Better centralized sound management
Written by dragoninsane the 21 Jul 08 at 16:19. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Better Intel HDA control management, old alsa is mixing and confusing every user, show lot of confusing stuff like mixer and extra alternatives(maybe) oss, sigmatel, intel hda, alsa but still i dont know which will yield best results
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_High_Definition_Audio
http://www.intel.com/design/chipsets/hdaudio.htm
Needs Better GUI,less confusion, complicated way to handle, dont show too many devices show all devices can be configured in single window including equalizer, synthesizer, wave to configure.when i plugged in new motherboard i noticed that iam not getting the best possible output with Alsa in Hardy, not just auto detection should be there but it should give maximum sound output, avoiding noise it is feature of intel HDA to avoid noise
Intel HD Audio hardware is capable of delivering the support and sound quality for up to eight channels at 192 kHz/32-bit quality, while the AC‘97 specification can only support six channels at 48 kHz/20-bit. In addition, Intel HD Audio is architected to prevent the occasional glitches or pops that other audio solutions can have by providing dedicated system bandwidth for critical audio functions.
Intel® G965, P965, Q965, Q963, 946GZ, and 946PL Express Chipsets

Intel® 925XE and 925X Express Chipsets

Gimp needs a glossy touch
Written by dragoninsane the 22 Jun 08 at 20:04. Category: Graphics. Related to: GIMP Image Editor. New
well so many of people suggested about gimp not use 3 windows.actually i and many i suppose(noobs) get scared when they see 3 windows all around desktop when they open Gimp(although there is a non official port called gimpshop but its outdated and not as good as gimp).
PS(photoshop) is setting web standards great piece of work but gimp too can compete with it.some needed changes:
*****single window.
****compatibility with photoshop filters .8bf filters, more support
****better documentation
**better icons and UI redesign(although i just saw feature planned for gimp next version 2.6) still deserves attention of developers.
**better support for pre defined key in photoshop also can be used in gimp
key combinations(keyboard shortcuts like ctrl+alt etc)
i am huge fan of photo editing software and web design somehow...usability in some software breaks barriers of commercial and free software.

Gaming Framework like Webkit will be answer to DirectX
Written by dragoninsane the 24 Jul 08 at 15:42. Category: Multimedia. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Games are not native to Linux, because there isn't any framework that exists in Linux.Linux gamers are casual or hobbyist i feel because they code in there favorite language[c++ etc]/there distro[eg fedora, opensuse].There real need of Linux in particular is to gather all developers interested, concerned, active. This is not a issue with just ubuntu or gnome or kde.every platform kde, gnome, saw fish etc, from every language coderc, objective c,c++,python, perl,qt etc ,from every language/country/distro should contribute.
To make gaming happen there should be a framework for gaming in Linux because a popular framework has solved browser and web based application problems in Linux example
web kit.Web Kit is an open source application framework that provides a foundation upon which to build a web browser.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Webkit

A framework is a basic conceptual structure used to solve or address complex issues. This very broad definition has allowed the term to be used as a buzzword, especially in a software context.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Framework
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_development
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_programming

Or SOFTWARE API like DirectX:
Microsoft DirectX is a collection of application programming interfaces (API's) for handling tasks related to multimedia, especially game programming and video, on Microsoft platforms.
from a decade directx x travelled from pc to xbox.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DirectX
************************
OpenGL (Open Graphics Library) is a standard specification defining a cross-language cross-platform API for writing applications that produce 2D and 3D computer graphics.

Neat copy/past
Written by dragoninsane the 28 Jul 08 at 08:30. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
When we move data(files) there should be neat feature :
when you move files with the same name, you should be prompted to either overwrite the files, rename the new files or cancel the operation.
Skip file(s) can also be great, also prompt when duplicate file is seen with same file name also show information like Size and date of creation/modification of both files,if possible.

Bring Tabs into Gimp
Written by dragoninsane the 16 Jul 08 at 13:56. Category: Graphics. Related to: GIMP Image Editor. New
Tabs allows us to quick navigation to files, features, docks, pallete, brushes etc, adding tabs to make it look better than Photoshop, here is a mockup
http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/GIMP+3?content=49951
Hope developers listen. If there are plenty of Windows docking
inside single window and treating all windows inside on big window is solution.also there should be a property in "Windows" menu like
windows>>reset docks to original location,reset pallete,reset
presets for brushes etc.

smart way to format usb and external hdd
Written by dragoninsane the 24 Jun 08 at 10:41. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
there is similar idea i like it too but what i want to see
integration.usb pen drives right click>>format
***opens menus to format pendrive with
**type of format>>fat etc
**type of format quick or deep
**if possible integration with clamav for virus checking

next its not just formatting usb, external hdd.but make it easier to format even mounted partition>>not through right click but through gui.this should be root accessible only.
***also add entries to gparted for usb and external hdd
i only see mounted partitions in gparted.presently there is no way i can format usb pen drives.
*****lock system drives not to partition, mounted drives.
like /var,/,/swap etc also do warn before formatting fat and
ntfs partitions about loss of data.

make the most of the OpenGL
Written by dragoninsane the 5 Jul 08 at 14:10. Category: Graphics. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opengl
Make use openGL to the fullest
*OpenGL (Open Graphics Library) is a standard specification defining a cross-language cross-platform API for writing applications that produce 2D and 3D computer graphics.

*-OpenGL can beat directx, although i dont know technicality
of both but still.Mac uses most of OpenGL in boot, graphics etc.Directx is used by microsoft to render graphics but here is comparision
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_OpenGL_and_Direct3D
and opengl can perform to the level of directx
There was recent talk of uses OpenGL face browser, although i don't know its fate.give a full support, develop opengl based applications.

Central Hcl for linux
Written by dragoninsane the 28 Jul 08 at 09:26. Category: Hardware support. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Bring Uniform hardware support and Central HCL(for at least top ten distro).
there is already Linux hcl project but i don't know how well all distro understand making and supporting central HCL(Hardware database).
opensuse has hcl, fedora too maintains, bring some peace in Linux hardware handling,if top 5 or ten Linux distro can merge hardware database people will be glad to use any Linux distro without discomfort.talk with other distro(like opensuse, fedora,Mandriva,Pclinuxos etc) to make it single hardware database and help each other at least in making hardware compatible in all Linux distro
Of course Server hardware is different from desktop and laptop.but concentrate on Desktop/laptop first and separate desktop database with laptop hcl like opensuse is doing.

Editing video “serious video editor”
Written by dragoninsane the 4 Sep 08 at 10:06. Category: Multimedia. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
importing video from digital camera,by default ubuntu doesnt have application that can handle video editing.Camera videos either from digital camera or through devices that can record videos like phones.actually ubuntu doesnt recognize phones “cell phones with camera and memory”,by memory i mean sc/mmd and so many other micro cards that store phones video's,audio, photo's.Xp has unusual detection rate it can detect almost all devices connected to it,I was given recently “china phone” which is touch screen with dual camera and memory, when connected to xp it detects as two drives “one for phone memory and other for phones sd memory” the phone when connected doesnt get recognized in ubuntu

Archive manager should support popular zip,rar formats, redesign interface.
Written by dragoninsane the 9 Jul 08 at 20:21. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Archive manager make it the best archive manager out there.
Problems already reported by other users like
1)Cant extract files if the files are split into seperate archives like Winrar does, search for part or locate other part on disk should it prompt.
2)Improve support for various popular formats not just tar,bz
to do:RAR,Zip,7z,ACE etc
3)Also should be able to open iso images(too hard winrar does This :(
4)Extract to other place rather than directory in which file is located
5)Report errors if some archive is damaged or unfinished file in archive, corrupt?
Most future proof idea would be to include search for virus before extraction(if some antivirus is installed in system).

make totem more feature rich, attractive, powerful, adva nce
Written by dragoninsane the 27 Jun 08 at 14:42. Category: Multimedia. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Totem features required:
*improve playing videos.the skip the scene or seek to new position doesnt work
not with arrow keys nor with mouse.
*improve the interface, nice looking better than wmp 11 and mac os x video players there are lot of good looking applications in windows like
Powerdvd,Divx,Gom player(although its open source),vlc, real player, quick time, jet audio, zoom player etc over 100 and more importantly they all play even flv files, mkv files.even winamp plays videos
*-functionality like vlc but with better interface
*-equalizer support and plugins
*-easy support to install plugins,themes,visualilzations
There are very few players natively available to linux esp gnome.
for kde :kaffine, now dragon player ,kmplayer etc
but for gnome
buggy totem,xine age old
vlc works on all platforms but its interface isnt that good.i applaud linux for
list of audio players like amarok, exaile, song bird, banshee etc
