What do you think about this new firefox default look?
More simplicity than it already has.

Right click on desktop menu - add "Empty Trash"
Written by kcox5342 the 28 May 08 at 11:44. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Right now to empty the trash I have to mouse over a small icon and right click. I wish the contextual menu that appeared when you right click on the desktop background would have an "Empty Trash" option.

"Post comment and vote yes / no" buttons
Written by frandavid100 the 19 May 08 at 10:30. Category: Brainstorm. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Sometimes I post a comment on an idea I strongly agree / disagree with, and forget to vote it. I'm just like that.

I think that, when you comment on an idea you still haven't voted, there should be two buttons:

-Post and vote YES
-Post and vote NO

That way votes wouldn't be lost by accident, like in my case.

Make Amorak the default cd player
Written by daretoeatapeach the 20 Apr 08 at 00:58. Category: Multimedia. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
...or at least include it standard in the installation.
It's just such a better player, possibly the best out there, open source or otherwise. I think it would earn us serious brownie points from people who have been using Itunes/WinMediaPlayer/Winamp.

(Please don't vote this down if you haven't used Amorak and you simply like the standard player.)

Give Ubuntu a Personality (Make popups have a life)
Written by Truefire the 6 Apr 08 at 00:47. Category: Look and Feel. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
It would be sweet if Ubuntu talked. E.g.: Instead of,"Your computer needs to restart, etc" we would have,"I need to restart because I just got updates! For those updates to work properly, click Restart below." This will not add to the frequency of popups, just give a more personal feel.
.
It will make many people more comfortable with their computers. It feels less 'geeky'. Maybe put a face in the Ubuntu Logo, like Finder in a Mac for these popups.
Overall, this will be a revolutionary yet simple step in the direction of the truly 'user-friendly' computer.

Keep up the good work guys and gals, we appreciate it around the globe.

bookmarks with date and time, for firefox
Written by dega1999 the 5 Apr 08 at 22:01. Category: Internet & Networking. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
I don't know what it is in your Bookmarks folder of Firefox but mine is really huge and I have to waste time sometimes putting in order my bookmarks.

Most of the bookmarks are becomed obsolete.
When you browse on the net it's a common task to save some bookmarks but not all of the saved link are useful after the research or in the near future...

The idea here is to have the possibility to organize the bookmarks with a delete time.
When you want to save a link there should be the possibility to choose one of the following sentence for the link:

-never delete
-delete it when I close firefox
-delete after [x] hours and ask
-delete after [x] hours and don't ask me
-delete after [y] days and ask
-delete after [y] days and don't ask me

Firefox: Option to turn password saving off at first password entered
Written by steve196 the 5 Apr 08 at 21:31. Category: Internet & Networking. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
This of course requires collaboration from the firefox team.

The first time i type a password in firefox, it asks me if it should remember that password and gives me the options "yes", "never for this site" and "not now"
I would like to have a fourth option "turn password saving off" right there. It is much more convenient, than selecting "not now" and then going to the preferences.

Don't just overwrite the Windows Bootloader, without even asking or notifying
Written by sf_007 the 6 Apr 08 at 00:20. Category: Installation. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
If a user installs ubuntu on the same HDD as windows (on a different partition) GRUB replaces the windows bootloader without warning... not vey nice...

Most people don't just switch completly from windows to Linux in one day, they first may use the Live CD, maybe install on a partition they have on the Windows PC... everything is fun and games.... but while the user doesn't get acquainted with Linux thay may need/decide to format the partition where Linux is installed (formatting is also the easiest way to remove Linux) and thats when the problems start:
Windows does not boot... people curse Linux and swear never again to touch such a dangerous software... not good!

How about something like this:

#################################################
A partition with windows has been detected.
[X] Add an entry for ubuntu on the windows bootloader (recommended)
[ ] Install GRUB and let it manage the booting of all detected systems? (will replace the current bootloader)
#################################################

OR

#################################################
GRUB will be installed and from now on it will manage the booting of all the detected Operating Systems.

[OK/NEXT] [MORE OPTIONS]
################################################

For Linux users, (no windows detected) things would not change a bit...
This are just examples, the only thing important is that it should "play nicer" with windows users....

[....]

Improve Virtual PC Applications
Written by nami the 5 Apr 08 at 11:27. Category: Accessibility. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
1. THey should make full use of the graphics card, so if Windows XP is installed as a virtual pc, we should be able to play games properly.

2. They should allow copy and paste to and from client and host machines.

Add Google Ads to Ubuntu websites to get marketing budget
Written by orvils the 4 Apr 08 at 08:35. Category: Marketing. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Let's add Google ads to Ubuntu websites so that we can get some additional money for marketing of Ubuntu. Advertising is not bad, it is everywhere and if these ads are unobtrusive usability and user experience will not suffer. But some additional money will definetly help the cause. Imagine free ubuntu stickers, T-shirts for the community or LoCo teams or profesional advertisments in TV. First we earn the money and then let the community decide how to spend it best.

Hardy Heron must me released in June 2008 because of Firefox 3.0
Written by JoeLeKiffeur the 3 Apr 08 at 20:35. Category: Others. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
(Sorry for my bad English)

I know, it's a very important decision, but if Ubuntu will support Firefox 3.0, the Mozilla's browser must be STABLE.
Firefox 3.0 is planned to be released in June, that's why I ask to report the version of the new LTS release.

Please consider this idea seriously.

Thank you.

Remove third party softwares from the repositories and promote autopackage
Written by livio the 3 Apr 08 at 20:41. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Ubuntu is very popular distro, and its marketshare is increasing, so, in the future, the servers won't be capable to handle the load generated.

Removing third party software that can be easily downloaded from de developers website will reduce the load on Ubuntu servers, making possible to handle the future demand from the Ubuntu growth.

Promoting autopackage for third party software will make installation and administration easier for end users and will separate third party software from the software provided in Ubuntu.

The packaging system won't suffer any modification, small open source projects can be provided by "Add/Remove" menu and package administration can be made using synaptic.

Don`t ask "Whats your name?" - make it clearly optional!
Written by Theodore the 3 Apr 08 at 19:32. Category: Installation. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
This question is really unless for an installer. It`s about privacy. People switch from windows to linux because them hope that there is no phone home. Why should an operating system ask for the real name them are thinking.

There is no real need to brand the operating system with this information. The user can enter his name in programs he really want to itself.

Change theme to square corners instead of round corners
Written by Eldmannen the 2 Apr 08 at 14:27. Category: Look and Feel. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Change the theme to use square corners instead of round corners.

Square corners are nicer.
Round corners are ugly.
