Track the amount of Ubuntu computers

Since we love Ubuntu we also want to know how it fares in the world..
Hence we need some method to keep track of the number of computers that have Ubuntu installed on them, so that the number could be officially displayed at ubuntu.com or wherever.
Exactly how it should be done is up to the people that implements it. There are plenty of easy ways to do this that doesn't violate integrity, and even if this feature comes enabled as default in Ubuntu there should of course also be an option to turn it of if you somehow don't want to have your machine counted.

The main reason why 90% of world's population is using windows is that they are afraid of Linux.
Increasing market share is possible by explaining people that Ubuntu is not only for geeks.
Therefor on Ubuntu website should be:
-e books
-tutorials and even video tutorials explaining how to work in different programs.

Brainstorm: Allow duplicate ideas to merge (sum votes)
|
|

Implemented

Duplicates happen, and there are already quite a few examples of duplicates that have each accrued a fair number of votes (ie the original has 50 votes and the dupe 100).
This creates confusion for the user, should I vote for both ideas, the original, or the duplicate as it has more votes? This would obviously require some supervision, but a "propose merge" form for two very similar / identical ideas would help ensure that competition doesn't kill good ideas.
The merge process would also have to check to ensure that votes from the same person for each idea are not double counted, but I don't think this would be that hard to implement.
Example from idea 4292 :
One is suggesting to add MBR recovery option in Installation CD. http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/1242/
One is suggesting that installer should never overwrite MBR. http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/1957/
One is suggesting to have general application which can recover MBR. http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/3985/
All these ideas should be merged and a single solution which seems to be good enough should be implemented.

Dell Ideastorm is better than Brainstorm

I hate to say it but Dell's Ideastorm is better than Brainstorm. Ideastorm provides statistics, a far wider range of categories, more options to organize ideas and comments and is better at promoting cooperation and communication between users. Ideastorm also has html enabled so you can add pics and things....

Please show the number of ideas in each category, in parenthesis. For example:
Ideas being worked upon (123)
Implemented ideas (57)
Accessibility (145)
Brainstorm (456)
etc.
It should also show how many ideas there are in total somewhere....
Thanks

It would be good to have user and idea statistics here like:
-user with most ideas, votes, comments
-ideas with most points, comments
-total number of ideas, comments, users
any others..?

Increase the number of idea categories

Please increase the number of idea categories on this site. I am not a programmer, but would like to discuss ideas related to Ubuntu's distribution plans, marketing, business models, about this site and other such things. At the moment there are no such categories.
It might be nice to list the categories in the left hand menus too, for easy access.
