Upon choosing to reboot the system, the user is presented with a dialog that tells them that the 'Computer will restart in (x) seconds, press (y) for more options.'

(x) would be a user configurable time (could be set to 0 for users who do not prefer to have a dialog on restart) with the default time set to 3 seconds; (y) could be a function key or dialog button.

When the user opts for more options at reboot, they are presented with the grub list, allowing them to choose a different kernel, memtest, recovery modes or even a different operating system to reboot into. (this could be achieved presently by editing the default in /boot/grub/menu.lst to the user desired OS)

IF (upon more options) the user chooses to reboot into Ubuntu AND the user has set the computer to automatically log in at boot, THEN the user is presented with more options to choose from, ranging from safe graphics mode to different desktop environments (Gnome, KDE, etc).

If you feel this brainstorm needs -1, please let me know why. I appreciate it.

Ubuntu Fast Version.
Written by torcescubogdan the 23 Jul 08 at 09:26. Category: Brainstorm. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
I think is god to implement a program where you chose Ubuntu performances:

-Ubuntu Fast Mode - minim graphical, best performances, recommended for old PC.

-Ubuntu Auto Performances Mode - Ubuntu chose best settings for your PC, depends on your video card, memory and CPU.

-Ubuntu Hight-Graphical Mode - This set Ubuntu to have best look, and activate more futures.

After the user chose the performance mod he can also edit the pre-settings and save as My Ubuntu Version.
Also when PC start-up verify if some hardware change and if, verify if some other version is better to chose.

(PS. Sorry for my English)

Indicate an additional metric for quality of the brainstorm idea.
Written by braaivleis the 1 Jul 08 at 11:59. Category: Brainstorm. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Since some ideas don't always fit most people's interests, vote counts could be low on certain "good" ideas, even if there were no negative votes.

I suggest that an additional metric in the form of (Effective Vote Metric)/(Total Votes) should be shown.

(Where, "Effective Vote Metric" = the number that is currently shown and
"Total Votes" = the addition of the positive vote count AND the absolute value of the negative vote count.

This type of metric will be useful to show the ideas where most votes where positive and very few where negative (which could lead to it being considered as a "good" idea).

Make the large evolution tooltip 'you've new mail' clickable
Written by tienm the 11 Mar 08 at 19:02. Category: Office. Related to: Nothing/Others. New

When a new email arrives a nice large tooltip shows up. Making it clickable, would enable me to open the email directly. It would be even nicer if the 'from' name appears as well in the tooltip.

Don't make gnome games dependent on each other
Written by timwylie the 11 Mar 08 at 01:57. Category: Gaming. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
The default gnome games for solitaire, minesweeper, etc are really the best out there, but I hate that if I remove one game through "Add/Remove Programs" it removes all of them! Why?

This will not only confuse, but also really annoy most users. A reason should at least be given. I know there are easy ways around this, but most average users are going to want to use the easy package manager... I mean, that's what it's there for right?

Less screensavers
Written by programad the 11 Mar 08 at 15:24. Category: Look and Feel. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Actually, we have 5 wallpapers, 9 themes and 80+ SCREENSAVERS!!!

WHAT THE HELL!

Who need that amount of screensavers?

I think we should vote five to the default installation, and the other ones comes with a optional package?

Isn't gnome "keep it simple"?

For me just a "dim screen" is enough for default.
