Epson scanners have poor support from Ubuntu AND Avasys
Written by ergbigred the 18 Jan 11 at 16:51. Related project: GIMP Image Editor. Not an idea
Epson all-in-one printers are ubiquitous in all electronics stores and offer excellent printing and scanning solutions at affordable prices, as long as you use Windows!
I believe that Ubuntu 7 was the last version that supported Avasys's Iscan scanning solution for linux systems. After that, the kernel change lost a feature that Iscan depends on; it's in Iscan's download page warnings, with a workaround that seems inherently dangerous to attempt!
We Epson users need a SANE solution to this dilemma [pun intended] to fully exploit their potential. I use a CX8400 and my dad is using his CX4600 as a paperweight till there's an answer. I do not, will not support Windows just to use a peripheral!

Solution #1: Contact Avasys or Take Over the Scanner Project
Written by ergbigred the 18 Jan 11 at 16:51.
Contact Epson, Epkowa[?], Avasys, or whoever is in charge of updating the Iscan program, give them all the latest kernel info, and explain the differences between the new kernel and the one they used as a model for Iscan, and come up with ideas to integrate a new functional Iscan or replacement program into the Ubuntu universe.
I am NOT a programmer and can crash any program I try to tweak in 0 seconds flat. I just know my scanner function won't work and should in a fairer world. Please help make it one.
