Make Drag&Drop possible everywhere in GNOME

Drag&Drop is such a intuitive and simple action - it must be promoted.
There are many things that already work in Ubuntu/GNOME/KDE with Drag&Drop, but there is much that can be improved:
- DnD an image from Firefox to the Desktop should place that image there, not a textfile with the link to the homepage.
- DnD from the icon on the left side of the URL in the Firefox address bar to the desktop should create a .desktop file with a link to that URL.
- DnD of devices onto the Pastebin should unmount them (like OSX)
- DnD of a Desktop file into a mainmenu/submenu of GNOME should create a menu item.
- fix the Nautilus-in-list-view-doesn't-accept-DnD-files issue: Launchpad bug #61237
- DnD file from anywhere (e.g. Desktop) to a folder in the "file open" "file save" dialogs.
- DnD a file into an edit box should insert a file:// link - KDE has this; Idea #3027
from Idea #4105:
- DnD Attachement from Thunderbird to Nautilus
- DnD Files From File-Roller to Nautilus
- DnD Picture from Nautilus to OOo
...and many more, please submit your ideas, I'll put them into the description!

I couldn't believe it today that you can't edit/open a .theme, .desktop, or .config file.
Just create an empty file and name it with any word and one of the upper suffix; doubleclick on it and GNOME will tell you that it is "no directory". Funny.
I file that here because I don't think it's a bug, it's a lack of a feature: open these files with a nautilus servicemenu "Edit..."

Backport NetworkManager 0.7 to hardy once it's ready

NetworkManager 0.7 offers many, many feature that are urgently needed in hardy/networking.
I think it will be included in Intrepid Ibex, but since hardy is a LTS release it would be fine to have it at least in the backports repo.

Brainstorm: add "Mark this idea as 'not an idea'" - button

There are so many "ideas" that are none.
You (brainstorm team) would have less work if there were a *button* at each idea page which easily let *us* mark the idea as 'not an idea', to be reviewed by you, and you can decide if it really is one or not and set the flag
Let us help a bit.

Allow >1 ubuntuforum threads/bugs attached to Brainstorm idea

At the moment it is only possible to attach just ONE ubuntuforum.org thread to an idea.
But often there are more than one, or complement each other.
Same with bugs.
Mostly it's ONE IDEA -- ONE BUG, but sometimes it would be helpful to link 2 bugs/threads to 1 idea.

ATM you can only see the sum of votes for each idea, e.g. 15
But 15 could mean 0(-) and 15(+) or 545(-) and 560(+)
That's adifference - it would be good to see the absolute vote count as well, something like:
532 votes for this idea 12 (-) and 520 (+)

YesNo/Save dialogs: just 'y' + 'n' keys as shortcut

ATM - at least in KDE, I don't know how it is in GNOME, if there is a popup dialog with the possibilities Yes,No,Cancel, you just have the Shortcut Keys "Alt+[key]".
[key] in that case is the underlined letter.
I think it would be good to have additionally the possibility to answer with 'y' and 'n'
or - at least in dialogs where there is no other keyboard interaction possible - let me press JUST the underlined letter, without the Alt key, to speed up my workflow.
This of course should be systemwide, additionally to the normal hot keys, and standardized.
e.g.
y -> yes
n -> no
s -> save
ESC -> Cancel (already works in most of the dialogs)

The libary libasio(-dev) is currently at version 0.3.8~rc3-2, this is outdated.
Fine toolkits like webtoolkit use it, but need a more recent version.
Please upgrade.

Brainstorm: Redirect Duplicates

There are many duplicate ideas in the database which are duplicates of duplicates. (A->B->C)
So I suggest redirecting duplicates:
so A->B should automatically become A->C
So there is just ONE real idea and all dupes should be direct dupes of that one.
Launchpad does this in a decent manner.

Brainstorm: Replace Categories with Tags

The Categories in many cases have double senses. One idea has parts of 2 categories.
ATM tags are included in brainstorm - VERY good.
But I vote to replace categories completely with tags - it is redundant information.

Firefox-like "find bar" in Konqueror (Ctrl+F)

I'd like to see a searchbar in Konqueror like the one in firefox, at the bottom. I don't mean a "google search bar" but the one if you press Ctrl+F to search something within the page.
The bar needs less space than the current window, it is faster and more comfortable to search, and you don't have another window open.
And the main reason for me is: Firefox searches WHILE you are typing, you don't have to press enter.
Kmail does this in a very good way when searching for a mail, even adept_manager can do this.

There is a very serious feature missing in KDE 4.1 which will come out next month:
You can't move items on the panel, once they are there.
There is a huge discussion ongoing, the developers say it will be possible in KDE 4.2
It is NO bug, and it will be included in KDE 4.2, but that is WAY too late.
It was possible in all KDE, GNOME, Windows, OSX versions by now - not making it possible would be a backstep.
SUSE (11.0) made it possible in their with KDE 4.0(!), so there IS already a patch.
Please vote here, vote for the "bug" at the KDE Bugtracker if you have an account there, urge at launchpad, help to make that possible.

Brainstorm: Show search words in result

When you search for some words in Brainstorm - you get the result, but nowhere on the page you can see what you were searching for.
Sometimes I have two or three tabs open with searches, and I don't remember in which tab I entered which search terms.
Instead of "Search results" would be good: "Search results for 'foo bar'"

Brainstorm: provide list with available tags

I think it would be useful if there would be a list to pick already available tags for a new idea, to prevent errors like typos and things like:
"copy-paste", "copy-n-paste", "copy", "paste" etc.
"dupe", "dupes", "duplicate", "duplicates" etc.
being NOT the same tag and therefore not linking them together.
There SHOULD be the possibility to make your own tags, but also a list of already submitted ones.

Brainstorm: Add "related to" - "Brainstorm"

ATM you can select 4 items in "Website" at the "This idea is related to:" box in Brainstorm:
launchpad.net
ubuntu.com
ubuntuforums.org
wiki.ubuntu.com
I would suggest to add "brainstorm.ubuntu.com" to it (or just "brainstorm") for ideas related to Ubuntu Brainstorm!
Developer comments
This is part of the next plans:
We'll be moving the contents of the Brainstorm category to a new "brainstorm.ubuntu.com" relation, and delete the brainstorm category.

Let Ubiquity take the settings from the LiveCD to Install

If you start the Ubuntu LiveCD, change a few things like Desktop bachground, icon placing, surf the web and have saved passwords/history/... etc - I'd like it to see that ubiquity takes the current profile and copies it to the fresh installes system, into the user profile..
There are some issues - e.g. if you mograte from another system (older Ubuntu) and import settings, those should have priority (or not?) - discussable.
Abut all in all i'd like to not have vanished all the settings from the LiveCD...

Edyuk is a very good Qt4 IDE, and currently it is at Version number 1.0.0-rc2
It integrates the Qt4 Designer - i would appreciate it if there were .debs in the hardy/intrepid repos as well.

There are many cases, typos, or just a bad formulated idea that could be explained better and more precise in a title.
In launchpad this is possible, I can change my idea description, please let us change our (own?) titles too.
