Now during fsck, it notifies me that I can press the ESC button to cancel. (In ubuntu usplash doesn't show text by default.)

I think Ubuntu should show a statusbar during fsck (what percentage has been checked) and some text should be displayed saying something like: "Performing Disk Check (press ESC to cancel)" (Even when usplash text is disabled.)

A beatiful goal for our OS
Written by joe_dana the 16 Aug 08 at 18:52. Category: Hardware support. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
HI!.
First of all: apologize for my english.
I'm an user of Ubuntu since 6.10 and i'm very proud of have more than a year with ubuntu.
But i want to propose one interesting goal which could make the diference between UBUNTU and the resting OS.
My proposal is:
Let's try to build new versions of ubuntu making our OS consume less memory each new version is released.
Microsoft and MAC have a horrible mistake: each new version of their SO requires a lot of memory..let's make ubuntu get the opossite way (as much as posible)...with each new version get a lower profile of minium requirements.

I know that programmers and all the staff will call me idiot. But i really think that this should be one of the first goal to take on mind for the new version of ubuntu.
