It's great that clicking on the clock brings up a calendar - but why Evolution's calendar?

The majority of people use a webmail service, so having a calendar that can sync with major web calendars (eg Google Calendar, Windows Live Calendar), that is easy to add and remove events to, to add alarms and notifications and to be able to do all of this without opening an email application would be fantastic, I think.

In Konqueror there is the right-click option saying "Copy To" / "Move To" - would be great to have that implemented in Nautilus.

I only now about this problem from Kile, but maybe there's more to it..

When I installed Kile (every time I update my System - I don't like the auto-update) in the past, I had to look for all the packages I need.

In reality this ends up to be a breath teaking, never ending process (even though I wrote down most of the kile-packages i need on a paper!) which in my eyes should be easier. I don't expect it to be one single file, but a wizard (for example), asking for languages and kile-package-groups or something alike, would be cool.

The current Ubuntu website is messy, unlike Ubuntu. I move the website be redesigned to be simple, and more usable for beginning users.

Remember, the first thing a user see's when he wants to download Ubuntu is Ubuntu.com

things to be done:
easy rotate picture without losing clarity.
easy one click print
easy resize even inside nautilus or on desktop.
easy crop option
compress photo/export to other formats like png etc.
zoom in/out easily/fit to window
slide show.
link picture viewer to other photo editing software like
gimp or default picture editing software.
change default photo folder.

Put everything anyone might possibly need in order to access the internet on the cd, especially wiki articles and important forum posts.

In Nautilus you can set a default icon size. But this setting applies also to the default icon size of the desktop. It would be great if both could be set independently of each other.

And yes, I know, that you can resize individual desktop icons, but if you have many of them this is a time-consuming task which you have to repeat for every new icon.

I Would like to have an easy way to transport/clone most of my settings including Packages, Bookmarks, Firefox settings, Evolution settings, Mediaplayer settings a.s.o into a small Archive: including General settings and User settings.

The archive should be small enough to be transported via a USB-Stick or mail, let us say max 250MB.
As it is for now, i will have to do this in several steps.

1. sudo dpkg --get-selections > Packages.lst
2. Export bookmarks
3. a.s.o...
And as many steps to complete the target computor.

Why not have a System Import/Export, the archive could be protected by crypto and a separate password.
By scheduling a daily backup of this file, i would also have someting like "Windows System Restore" but better.

A Simple GUI that lets you choose which items that should be included, would also be nice.

* "Services" is hard for me because there is no description about them.

* "Sessions" is also complicated i think. I can't understand some tabs as a new user.

* I want to add/remove programs to startup easy.

* my startup profiles must be transferred easily to my brothers' account.

Making Ubuntu respins is possible, but it sure isn't easy to find out how.

Include reconstructor (or some other official respin/remaster app) in repositories in order to make it easy for people to customize their own Ubuntu disks enabling users to have an Ubuntu LiveCD set up with the apps and tools that they like.

While it will enable people to make more offshoots of Ubuntu, it will also allow users to create their own private distro with things set up how they like.

It would also enable people to create their own disks with ndiswrapper and their specific WiFi card drivers included on the disk for easy Live session connectivity.

For inspiration, look to the MkDistro tool from Dreamlinux as well as the nLite tool for Windows. PuppyLinux also has a remastering process that makes it very easy for people to customize their own version of Puppy.

The tool need not be installed/available by default. Just include it in the repositories and be sure to document it well.

To the "There are too many distros" crowd: There are already 500+ distros and climbing... this isn't really a problem, and you're not going to change it. This is just the definition of choice. Celebrate diversity!!

I mainly see this with Eclipse, but it also happens with OpenOffice. What happens is this: I'm in workspace A looking at my email. I decide to start Eclipse in workspace B. The Eclipse splash screen appears and I flip back to workspace A again, because eclipse takes a while to start. After a while the eclipse main window comes up on top of my email program, in workspace A. Then I have to drag it over to workspace B, where I wanted it to appear. I would prefer that it come up in the workspade where I started it.

OpenOffice has a similar result, but GIMP will actually pull you over to workspace B when it comes up. That's kind of cool, but behavior is inconsistent between GIMP and OpenOffice or Eclipse.

Several wiki articles allude to the fact that there is/was an art.ubuntu.com, and that you can submit art to it. o:

a quick google search tells me it was attacked and is planned for relaunch soon. That was said in November. :/

Could we please get this back up?!

Standard is this terrible BEEP noise when the computer failures. Why are not activated from the beginning pleasant system sounds? There is the possibility to change the system sounds manually in the preferences. The implemented sounds are a little bit boring and hear all the same.


Like the Borealis sound theme or something else.

Right clicking the trash icon (or some other intuitive way) should allow you to "restore last deleted item." This way you don't have to open the trash, locate the thing you accidentally sent there, and then restore it by hand.

Atleast, in code, prepare for and add full subpixelprecision code for a much improved experience.

As title says, Update the Firefox default page for Ubuntu. Perhaps, change it up between releases. Either way, I know I am sick of the current firefox default page on ubuntu.

One of the most annoying stuff in Rhythmbox: when you close the window, it quits the application. I just wanted to get rid of the window on the desktop, that's all.

I know some person like this behavior. So a solution would be to add a checkbox to enable/disable the "hide on close" in the preferences.

Edit> IMO, once an application is in the systray, "close" differs from "quit" (i.e. you "close" the window, but you don't "quit" the program).

This means you do not lose any time, since Ubuntu capture the time it takes the user to enter his [user and] password.

When it comes time for a install and you have to do partitioning, it needs to be a lot easier. GRUB also has to go. There is just way to many risk when using it. A Ubuntu developed solution that is bug free would be great.
