chat support and very optional phone support for selected country, city
Written by dragoninsane the 1 Apr 08 at 19:47. Global category: Others. New
ubuntu should support chat not just irc but also on
other popular messenger like yahoo.IRC seems very
complicated and geeky to use.new users from windows
never used IRC so how u expect them to shift also YAHOO
is very easy to use and popular too.supports chat room.
we can create room here in YAHOO rooms>
Computers and internet>>linux and unix>>Ubuntu users
and developers official room.these rooms are for only help
with ubuntu and its derivates nothing else.
phone support first should be limited and on specific
time in week (sat 10 to sun midnight) with
toll free number.

Don't just overwrite the Windows Bootloader, without even asking or notifying
Written by sf_007 the 6 Apr 08 at 00:20. Global category: Installation. New
If a user installs ubuntu on the same HDD as windows (on a different partition) GRUB replaces the windows bootloader without warning... not vey nice...

Most people don't just switch completly from windows to Linux in one day, they first may use the Live CD, maybe install on a partition they have on the Windows PC... everything is fun and games.... but while the user doesn't get acquainted with Linux thay may need/decide to format the partition where Linux is installed (formatting is also the easiest way to remove Linux) and thats when the problems start:
Windows does not boot... people curse Linux and swear never again to touch such a dangerous software... not good!

How about something like this:

#################################################
A partition with windows has been detected.
[X] Add an entry for ubuntu on the windows bootloader (recommended)
[ ] Install GRUB and let it manage the booting of all detected systems? (will replace the current bootloader)
#################################################

OR

#################################################
GRUB will be installed and from now on it will manage the booting of all the detected Operating Systems.

[OK/NEXT] [MORE OPTIONS]
################################################

For Linux users, (no windows detected) things would not change a bit...
This are just examples, the only thing important is that it should "play nicer" with windows users....

Let´s make 2009 the Obama and Ubuntu year !
Written by Crow1967 the 16 Dec 08 at 08:57. Related project: ubuntu.com. Not an idea
Let´s make the coming year a successful year for both Obama and Ubuntu and make sure that this year Ubuntu will really take off and become more popular then ever !
You can do this by approaching your friends, colleagues, family and distribute Ubuntu, explain and let them see what this beautiful Free Operating System can do, compared to their $$ counterparts. As many people are disappointed about some current operating systems, this is the time to show, what Ubuntu can do and is capable of.

Good luck and all the best for the New Year ! Happy Holidays everybody !

Use English......
Written by ghot the 27 Oct 08 at 00:31. Related project: brainstorm.ubuntu.com. New
The ONLY reason that Ubuntu does NOT rule the world, is that you insist on using ridiculous terms....

Xorg, sudo, etc.... With hundreds of thousands of words in the English language, I would think that the Ubuntu devs could come up with some better names. The un-intuitive naming convention used in Linux, is the ONLY reason I still use Windows XP. The ONLY reason!

Microsoft is currently digging its' own grave. It would be wonderful if Linux (any form) just gave MS a little push...into that great "Bloated OS--place in the sky"

The only other improvements I can see are:
1. Have the Linux kernal/loader update, update the boot screens listing...itself. It should show only ONE entry on the OS choice screen....NOT a list of every loader update we've applied. (This may be fixed already...I'm mentioning this from my last try at Linux...aka v5.10 :) )
2. Make some sort of deal with driver providers, app or game devs, MS, etc...to allow Linux into the: apps, gaming mainstream. This lack of support for 99% of the worlds' most used programs, is the ONLY reason that Linux is NOT a household word...yet :)

I have dreams at night, that one day I will be able to install Ubuntu and then install ANY program or game, written by ANYone, and have it simply install and run flawlessly.

Easier way to enter into sudo
Written by S the 28 Feb 08 at 15:27. Global category: System. Won't implement
For newcommers having to type in sudo XXX in a terminal might be irritating.
I propose having a graphical way of using administrative permissions to edit core files of the OS such as xorg and others.
Now I know xorg has a front end but it doesnt do the job right in my opinion and there are other things people might need to do like use nautilus under sudo without using a terminal.

Change theme to square corners instead of round corners
Written by Eldmannen the 2 Apr 08 at 14:27. Global category: Look and Feel. Won't implement
Change the theme to use square corners instead of round corners.

Square corners are nicer.
Round corners are ugly.

Right click on desktop menu - add "Empty Trash"
Written by kcox5342 the 28 May 08 at 11:44. Global category: System. New
Right now to empty the trash I have to mouse over a small icon and right click. I wish the contextual menu that appeared when you right click on the desktop background would have an "Empty Trash" option.
