Some ideas are apparently being flagged as duplicates when they are not. An example of this is idea #4 and idea #1399 which are NOT the same thing. There needs to be a facility in Brainstorm to "appeal" a duplicate label.

downloads should go to $HOME/Downloads. XDG_DOWNLOAD_DIR should be set to "$HOME/Downloads" instead of "$HOME/Desktop" in the file ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs.

This Downloads folder should be the default download location for firefox and this folder should be bookmarked in nautilus by xdg-user-dirs-gtk (like Music,Videos,Pictures and Documents).

RATIONALE :
* less cluttered desktop and/or homedir
* still easy to access your downloads

Save ratings to ID3
Written by dominik.mayer the 21 Mar 08 at 07:35. Category: Multimedia. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Neither Rhythmbox nor EasyTAG or any other linux program I found was able to save music ratings into ID3 tags. So you have to retag all songs if you change the file structure or the music player.

Single copy/paste buffer
Written by banta the 29 Feb 08 at 09:13. Category: Look and Feel. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
If you select a text witht he mouse it is one copy buffer (A), and if you select text and press ctrl+c it is another buffer (B).

For those of us who like select a text with the mouse and paste with shift + insert we are usually paste-ing from the B buffer.

It is possible to syncronize the buffers with klipper which is a KDE application but this should be on by default.

Password protected auto login
Written by dominik.mayer the 29 Feb 08 at 12:11. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Because the auto login function is not secure it's better not used on a mobile system. It would be great if there was the possibility to auto login and lock the screen. So all the settings are loaded but no one can access the system.

Applications should automatically unmount devices when needed
Written by d1s4st3r the 29 Mar 08 at 09:04. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Recently I needed to erase a DVD-RW to copy a new .ISO image on it. When I put the DVD into the writer, Ubuntu automatically mounted it on a certain mount point (this because that DVD wasn't blank but containing some data).
When I opened GnomeBaker and tried to erase it, GnomeBaker crashed because the resource (the DVD) was busy (or mounted).

Just as a CD burning program can't write on a mounted CD, other programs like partitioning ones can't work on mounted partitions.

So, I think some applications (like GnomeBaker) may have the possibility to automatically unmount devices without asking user interaction in case they need to operate on them.

Brainstorm: create "documentation" category
Written by steve196 the 24 Mar 08 at 15:52. Category: Brainstorm. Related to: Nothing/Others. Implemented
A seperate "help/documentation" category would be nice.
I think, the biggest remaining weaknesses of modern linux systems are in the area of documentation. Lots of good ideas needed there.

When I drag and drop files on another partition, ask COPY or MOVE.
Written by Cybercod the 15 Mar 08 at 05:20. Category: Look and Feel. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Sometimes I have symlinked folders on the desktop that reside on other partitions. Moving stuff to these folders always copies, and I have to delete the originals. I'd rather either they just move, like they would for a normal folder, or they ask me whether I wish to move or copy.

Center right-click context menu under mouse instead of two the right.
Written by deadowl the 24 Mar 08 at 04:23. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Users almost always move the mouse toward
the center of a menu before continuing. This is a strategy in menu browsing,
and eliminating the need for it could subconsciously make the interface feel
more usable. Why not center menus under the mouse rather than the traditional
method of drawing it right of the mouse? The one exception for this of
course, would be if centering a menu under a mouse would interfere with the
visibility of the menu.
