OpenOffice with (real) native GTK
Written by fragro the 11 Mar 08 at 11:07. Category: Office. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Replace the awfull NWF by GTK. (like NeoOffice with Cocoa) NWF is often unstable and inconsitent. A clean GTK version will also run on multiple plattforms like OSX or Win32! In addition it might be more portable for mobile devices like OpenMoko based ones.

More Games in Ubunut
Written by fragro the 10 Mar 08 at 10:52. Category: Gaming. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
There are many OpenSource Games not in Ubuntu. The installation/compiling of these is often not easy (enough) for end users! Include these to get more gaming experienced users to Ubuntu.

An generic Feature freeze exception for games (especially for online games) maybe useful! Not a must have!

open:
Vegastrike (more actual)
dangerdeep
boson
eternal lands

don't know (license/copyright?):
freecnc
homeworld sdl (needs original gamecd)

commercial/closed:
eve online
second live

feel free to find more!

Use original OpenOffice icons in Human icon theme
Written by fragro the 2 Apr 08 at 12:16. Category: Look and Feel. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
The original Icons are better in my mind. The Human icons are good for OpenOffice related files but not as program icon!

Icons:

Project activity/status indicator for Launchpad
Written by fragro the 18 Mar 08 at 11:45. Category: Others. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Add an activity indicator for Projects in launchpad like the CVS or SVN activity charts on sourceforge, so normal users can imagine the development activity. Even the percentage of completeness in Blueprints could be helpfully and would be nice.

Make Linux Libertine the default (serif) Font in OpenOffice
Written by fragro the 19 Mar 08 at 13:49. Category: Office. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Linux Libertine is a very good readable and well designed serif Font. Lightyears better than any other Times* Font.

The most effort is the upper case "ß". (There are only the lower case defined yet)

http://linuxlibertine.sourceforge.net/

I've written my Diploma work with this Font and it looks great!

Make a separate Developer Repository
Written by fragro the 24 May 08 at 13:02. Category: Programming. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Like the not supported Backports, with latest IDE's and recommended development tools.

Actual Versions especially in _Gutsy_ are outdated and lacks of needed Features. (Hardy is unusable in this time [for me])

Examples:
Monodevelop (C/C++ is in MD 1.0)
Eclipse (Eclipse is 3.2 actually 3.4)
Netbeans (Netbeans is 5.5 actually 6, better GTK integration more features)
OpenJDK (more stable than icedtea)
Vala (totally outdated 0.1.6 actually 0.3.2)
...

Separate Gnome-Games to sepparate submenu of Games
Written by fragro the 10 Mar 08 at 10:57. Category: Gaming. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Cause the are too much small games, so explicit installed/wanted games get lost between these!

Vala support in Monodevelop
Written by fragro the 24 May 08 at 12:43. Category: Programming. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Monodevelop is the best IDE compared to VisualStudio.

Vala is a great meta compiler using an C# like Syntax and creates GObject based C-files.
So Vala is the best of both worlds! Native GObject/C Applications and higher Level C# like Syntax.

The Users will become native speed and programmers less headache!

Please add Vala support for pushing Vala development.

Totem: automatic Histogram Filter for optimal video contrast
Written by fragro the 19 Mar 08 at 16:11. Category: Multimedia. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Would be fine, when its possible to make a Gstreamer Histogram filter element, which automatic make contrast correction. This will be result in optimal video contrast.
This could be an Option in totems video preferences and i suggest to enable it by default.

I'm still busy with Diploma so i cant make it self now.

The algorithm is not complicate and well known. (i have it implemented self for study but in java)

Set "Human List" as default GDM Theme

I think for normal/lazy/migrating users a theme with face browser is more user friendly.

Thoggen is a great nifty Tool even for beginners as for "experts" for making fast a local copy of her DVDs. Unfortunately Thoggen development is slow, very slow.

Antialise Metacity Borders
Written by fragro the 29 May 08 at 10:02. Category: Look and Feel. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
The Window Borders are not very Beautiful. Antialise them or add a new drawing routine for proper drawing. (I know this affects not directly Ubuntu, but they can talk with Metacity people)

Possibility to buy and install Fluendo (licensed) codecs easyly
Written by fragro the 19 Mar 08 at 12:15. Category: Multimedia. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
May is it possible to make Fluendo Codec-Packages, wich asks for a license key on Install or reorder you to fluendo homepage if you haven't those key. I would it buy, but want an easy way to install (clean). When Buying over Ubuntu, canonical may got a little fee for further development of Ubuntu. (But watch out! I don't want a great commericalism in Ubuntu!)
